W Atlanta - Buckhead
Ranked #60 of 173 Hotels in Atlanta
Reviewed 13 July 2014

I was in Atlanta for business and enjoyed the W Buckhead. The room was comfortable. The bed had 2 choices of pillow - one firm and one soft. I wish all hotels did this. The bathroom was very small. The bath products were Bliss. There is not a coffee maker in the room, but there is free coffee in the lobby. Buckhead is a wonderful area with great shopping. The W is within walking distance to Lenox Mall. Very close to Phipps Mall. Many restaurants to choose from within walking distance. No complaints overall.

whitney s - Thanks for the stellar review! Every guest is invited to join us each morning downstairs at our W Café, where you can indulge in complimentary coffee and tea and grab some grub on your way out. If you have some time, be sure to dine at Cook Hall, you won't be disappointed. We'll see you soon!

Stay cool,

A solid choice in Atlanta's financial district. There's a train station near by but MARTA's coverage is a bit limited, a car/taxi is necessary for anything more than a single night stay (anywhere in Atlanta). You'll find world class shopping around the corner, Lenox mall: normal-high end (Macy's - Neiman Marcus), Phipps: high end (Gucci, Tiffany's...). Several good to great restaurants in walking distance as well.

The property is well appointed, common spaces and guest rooms alike; designed by Thom Filicia. Room size was generous however I did NOT like the toilet arrangement. An opaque sliding glass door is all that separates the toilet closet from the room, the lighting actually silhouettes ones activities onto the door for the room's occupants to see! I recommend another floor plan for couples.

Wonderful king bed and great Bliss bath amenities, standard W features. Great staff, very friendly and eager to help.

Pets are welcome but I've found other Starwood properties that are much more pet-friendly.

Over all: a trendy and solid place to stay.

The hotel was nice and the staff very accommodating and pleasant. The rooms were clean and spacious. The only critique I have of the hotel is that they were not every helpful when it came to obtaining a shuttle at the end of a conference - they were rude when asked about setting up a shuttle ahead of time. We were told we had to call when we needed to be picked up. It then took them over 45 minutes to show up.

ElissaBflo - We're saddened to hear about the encounter you described in your attempt to arrange shuttle transportation. This should've a been a seamless process, as we readily have a line of taxis and transportation options available to assist our guests at a drop of a dime. We're truly sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you and look forward to having you visit again soon for a truly dynamic W experience from start to finish.

I stayed at this hotel in Atlanta while on a business trip. The rooms were slightly smaller than I expected them to be, but were nice and comfortable. The hotel has a trendy feel about it. Staff members were friendly.

Great, fun property with lots to do for the young hip crowd with Starwood status. However, be warned, this is a party hotel. The pool will be filled mainly with an eclectic mix of folks drinking fancy poolside cocktails while enjoying boystrous conversation. The elevators can get backed up, as there are only 2 of them for a larger hotel, and there is usually a great crowd in the lobby. It made for an excellent fun night out on the town environment for my fiance' and I.

Upon arrival, the valet staff was warm and responsive. The gentleman who checked us in was welcoming and nice but did not mention any of the SPG Platinum benefits that come with a typical stay; he didn't offer breakfast coupons, late check out, or a room upgrade. Not a big deal. He told me there were no room upgrades available except for possibly putting us on a higher floor. The other Welcome Agent told the guests checking in next to us that the hotel was not near capacity. I don't really like to ask for an upgrade, but I will if nothing is mentioned of it at check in. I understand that upgrades are not guaranteed. SPG Platinum benefits listed are "best available room at check in, including standard suites." The room was nice enough. Carpets dirty in the hallway and pool closes very early. Whiskey Blue staff was great and a very fun atmosphere there. The house shuttle to the mall was very nice with a very hospitable driver. The beds are quite comfortable and shower nice. Only 1 complimentary bottle of water in the room. Overall a nice place. The lady at check out was very kind.

Room Tip: Lobby, Club, Shuttle, and Pool are all quite nice. Use them.

We were really looking forward to our stay at the W for the Peachtree Road Race. Unfortunately, nothing lived up to our expectations. At check in the guy checking us in just acted like he was too good for us and was very unhelpful. He told us about an event they were having that you had to buy tickets for and I asked what time it started and ended and he just kept saying you have to buy a ticket to get in...look, I realize that, I heard that, but what time does the event start and end? Could never get an answer. He couldn't even give my wife and I each a key to our room, only one key (asked for 2 but he said he couldn't get 2 keys to work for the room....really?)

The 'free wi-fi' wasn't free for us. To be fair, I am not going to blame the W for that as we booked through an agency for the race and that could be what they negotiated.

The room was not very great. The bathroom is in the room with no privacy. If you close the sliding doors to the toilet/shower area you can hope for some privacy (mind you the sink is still in the main part of the room) however the sliding doors are so awful that you can see right through the large gaps. Fine for a couple but if sharing a room with someone for work it would be extremely uncomfortable.

Prices are nuts for everything. Just because you charge a lot of money doesn't mean that it is high quality! We ordered 2 drinks and a side of mac and cheese to our room.....$47

Another evening we got back around midnight and went to the bar to get a drink to take to the room. The bartended just ignored us so finally we asked if they were open and he said no that he was closed. Ok that is fine (although closing at midnight on a Saturday night seems early but whatever) so I asked if there was anywhere else to get a drink and the best answer he could come up with was "I don't know". Sorry bud, but I think you do know and you were just being lazy. It is fine you were closed but it would be easy to point someone in the right direction as I wasn't looking for anything crazy.

For valet they said we can call ahead to get our car so when we come down it will be ready. No problem so we do that before we check out and there is close to 20 minutes that go by before we get down to the lobby. Still no car and once we get out there they act like we never called and talk to them and then go get our car. What is the point in calling ahead?

The entire place is trying to be very contemporary....fine....however there is no need for all of the 'better than you' attitude that was on display the entire time we were there.

One last thing, the curtains in the room aren't even black out curtains so don't expect it to be dark in your room. As soon as the sun starts to pop up, you will know about it!
