“Rural, basic but worthwhile”
Reviewed 12 August 2013

If you want to be away from crowds and tourists - the Alpujarras area of the Spanish Sierra Nevada is ideal. Stunning scenery, great walking, pretty villages and near the highest mountain in Spain - climeable in a long day. The hotel itself had basic but adequate rooms some with great views across the valley. The bar was used by locals and fun. The restaurant was again basic but reflected the cuisine of the area. If you are on a walking holiday you're not looking for luxury and this hotel isn't. But it is friendly, well run and very adequate within a quaint village in a beautiful area. A nice pool was a touch of class and welcome after a long days walk. The correct rating would be GOOD between Average and Very Good!!

Room Tip: The hotel rooms are on either side of the street - get ones in the main building with the bar and re...

As in all of Capileira, you can feel the heart and soul of the owners through the way they approach their business - driven with pride, passion, and sense of quality.
We stayed 2 nights here, June 28-30.
This hostal is one of the largest in the small city of Capileira. We were greeted by the owners, some nice older folks who also are in charge of the Meson (bar/restaurant) and personally showed to our room. With pride, the lady opened our door, drew back the blinds, and showed us the marvelous view of the valley below. Not only is the Meson Poqueira easy to find (right when you get into town) it has great views! Definitely try to get a room with a mountain view.
Know that when you're going to Capileira, you're staying in more of a rural area, so expect a lodge-like feel here. The area is not seeping in modernism, so enjoy the country atmosphere. The room was clean with a large bathroom, and beds were comfortable and crisply made. Also, the pool and deck were big, and the breakfast was fresh. Great pride was taken in making sure public areas were well-maintained. The owners knew where to point us for information about hiking (right next door in the town's visitors center). The value was also phenomenal! We've almost paid more for some campsites in the US than for our cozy, accommodating, clean stay here.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a mountain view!

Capileira is nice place for discovering the Alpujarra and this hostel is a good accommodation option for this task. Comfortable and affordable, simple, easy to find and well located; You´ll find there a familiar and helpful treat. You can have dinner at the restaurant though do not try to ask for gorgeous dishes just keep on the homemade path (ham, potaje, soups…). Breakfast at the bar is quite simple but enough.

I've stayed here twice and love this rustic little hotel. It's right in the center of Capileira, next to the bus stop and couldn't be easier to find. The rooms are simple but comfortable and some of them have excellent views of the mountains and I think all of them have a balcony. There is a bar/restaurant attached that serves typical Spanish food which is quite tasty for a good price. Wifi is available in the common room and bar but not in the rooms. Also, the soft spoken and nearly identical twin brother owners are wonderful and so sweet! I would recommend this hotel to those who are looking for a comfortable and quiet place to stay while exploring the mountains.

I too stayed here on a ramblers holiday and found it a very comfortable pleasant experience. Its location is ideally suited to explore the mountain walking trails and wonderful scenery that surrounds Capileira. This hotel is rated 2 star but it really deserves a higher rating. Apart from some of the single rooms in the older part of the hotel, the rooms are a good size with quite spacious bathrooms. The bath was great to ease tired limbs after a full day's walk. In the hotel restaurant the food came without frills but was good rustic local fare. The portion sizes at dinner were generous which was very welcome after a day in the open mountain air. The swimming pool looked inviting but as it is not heated the cool October evenings meant I did not avail of it. This hotel is family run which gave it a nice authentic Spanish feel. I would certainly recommend this hotel to other walkers wishing to explore this spectacular area.

Room Tip: Try and avoid single rooms in the older part of the hotel as some are very small and dark

Stayed here for 7 nights during a walking holiday in Las Alpujarras with Ramblers Holidays.

Our room was in the part of the hotel recently refurbished and was perfectly fine for our needs especially the large wardrobe and drawer space. We were on a 2nd floor room with balcony and enjoyed superb views across the valley.

There is no air conditioning but even though daytime temperatures were high, the temperature dropped in the evening to allow a comfortable nights sleep. It can be a little noisy at night due to the proximity of local bars but the large French doors were sufficient to block out most noise.

Our room did not have tea/coffee making facilities or internet access but the latter is available in the bar area where the password can be obtained.

We dined for 4 nights in the hotel and the food was plentiful and appetising. Continental breakfast was a little sparse and samey but not something that was of great concern to us.

We enjoyed our stay in Capileira and found the Meson Poquiera a perfectly reasonable place to stay. If we return to the area I would be happy to return to this hotel.

I had reserved a room with balcony and views, which really was nice. However, there is no aircondition and the room gets really hot in the afternoon so don't expect to sleep much until you get accustomed to the heat. The biggest disappointment for me was that they did not provide internet connection in the room as promised in the hotel description.
The service was ok, and I think the staff had a lot of loyal local customers in their bar and restaurant, but even if I speak good spanish, I never got that "good feeling" with the staff. I spent time every evening on the sidewalk where you could relax and get a beer and internet connection.

Room Tip: The rooms with a view and balcony is to the south-west, so they are warm in the evening.
