“Clueless hostess and ineffective GM ruined our experience”
Reviewed 28 December 2013

The food LOOKED good, but since we never got to eat any even after spending close to two hours there, I wouldn't know how it tasted. This place is one that you hear buzz about, but I fail to see why. It's small and noisy (especially in the back room), but you would think that a pasta restaurant would be able to turn tables and accommodate the throngs who come to eat there. That was NOT our experience. We had reservations at 9, but arrived early in hopes of being sat early, or at least hanging out at the cool bar that's been there since it was Sauced. We should have taken it as a bad sign when we noticed the hostess had my friend's phone number listed under a different name! Alas, there were no tables yet and no room at the bar, so we were directed to a little seating area in the back room where a couple was dining. We asked if they minded that we sat there and they were very accommodating. After 10 minutes pass and we order drinks, the hostess apologizes and tells us that we are not actually allowed to sit there out of courtesy for the couple. Huh? So, we get up and head straight to the GM who is effusive and insists that she's wrong and to please continue sitting there. And so we did, until 9:40 (40 minutes AFTER our reservation, mind you). Our server was blissfully unaware that we've been waiting to eat since our arrival at 8:20 (in a well-run restaurant, both the hostess AND the GM would have communicated that to the server). We were already thinking of leaving, but by 10:15 our appetizers still had not arrived at the table, so we called Rathbun's (around the corner) and asked them to save us a table. They were happy to oblige, so we left after paying for one round of drinks (the GM was thoughtful enough to buy the first round), and had a FABULOUS meal at Rathbun's, which I highly recommend. If you do try BoccaLupo, be forewarned that you might have to wait despite having reservations (made weeks in advance) and then again, you still might not eat at all. Poorly run, will not return.

This place has innovative Italian dishes. The Octopus & mortadella spiedino was fantastic. I'd recommend this intimate relaxed restaurant to anyone.

“Interesting Menu, Good Beer Selection, Stingy Dessert Portions”
Reviewed 11 November 2013

After a way too long menu chat from our server, we ordered the spicy Hamachi crudo ($13), which was very good. Our entrees were also tasty including the black spaghetti with sausage ($ 19)and the 20 yolk tagliatelle ($19). The desserts were very skimpy portions for the price including the very tine serving of panna cotta ($7) and pound cake ($8). Good beer selection but none on tap. The menu has interesting choices and our overall dining experience was good. Limited parking behind the restaurant or find a spot on the street.
