I had a great week here at the end of April. I had an amazing sea view and a half board deal that was second to none. The hotel was great - a bit tired re. decor - but the facilities were good. The food was plentiful but nothing particularly special, but this wasn't a problem as there were a myriad of great eateries nearby. The location was spectacular and within easy walking of the beach, town centre and the supermarket next door. It was peaceful and relaxing - until 1st May which was obviously the start of the Spanish holiday season, and the hotel was full - and very busy. I would definitely return - Almunecar is really beautiful, but it would be before the holiday season.
As there was a language problem (my poor Spanish and the staff's poor English) I would like to suggest that the hotel and/or town develop a newsletter or up-to-date website which tells visitors what is on, where and when, including opening times. This would enable tourists, like myself, to get the most out of this really wonderful place.

Dear Guests,
I would like to thank you for your comments, as it is through them the best way we can improve the quality of our service, understanding the perception of our product and most important the quality and friendly service we provide.
I inform you the school holidays in Spain are from end of June until the beginning of September. But from 1st May to the 4th May was a long weekend and this was the reason he had so many children in the hotel.
We will have very much in mind your impressions and we will work to improve these points marked so that in the next visit your perception of the product received is entirely satisfactory.

Atentamente,
Carlos Estévez Escalera

We stayed at this hotel for 9 nights in one of the junior suites, with a very large balcony and jacuzzi on it.We enjoyed the pools (one indoor and the other outdoor), the SPA center. We had the half pension arrangement and enjoyed every meal. Very good location for visiting the area, up to Granada.
Next time we'll try it as a couple, it's have a very good potential by side being a very nice family hotel.

This is now our 7th visit and we already booked our next stay to return in one month..
This last visit was one where we booked 3 days in half board free of charge, using our Club Playa Vip loyalty points which we accumulated over the past 5 years. This loyalty card is totally free of charge and gives you many other benefits like rebate for the spa, etc...
While this short stay was totally free of charge, the service remained perfect as it has been during all our past visits.
Most personnel in the hotel are there since our first visit 5 years ago (and likely even before that), so there personnel is very loyal and that is always a good sign in my eyes. A good employer is often a good host for its guests too.
We were there on week-days in March and the hotel had a lot more guests then we expected, considering it is low season.
As usual all hotel personnel is very friendly and doing their utmost to help you in French/English where possible. Even the room maid was making efforts to communicate with us and she too is always very kind and helpfull.
Food was again very good (see my earlier appraisals of this hotel). The cook can prepare you made to order food (like omelets at breakfast, pancakes in the evening, etc...).
Everyday you can have free cava and mineral water at breakfast .
Rooms are kept clean, our linen was changed 2 times in 4 days ! Towels can be changed daily if you wish so.
Drinks are priced very reasonable. There is also a daily "cocktail of the day" at about half the normal cost. We can recommend it. We tried a few and they are excellent.
Some visitors complain about the state of the hotel, but we do see signs that the hotel group is making efforts to renovate, repair, refresh elements of the hotel. Considering the crisis in Spain the past years this is in my eyes an achievement.
The public market takes place every Friday (at walking distance of about 1.5kms) and is worthwhile visiting. If you have a car, you can also visit the markets in Nerja (Tuesdays) and Torrox (Mondays).
Hotel is next to the promenade and opposite the beach. P.S. If you think this review has helped you, please indicate so though your "support "vote. Thanks

Room Tip: There is a daily activity program in the hotel, even in low season. But you can also choose to go fo...

very friendly staff,
rooms are big and clean with a typical spanish look ( a bit old fashioned for me, with the old-skool big TV)

Breakfast was very nice with a lot of variation.

I did not use the other facilities (short stay) but the swimming pools looked very nice.

Also a lot to do in the neighbourhood!

Being a frequent visitor to Almunecar, I have stayed at the Almunecar Playa Hotel several times over the past 10 years. In my opinion it is by far the best hotel in the town, superb location, friendly hotel staff, large outdoor pool area with Jacuzzi, indoor pool and spa and a handy gym for guests use, clean spacious rooms and sparkling bathrooms. I normally book bed and breakfast only because the old town is full of vibrant bars and restaurants and the old Spanish tradition of "free" tapas is alive and well. However I have noticed a steady deterioration in the quality and quantity of breakfast in the restaurant at the Playa. Perhaps it is because my past few visits were in the winter season with fewer staff employed, but once I enjoyed a full cooked breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausages, baked beans fried tomatoes, but on my last visit only baked beans and cooked sliced potatoes were on offer, a kitchen staff member eventually came and started cooking eggs and bacon about 15 minutes after the restaurant opened, and the fruit juice dispenser was empty and was not refilled, the rest of the food was OK with plenty of fruits, jams, breads, sliced meats and cheeses however. All in all a fine hotel, but let down (at least off season) by the food. I am booked in again in March perhaps there has been an improvement.

Room Tip: Go higher, level 5 is good, get a room overlooking the pool area in winter (sea view) and the old to...

We booked last minute as we needed to attend a family funeral, we had stayed here previously about six years ago so knew what we were getting !! the hotel has a very impressive reception area and the glass lifts are an 'experience' .... however the check-in itself was very slow indeed, the staff were very friendly and helpful they just didn't seem to be in any rush to book us in, the rooms are large and clean.

The views over the gardens to the sea are beautiful and the bathroom amenities are very good ..... No kettle though (a bug bare of mine) I had remembered this and taken my travel kettle and I was very glad I had, there is a fridge in the room which is great for keeping soft drinks and milk, it was chilly at night but they provided a blanket which made all the difference, the rooms also have heating.

The only other gripe I have is the Wifi, for the size of the hotel im surprised you have to pay to access this as nowadays you would expect this as standard, it cost 6 euros for 24 hours so if your there any longer than a week/weekend it could be expensive, you get an hours free wifi a day in the lobby but I like to relax on the internet in the room ?!

The food was very good and plenty of it, the facilities are also excellent, we didn't use the spa but from what I remember its very good.

The staff are very friendly and helpful and over all this is a lovely hotel, I would defiantly stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the sea and on a high floor
