“SUBLIME”
Reviewed 1 March 2013

Words cannot express what a wonderful experience this hotel is. My husband booked us, and our two dogs, in for one night whilst we travelled north. Luckily, it snowed during the night. The views from the hotel are beautiful but, with the sun shining on the snow, they were breathtaking. The snow was exceptionally heavy, and for a while we were all snowed in. Patricia (the owner) and Maria (the receptionist) kept bringing round coffee, tea and juices, along with toasted sandwiches, for which, when we eventually left, we were not charged for. By late afternoon the road was cleared and the guests who were leaving anyway could get out. We decided to stay another night, and I am so very glad we did. We have never stayed anywhere before that made us feel so very comfortable, relaxed and warm. By warm, I mean warm inside, in your stomach, in your heart.

Our room was delightful, warm and cosy and beautifully decorated. Not only was there tea and coffee facilities but also complimentary juices, water, biscuits and chocolates.

Dinner, we ate on two nights, was a lovely, gourmet style, five course meal, beautifully cooked and presented. Well worth the 35 euros each.

Breakfast was amazing. Such an array of fresh fruits, breads, hams, cheeses, yoghurts, crossaints and even smoked salmon. Freshly squeezed orange juice and great coffee.

The guest lounge, where we spent many a happy hour, was homely and comfortable, with a huge log fire.

My husband and I go everywhere with our tech, iPads, iPhone, Samsung and Blackberry. Would we have liked wifi in our room, yes. But, on reflection, that is where we would have stayed and we would have missed out on the very cosy lounge, where wifi is available anyway.

The owners; Manuel and Patricia personally saw us off as if they had been so pleased we had stayed and would miss us. An act, who knows. But it worked. We left we sadness and do so hope we go back there again.

It's been several years now since I first came across La Almuñia del Valle, a small boutique hotel that's hidden away in a terraced valley just a quarter of an hour from Granada.
It's hard to find fault with this place. The owners make a huge effort with all their guests, the views out across the valley are inspirational and the food is as good as in the bst of Granada's many restaurants. Dining here al fresco is about as good as it gets.
Couple this to superbly crafted rooms, most of which have their own private terraces, and a pretty garden sculpted round a mountain-facing pool, and you begin to get the measure of one of the region's most lovely small hotels.

Room Tip: The two newly added rooms on the top terrace are simply stunning.

Just returned from four nights at the La Almunia del Valle. It's very difficult to say anything different to anything that has been written before especially about the the hosts and the welcome that they always gave to you. We stayed in room 7 which had its own balcony and a brilliant bath/ shower in the bathroom. Even though the weather was cool but bright we still managed to enjoy a cup of tea sitting out looking over the mountains - so very peaceful and relaxing. We ate in for three nights having settled into the routine of having a late afternoon nap then enjoying a very short walk over to the lounge complete with log fire for a drink before a great meal. After dinner we settled into the comfy sofas where we had coffee and chatted to the other guests - perfect. We both felt so relaxed at the end of our stay and didn't want to return home!

Whilst we were there we visited The Alhambra, by day and by night. We ordered the tickets online and picked them up from the machines at the entrance - it was very easy (just note that there are separate machines for night time, garden and general tickets!) We were slightly disappointed with the night time visit as we thought the water features were going to be light providing us with the opportunity to take wonderful photographs. But it is definitely worth a visit. We also did the gorge walk which was great especially crossing the Indiana style bridges and crawling along on hands and feet at some points - not to be missed though.

There was snow on top of the mountains which looked beautiful so we thought we'd go and find it. However when we reached the high mountains we encountered thick fog!! It was a great shame as it apparently cleared later on during the day.

The hotel definitely made our trip - the journey to The Albrambra carpark was straight forward and only took about 15-20 mins; Infact we parked there when we went into Granada and just walked down the hill. Do make sure you climb the Mirador de San Nicolas as you get a fantastic view over to the Alhambra.

We would thoroughly recommend this hotel. The setting is beautiful - high up in in a stunning valley in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada yet only a 10 minute drive from granada. The room was very modern and comfortable (with a cool funky edge) but the thing that really sets this hotel apart is the welcome and the personal service from the owners Manuel & Patricia. They looked after us wonderfully. We would also recommend the food - fantastic 5 course meals in the hotel cooked by patricia herself. In terms of activities, one can hike from the door - the valley is beautiful and the walk we did followed the river gorge across Indiana jones style bridges and then into a magnificent concealed valley via a tunnel hewn by the river itself. The alpajurras proper are just 30 minutes away with the coast a further 30 minutes beyond that.

If you are looking for a relaxing break in the mountains with fantastic hospitality this is the place for you.

If your looking for a get away from it all break then this is the place for you. Stunning views across the valley to enjoy with a bottle of wine watching the sun go down. Rooms very well equipped and tastefully decorated. Staff were very welcoming and friendly.
Only things i would mark it down on was the value for money of the rooms,a bit expensive i feel for what it is.
Also the sandard of the food isn't that good. For 35euros for food alone i would expect better quality.

We stayed at this retreat for 3 nights ending 3 October 2012. All the 5* reviews are correct, we had a very relaxing time in this beautiful rustic hotel perched high on a mountain. Totally peaceful yet only 10 minutes from central Granada. Rooms are very comfortable and more than adequate. The owners are hands on and very professional. Go on try it and leave the city hotels alone, you won't regret it.

Room Tip: Room 11 or 12; 12 in preference.

This is a wonderful hotel and we had a perfect break. The welcome we received was lovely. The hotel is beautiful and peaceful in a wonderful location with the most stunning view of the mountains. It was also fantastic value for money. The food is excellent for both breakfast and dinner. Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: We had both a simple room and a superior room - go for the latter if you can - it's worth it.
