After a horse drawn excursion around the historic streets of Guadix, including a brief stop to explore an authentic cave home, we were drawn to this inexpensive taberna. No menu, but a personal introduction to all that was on offer that day. We opted for a dish of 6 huge prawns and grilled octopus on a bed of sliced potatoes, preceded by a very large salad. The staff were very friendly and attentive (as were the alley cats once the prawns came out), our bread and alioli/tomato dips were refreshed and an additional umbrella supplied to protect us from the sun. We accompanied our meal with soft drinks and ended with coffee and complimentary chupitas. The bill came to a very reasonable 20 euro each.

We stopped for lunch in Guadix on the way to Malaga, had no idea about the place or where to go. By luck we sat down in La Pequena Taberna, much thanks to a very active host that very eagerly persuaded us to check his counter of fresh seafood. As a location the main attraction is a narrow view to the back of the cathedral, it has a few indoor seatings and a very small and simple outdoor street side plaza, where we sat.

We ordered salt fish, octopus, razor shells, whitebaits, fried fish, vongole, and more. It was just delicious, everything! Good service, friendly and talkative host, his small daughter running around his legs and his wife cooking. Great place, highly recommended!

We found this taverna, a hole in the wall, and had a most delicious lunch for six. Six dishes (various fresh seafood) plus one on the house, dessert, wine, digestives and coffee came to 20 euros per person (including tips). The owner was so overwhelmed by our tip that he gave us food gifts to take with us on our onward journey. His young daughter rolling her tennis ball down the slope and the alley cats added charm to a delightful afternoon. Next time, I have to try the bacalao and the artichokes too.

We ate fresh squid followed by steak and home made chips. The patron gave us excellent tapas, and was efficient and helpful. The establishment is in a back street and not the smartest street but Don't be fooled by the outside, DO NOT MISS THIS!
