“Amazing Stay - Will Be Back”
Reviewed 21 July 2011

The journey from Marbella was very pleasant and straight forward, directions from the website are spot on. We were greeted by Patricia the co-owner, who from the off, was very friendly and welcoming.

The location is amazing, very calming and peaceful, a great escape from the bustle of Granada, although only a 20 minute taxi drive away.

Our room was beautifully appointed with all your requirements and stunning views of the Sierra Nevada. We stayed for 2 nights and had Dinner at the hotel on both nights, as the standard of food is so good and well worth the 35 euros.

I wished we had stayed an extra night to explore Albacin in Granada, we now have an excuse to return. Monachil is a friendly local village with many options for Lunch if staying around the hotel for the day.

All the staff are very welcoming and friendly, the hotel has a real family feel. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I would love to live in such a beautiful spot.

Room Tip: We stayed in rooms 11 & 12, which are very modern with fabulous views

I read the reviews before booking the hotel, and the drive uphill was not nearly as scarry as I expected. I've driven a lot in Europe so the drive up and down didn't faze us. We also had no problem finding the hotel thanks to the instructions they emailed us.

Other than that I can only agree with the positive reviews. The rooms were nicely furnished and everything was spotless. They provide way more amenities (and of a better quality) than other hotels. We were in a five star beach hotel after this and it wasn't as nicely equipped. The only problem: the shower/tub combo (which in itself was awesome) was separated from the bedroom by a glass wall. No privacy! This may be ok for couples but probably not cool when traveling with teen kids or friends. We took turns lounging outside while the other person showered. But still... maybe a curtain would be in order?

The best part of our stay was dinner. The food was superb and definitely worth 35 Euros. We got a better value for out money than most other restaurant, and unlike elsewhere the ingredients were fresh from local farmers. The staff are very friendly and you feel like you're invited over for dinner with friends. The view and ambiance are very iniviting and we felt well taken care of.

We also enjoyed the pool and the surrounding area. From the hotel we hiked along a mountain stream into a canyon gorge, which is an attraction in itself. Since Monachil is in the mountain foothills, it's also not as hot and humid as Granada, even though they're only a 20 minute drive apart. All in all a great stay!

The last km uphill is not for the faint-hearted - but what would you expect from a hideaway hotel in the Sierra Nevada, just out of Monachil? But its well worth the effort: a former farmhouse nicely made into a cosy, up-style hotel with apparently a lot of heart put into it, a terrace with an overwhelming view at 1500+ peaks, great food and a very friendly crew. Good departure point for hiking or roundtrips through the Sierra. Clear recommendation!

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights, at the end of the 2nd part of our honeymoon.

After a long drive from Seville, we eventually navigated up the long and winding drive to be greeted by Manuel, who gave us a tour of his amazing property. We were then shown to our room...one of the newer rooms, which was just lovely, with total privacy and breathtaking views!

If you're after peace and quiet, this is the place. Only 30 mins drive from central Granada, you have the best of both worlds. We took a 3hr hike on one of the nearby trails one day, which was just awesome - waterfalls, suspension bridges and loads of cracking scenery.

The hotel itself - spotlessly clean, friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast is included and a real treat. You have the choice of dining at the hotel for dinner, though the menu is set and there is no choice. At €35pp not including drinks, it is a bit expensive, but the food is wonderful and the view to accompany dinner itself is just exquisite.

There's a lovely pool down on the lawn, with comfortable loungers, pool towels and again, a stunning view to enjoy. The only slight downside, which has absolutely nothing to do with the hotel, are the massive horse flies, which give you some nasty bites if they like you. I had no bites at all, but my husband was eaten alive and they're big, dirty flies so the bites blistered horribly. Part and parcel of being in the country, but something to be aware of if you're prone to getting bitten.

We'd definitely love to return here, though for those not used to driving on narrow roads with steep gradients, it can take a little getting used to. And you definitely do need a car to visit this hotel.

Thank you for a lovely few days of seclusion to enjoy your wonderful mountains!
Friendly service, amazing food, a great selection of food and drink across 3 restaurants, a pristine, safe beach with lapping waters. Despite being all inclusive, with lovely wines, champagne and cocktails to die for, there was no one abusing this - party go-ers probably best go elsewhere. This place is quietly confident in what it has to offer. It's understated, elegant, yet really friendly and down to earth, too, with a management team who are approachable, available and genuinely have an interest in making their guests' stay a happy one.

Free watersports and nice little coves to go off exploring in kayaks, or just laze on the beach, where people leave you alone and you have utter privacy. That is, unless you are told of a leatherback turtle laying her eggs at midnight, as happened 50 m from our apartment one evening. Now THAT is priceless...

Was it expensive? Well, yes, it was. Was it worth it? Absolutely, definitely! We pushed the boat out for our honeymoon and so glad we did...our carbon footprint combined is probably horrendous, yet I have to say that in all the places I've ever been in the world, from the S Pacific / Aus and NZ, through to deluxe Europe and N America, Galley Bay really topped the lot.

Isn't that what you want to be able to say about your honeymoon?!

To the GM Paulo and his team there - many, many thanks for giving us such great memories to carry with us forever. And thank you also for the ride back to reception at the end of our stay in your buggy! To have the GM do this and to have the whole team really bending over backwards to make your stay a memorable one....well, this tells you a bit about the kind of place it is.

Room Tip: Rooms 11 and 12 are tremendous - super modern!

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful place for 2 nights. We booked here to avoid having to drive into Granada, it was a great choice, the view across the Sierra Nevada was stunning and it was so peaceful. We had a first floor room with a big balcony looking out over the mountains, truly breathtaking. The room had great attention to detail with lovely furnishings and decoration, bathroom was excellent.
We had dinner here both nights and the food was really delicious. Breakfast was very generous, some self served some served to us, very good.
The drive to the hotel is along a very narrow road so we did not want to venture out at night, but there was no reason to.
I would highly recommend this place not only for a good base to explore National Park around the Sierra Nevada but also for a relaxing holiday or to visit Granada and the Alhambra.
There was a large swimming pool but we did not swim as it was not warm enough.
It only took about 20-25 minutes to drive to Alhambra which was our reason for coming here, well worth a visit, amazing place.

Room Tip: Book a first floor room for great views.

We recently stayed at this delightful hotel. It is situated about 8km out of Granada in the Sierra Nevada national park. You need the directions given by the hotel as the sat nav will get you to Monachil but no further. The directions were good and we managed to get to the hotel, though the road is only one car width and a little worrying in places but well worth making the trip. There is free parking at the hotel.

Jose Manual greeted us on arrival and gave us a tour of the hotel and its history. The hotel is decorated stylishly. Our room was number 7 and we were on the first floor with an outside balcony overlooking the pool which fantastic views of the mountains. The room was decorated tastefully and felt like a home. The shower over the bath was good and they provide most of the toiletries that you need. They are both very clean and the bed was comfortable. They even have a kettle for as Jose put it 'the English'.

The pool is a nice extra but is not heated so a little cold in early June. We had two days of rain which apparently is unusual but as you are so close to the mountains not surprising.

There are walks which you can do from the hotel or drive a little way and walk from there. The hotel provide games such as solitaire, cards, table football in the lounge.

We had breakfast on the terrace which was lovely and buffet style. We also had a tray the night before if we were leaving early for the day. We chose to eat the evening meal at the hotel on 3 out of our 4 night stays. Patricia does the cooking and provides a 5 course meal for 35 euros per person (wine was extra at about 17 euros per bottle). The normal routine is a tapas course of grilled bread with garlic, olive oil, tomato and some sort of sausage. Then a soup course followed by a vegetarian course. The main courses were: sea bass cooked in salt, roast beef and whole poussin chickens. This is followed by a small dessert. The food was lovely and it provided the opportunity to chat with the other guests over coffee in the lounge area. It made a nice change to not have a choice in what was for dinner so it was always a surprise.

We spent one of our days in Granada and chose to book a taxi so that we did not have to worry about parking and could have a drink or two. The taxi cost about 16 euros one way and coming back taxis were easy to get in the town centre, though you have to ask to go to Monachil old town and then direct the driver from there. It takes about 25 minutes to drive to the Alhambra.

We would definitely go back to the hotel and would recommend it to people who want something a little more individual, relaxed and quiet out of the city.

This is such a beautiful hotel. ALL of the staff (and dog) are very welcoming and it very much feels like it is yours for the time you stay. The attention to detail is quite brilliant and fixtures and fittings very classy indeed.

We stayed in the room with a balcony overlooking the pool. It was superb.

We love our food, and the only criticism would be of the evening meal. It was ok and some of it was cold when it should have been hot. In saying that, we really do expect great food and in the whole grand scheme of things, it mattered very little and didn't taint our stay.

It's a little hard to find, but well worth the perserverance and the odd argument with the sat nav/girlfriend (!) as when you get there all your stress simply disappears into the Andalucian air.

Will definitely go back at some stage, can't praise it enough.

Ps. if the owner see this - sorry it has taken us so long to do this!!
