“1st time in a 2 star hotel, will definitely go back”
Reviewed 24 September 2012

We stayed here for the 2nd time in July this year. My husband and I stayed here in February and liked it so much that we returned with our teenage daughters. The hotel is in a great location with stunning views of the med and close to restaurants, shops, bars etc. The resort was much busier in July than it was in February but it did not feel crowded the way Nerja does in the peak season. The rooms are very spacious, many with balconies, clean, well furnished in Moroccan style and the bathrooms are large with showers that work. The staff are extremely friendly and there is a restaurant with good outdoor space. We did not try the food but it looked lovely and we will definitely have breakfast next time. Free wifi in all rooms was essential for the teenagers. Our trip in February was the first time that we have stayed in a 2 star hotel and we were pleasantly surprised. We will be returning again in a few weeks when we are in the area again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room witha balcony and a sea view.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Casablanca for 5 days while on our honeymoon. First of all, pictures don't do it justice, Almunecar is incredible. Drop-dead gorgeous (beaches with cliffs and palm-trees surrounded by rolling mountains filled with little villages precariously perched within them), tons of inexpensive, authentic, awesome restaurants, friendly people, and beautiful, uncrowded beaches. I knew we would like it, but neither of us could believe how awesome it really is.

This hotel was also great. The staff were really nice, down to earth, and friendly. The restaurant is incredible too and is where we had some of the best food we ate in Almunecar - great seafood, grilled meat, awesome fresh olives and avocados. The plaza where the hotel is located is bordered with a few little stores a bird sanctuary, a cliff with a paved path you can climb, and the beach.

The beaches are wonderful. They are stone/shingle, so this may be why there aren't gigantic hotels or hoardes of people. In my opinion, the trade-off is more than fair. Just bring a pair of aquasocks and you won't even notice the difference!

Me and my wife spent seven days las August in this hotel.
We accomodated in a double room with bath, balcony and sea view.
Architecture in moresque style inside and outside, this two star hotel is situated in a strategic location just 100 mt from the beach.
The room was clean, service good, at right cost, but the plus of this hotel has given by the restaurant.
Mentioned on michelen spanish guide, the food eaten in this place is excellent at a very cheap cost compared with the quality.
Advide grilled Fish "Dorada alla plancia" and home made avogado salad

We did not stay in this hotel but a local proposed this location for dinner. As we where attending "Assumption of Mary" with its firework in this village we chose this restaurant for its nice view over the plaza.

The quality of the food and service was very good, the waiters where friendly and competent. We where offered a local cuisine with a focus on seafood. Quality and freshness of the food was very good: seasoned only with some salt, garlic, olive oil and fresh herbs - Perfect! Prepared on the bbq grill it was a perfect combination. I can suggest any of the starters, as they all where of good quality.

On the terrace we had the perfect places for the following procession and the magnificent fireworks later the evening.

My suggestion: salad of avocado and tomatoes and any kind of grilled fish.

In total excellent value-for-money.

We stayed at the Casablanca in early June. It's a small hotel - 38 bedrooms,I think, and is well positioned at one end of Playa San Cristobal. From our balcony we had a view of the small square in front of the hotel, the headland, and, either side, the sea. The staff were always helpful, and at 48 euros a day it represents good value. We had two meals - one breakfast, one dinner, both good quality. The room was small with a double bed, a huge wardrobe, with not much actual storage space. One or two criticisms of the room apart from lack of storage space - no plug near the mirror for a hair dryer, no shelf in the bathroom for cosmetics, and mediocre aircon. I mentioned that twice, but there was no improvement. To be fair it was early season and early days for aircon. I think it's a hotel for short stays, and not for, say, a two week break. It is also genuinely Spanish but did seem to have an international clientele. It's well placed for the beach - about 50 metres, a variety of bars, and an easy walk into the town. There are some excellent tapas bars in Almunecar. The big plus is that with every drink you will get a plate of food greater than the average tapas. You could end up eating for free! You have to eat what you're given, of course - you won't get a choice! Bars we liked were La cabana - plenty of food, La China - good food , two lively owners, Sol y Mar in the main square in a busy area, and Petete near Mercadona with good tapas and some decent wines. There are plenty of others. Beach is grey and shingly, but raely busy except at weekends. very Spanish resort, good comfortable hotel

Room Tip: Ask for a front balcony room - we had 402.

We booked this for a Saturday and Sunday night away at the height of the season and have to say it was certainly adequate for what we wanted. Good location only a few metres from the beach front and a short walk into the main town. It was clean, tidy and had everything we needed for a short break - en-suite bathroom with shower, TV, comfy beds. We breakfasted out but it was served in the hotel and there was a restaurant but again we ate out for no other reason than we wanted to.

The air-con was just about good enough to keep the room cool but not great and although they didn't keep me awake, my wife was kept awake by the birds squawking in the nearby bird park.

Personally I wouldn't want to stay for longer than a few nights but ideal for the short break we had. Try it, you won't be disappointed overall.

All in all it's been a good choice but the room was very noisy all night long, one morning I woke up with the iPhone alarm (marimba) from from next door's room and I can hear any whisper from them...
The hotel has no private parking. One night I took half an hour to park the car on the street and finally I left it almost a kilometer away. Probably they'll need a parking lot.
Otherwise the room and the hotel was really beautiful and well keep.
