“surprising modern interieur, relaxing touch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2009

It is 20 minute drive from Grenada to la almunia. The hotel is located outside a small village on a preferred hillside place with spectacular view over the valley. The town itself has some small and nice looking restaurants for those who prefer to go out for dinner - Grenada is too far away for dinner. We had dinner twice at the hotel which was a fixed menu, simple but good.
We were lucky to get one of the two new rooms which are located top of the hotel with a huge terrasse with sun loungers, table and beautiful view. It is on the same level as the restaurant terrasse. The room is very modern and tastefully decorated with big floor to ceiling windows and a good size. The other rooms are at the lower level, also good views and most of them with a terrasse. Our terrasse had no shade- too hot to stay on the terrasse during daytime. The pool has a reasonable size, some sunloungers, shade from the trees and with a nice view over the valley. The public areas are surprisingly modern as you would not expect first when arriving at this remote place in the valley. Overall atmosphere is very relaxed, good and friendly service. During lunchtime, there is no service but you can order a picnic basket which we did. This was a bit a disappointing experience considering the food.

Overall a remote, calm, relaxing place with a touch of luxury in a familiar atmosphere. It is a good option for a day trip to Grenada, but not a place to stay when you want to go out for dinner to the town of Grenada.

Before we arrived at La Almunia del Valle we were concerned that we would be too far from Granada, but all of our concerns were set aside during our stay. The centre of Granada, and the Alhambra palace, is less than half an hour away, and Los Alpujarras and the Sierra Nevada are similarly close. The service that we received at the hotel was always courteous and professional, yet also friendly, and the rooms, grounds and food were all of the highest standards.

You do need a car to stay here, and it's a healthy uphill kilometre walk from Monachil itself, but it's the ideal place to stay for a visit to Granada - we enjoyed each and every one of our 4 nights here, and it would be an excellent destination for a weekend trip to the area.

This little oasis in the Sierras way exceeding any expectation we had. The view from our terrace was spectacular (Room #7) The owners and staff were friendly and more than helpful (Maria speaks excellent English); the dinner and breakfast were superb; the setting incredible, all appointments and amenities just simply terrific; beautiful pool and surrounding area. Very easy to drive into Granada (15 minutes to Alhambra). If you get to the Alhambra fairly early in the morning (it opens at 8:30 this time of year) you can drive staight to the lot close to the entrance (Maria will provide you with a
map). Leave your car there for the day and take buses or taxis around town (very easy). This a much lovelier and more reasonably priced option than staying in Granada. We wish we had stayed more than 2 nights. They serve dinner every night but Sunday and will pack a picnic lunch for you. Loved this place!

My wife, children and I have been traveling throughout Europe since 2004, relying heavily at times on Trip Advisor. We have never contributed our own views, so I decided that it is about time we do so. Looking back now on our trip to Spain last August, I feel compelled to write about this wonderful place to offset the two reviews that were not positive. I told our hostess that I would write about La Almunia on Trip Advisor when we returned to Philly, so I'm keeping my promise. (I hope Patricia reads this and remembers us, and later I'll try to add some photos of our sons enjoying a game of chess on the terrace in the evening).

We always stay in B&Bs for the cultural advantages, and La Alumnia did not disappoint. The narrow winding road up the hill to the inn created a sense of mystery (we had a navigation system so we had no problems with directions). When we turned the last corner and saw La Almunia, we knew we would enjoy our stay. The setting in the mountains near Granada is truly spectacular, and everything that followed was in keeping with the setting. The rooms, the common areas, the terrace, the pool, the breakfast, and our gracious hosts were all outstanding.

Patricia took the time to answer all of our many questions about her interesting family, La Almunia, and Granada. We felt as though we were long lost cousins arriving for a visit. Our three teenage children, all of whom were impressed with Granada, nonetheless were anxious to return to the inn after a long day of touring. Moreover, Patricia was not offended whatsoever when we told her we would like to go into town for dinner, and she gave us an excellent recommendation. Our hostess was as gracious and personable as she could be. She explained for us her efforts to accommodate the travelers from Seville who arrived with two extra people and have complained about how they were received. Needless to say, the travelers put Patricia on the spot, and I have to believe that she did everything she could to be of help to them.

My German is rusty, but it appears that the travelers from Austria were somehow complaining about Patricia's dogs, which we found to be very pleasant creatures (but we're dog lovers anyway).

Looking at the other reviews, I now wish we had taken the time to walk the nearby hills, and I wish we could have stayed longer.

Our memories of Patricia and La Almunia stand out brightly when we think back about our wonderful visit to Spain.

When you feel like relaxing, book this hotel. The location is far away from stress and chaos. The garden with pool offers a beautiful view to the mountains of the Sierra Nevada. The two hosts are very friendly and helpful. You really feel a guest in their house but with the comfort you would find in a luxery hotel. If you have an allergy for cats or dogs, do not go their. When you think about going into Granada in the night, I would not suggest to go their either. The road to the hotel is not created for two way direction and I can immagine that you would not feel comfortable driving on this road when it is dark and unfamiliair.

Stayed 3 nights with wife and son (6) in order to do Granada and surrounds. It's a small place and more of a country house type atmosphere. We really liked it. The food was very good and the owners are really good fun. The staff were all great.

We had a small-ish room with no terrace/balcony due to late booking but there seemed to be some really nice rooms available.

Pool was small but perfectly OK. You can go on walks from the hotel or drive to Granada, Sierra Nevada easily.
