“Fantastic experience”
Reviewed 5 May 2014 for a stay in April 2014

We stayed in the cave for 10 days with 3 children and it was a fantastic experience. The cave is very well equipped and plenty big enough for the 5 of us.
We had lovely welcome food & drink supplies for us when we arrived as well as a lovely touch with Easter eggs on the kids beds.
Pat and Gordon were very helpful and provided us with a lot of information and activities to do in the area, without being intrusive.
The area around Baza is beautiful and we recommend watching the sunrise from one of the may outdoor dining locations.
We had a great stay, very memorable - Thanks Pat and Gordon.

“Paradise”
Reviewed 15 January 2014 for a stay in January 2014

When I booked this vacation, my objective was for something a little different, peace and quite, nice walks and people, and a chance to speak a little spanish. What I got was in my opinion was a vision of paradise. Dealing with the owners before, during and after was a pleasure, the cave house was spotless, warm, cosy, beautifully decorated with an attention to detail. In fact I would go as far as to say it was the best holiday I have had in nearly 50 years. The people of Baza were lovely, the scenery was breathtaking, the weather was glorious, it was extremely reasonable. If you are looking for a retreat in my opinion this is it!!

“Delightful cave house, welcoming hosts, a perfect base for a 'getaway' holiday”
Reviewed 22 October 2013 for a stay in August 2013

Truly one of the most magical holidays our family have enjoyed. Cuevas Bazavista is a delight, a unique experience that three generations of our family loved equally.

Pat and Gordon were the perfect hosts - hospitable, welcoming and friendly but never intrusive. Their help in navigating the local area, finding things to do and places to go, and even putting us in contact with a local bicycle hire service, was invaluable. And the freshly laid eggs their hens provided were most welcome too.

The cave house itself is a lovely size for four or five people - bedrooms are cool even in high summer thanks to being effectively underground, and the kitchen is well-equipped and quite spacious. The photos don't do justice to how lovely the rooms are, naturally curving walls and curtains for doors takes a bit of getting used to, but with surprisingly high ceilings and the lovely cool atmosphere even during the heat of the day, it was an oasis to retreat to for our daily siesta. The 'snug' (fifth bedroom) is a delight, and the lighting in the master bedroom is something special.

Outside, the patio is adorned with an impressive vine, and around the newly-built pool are prickly pear and figs. I can't speak to the prickly pears, but the figs were delicious.

The pool is not large, it's a pool for relaxing in, not swimming lengths, but it is so very welcome on hot days. From the poolside, or the covered bench on the hillside above the house, the views over the town of Baza are stunning - whether you're watching birds circling lazily in the heat, or the occasional sporadic thunderstorm (only one in our two week stay, and what a show the lightning put on) or even just gazing at the stars, you won't ever want to go inside.

All the practicalities were taken care of - fresh linen and towels were provided twice during our stay, the bathroom is nicely furnished and every thing we could think of was provided - even books and some DVDs, although we made very little use of them, to be fair.

Baza itself is a medium sized town just beginning to take advantages of its history and present itself to tourists. There are three small museums, many churches and historic buildings, an amazing weekly market and a large variety of interesting places to visit within an hour or two's drive. A hire car is probably essential to get the best out of a visit, as Baza has no station (although it does have a bus station, if you're determined not to drive). We enjoyed trips to Granada (the Alhambra is an absolute must), the baths at the Negratin Reservoir, and to the beach at the seaside town of Garrucha, but just driving through the stunning landscapes of the Sierra Nevada and the Altiplano was as memorable a part of the holiday.

Thanks, Pat and Gordon, for everything - and we hope to see you again some day.

¡Hasta luego!
