“Never been disappointed”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 September 2013

We first came to the beach because it was in a naturist guide, but having found a very pleasant beach with such good facilities we have come again and again and the fact that clothes are optional on the beach isn't really a consideration any more. The restaurant provides toilets, showers, sun beds and sun shades for sun worshippers as well as outdoor terraces and indoor shade to enjoy a meal. The food is very good. The house salads are highly recommended and there is good seafood and satisfying home prepared pasta. Generous portions and reasonably priced. In the summer it is busy but never overcrowded and we have been for lunch on a sunny February day and sat on the terrace in t-shirt and shorts. In the winter do allow a bit more time for the food as some of the homemade dishes will come from the freezer for obvious practical reasons and take longer to heat through.

“Never been to the Caribbean but...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 March 2013

...can only imagine that, with a little more sand and fewer pebbles, this is as close as it gets in Europe. Been coming to La Barraca for years now and although this has more often been for ' 'refreshments' than the full dining experience, as a 'beach bar/restaurant' environment it is difficult to conceive of how it could be bettered. The location, in an idyllic horseshoe shaped bay at the bottom of a stunning gorge is magnificent and was used as the setting for chapter six of the book 'Anna and the Goggly Eyed Lizardy Things' which is set in the area. We tend to find ourselves here in Spring or Autumn and one imagines it may become very crowded at the height of summer. Neither is it the best location for nervous drivers or, for the reasons that 'Denmark 46' has already alluded to, the prudish but in every other respect it is close to perfection.

“Hidden Treasure”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 February 2013

La Barraca has over the last many years been a well kept secret among Spanish and North European residents of the area. It is a traditional beach restaurant in the very best sense of the word, and although it sits right on the pebble beach, it is hardly visible from the sea or the beach.
It is lovely place to have drinks and snacks after a day on the beach, but the traditional local seafood is so good that the restaurant also attracts people for a hearty lunch or dinner.
The surrounding area is part of a national nature reserve, which means that wild mountain goats occasionally can be spotted quite close to the restaurant.
But not only goats can be spotted: The beach is an official naturist beach and can be quite crowded on a warm day. So if public nudity offends you or your family, then better go to another of the many beach restaurants along tha coast.
