“Hard to rate: very good indeed in parts, some aspects less so”
Reviewed 25 May 2014

Smart and chic, perhaps more likely to be in an urban, than a rural location, this bar / restaurant is a very pleasant place to be in.
The service, though, seemed a little strange for a bar, being rather formal; mannered, even.
Some of the food we had was great - the beef cheeks with onions was a real treat, while other dishes seemed to be rather more about the smears and whirls of the presentation than the taste, which I think is always a mistake. I found the prawn risotto with strawberries quite unpleasant, tasting predominantly of evaporated milk.
So - worth a visit, given the right choices from the menu.

“Top bar, top staff, top food, top time!”
Reviewed 26 April 2014 via mobile

We stayed in the area for 3 or 4 days, fell upon this place quite by accident but at the start so we were able to visit them more than once. The guy who runs the place (sorry I didn't ask his name!), is so bloody nice, very welcoming, very knowledgeable, nothing is too much for him; and that 'culture' runs throughout the team. We were mainly looked after by Victor, a charming, attentive guy. The bar is chilled, serving a good range of beers, wines and so many Gin cocktails that you run out of space for them; delicious! We only had snacks, created to a high standard by a chef who obviously cares about making people happy. My wife, 2 dogs and I spent good times at The Botanic and would very highly recommend them to you. To the team at The Bitanic, we wish you good fortune!

“Just a bit different”
Reviewed 8 April 2014 via mobile

Being with a botanical study group this bar just had to be explored. It had just opened, but we were welcomed in with great enthusiasm. The bar had a wonderful terrace and a menu was presented that contained great surprises. The others in the party had to leave promptly, but the food they had ordered was boxed up for later. I enjoyed the most amazing aubergine dish. Will definitely be back to try some more of the menu.

“Alpajarras treat”
Reviewed 27 March 2014

We stayed for a week walking in and around Capileira and didn't discover the botanic Bar until our last day. Our visit was on a Sunday evening when the village had emptied out after a busy weekend. Although we enjoyed the more traditional local dishes at other restaurants during our visit to the the area this meal was the highlight of our stay. The food was highly original and superbly served and the young chef and his wife and other staff were very welcoming.

Highly recommended. Very talented and enthusiastic young people bringing something different to a traditional village.

“amazing unexpected gem of a find in the deserted alpajurras mountains”
Reviewed 23 March 2014 via mobile

My family stumbled upon this place unexpectedly while exploring the 3 mountain villages of the Alpajurras. What a find! We sat for hours on the lovely deck which has an amazing view of the mountains in all directions and were treated to the most delicious and original food in all of southern Spain! The chef could be working in a Michelin star restaurant in a big city. Each dish was wonderfully presented, fresh, original, and delicious! And the staff couldn't be friendlier. For anyone who is feeling car sick on their way up to Capileira, this restaurant is worth driving the extra miles to get to. In fact, I'd recommend driving all the way from Granada in order to dine at this gem of a restaurant. This husband-wife team made us an unforgettable meal which pleased all of our family members, and we are not easily satisfied. They also accommodate gluten free and vegetarian diners. An interesting, creative twist on traditional Spanish/Andalucian food with only the freshest ingredients!
