“Friendly hotel”
Reviewed 9 February 2014 via mobile

Stayed here for the month of january and enjoyed our visit. Hotel is in a lovely location and rooms spacious and the hotel is spotlessly clean and the staff cheerful. There is a pleasant rooftop terrace with great views. The restaurant was rather tightly packed with tables, the food was a buffet with a good breakfast selection, the dinners were adequate, although food did get a bit repetitive after a couple of weeks and meals could have been hotter. The waiting staff were friendly and worked very hard. In general, good value for money.

We stayed here for a week in December. The room was everything we had asked for and more. We had a quiet room on a high floor with a sea view and balcony. The room was very spacious and clean. The downside was that there wasn't enough storage space for clothes. It was also very cold at night. I like to sleep with fresh air circulating and heating off during the night. The beds only had a sheet and thin counterpane. There were blankets in the wardrobe, but they were very dusty so we didn't use them. I would advise any other fresh air fiends to pack very warm pyjamas. The sound proofing between the rooms is very poor. I expect a certain amount of television noise, but when you can discern that someone in the next room has a limp you know the walls are thin!
We found all the staff helpful and friendly. They were professional when we booked in and advised us where to park without incurring a charge. On one day we forgot to turn the "do not disturb" sign round and returned, after a day's sightseeing, to a room which hadn't been cleaned. However, we reported it to the reception staff and the housekeeper quickly sorted our room for us.
We had a package deal which was cheaper with half board than just B&B. The hotel's food is very average and the vegetarian option was invariably inedible. However, there was a reasonable choice and we tended to have a main meal out during the day and use the hotel for "snacking" in the evening. We were allowed to sit where we wanted to.
I had booked this hotel because of its outdoor heated pool. However, the pool is small and the hotel expected us to pay 1.50 Euros to borrow a swim towel. If you intend using the pool bring your own. Also the hotel charges 15 Euros for a key to the "safe" in the bedroom. This is made out of wood and anyone with a bit of determination and a metal nail file could probably break it open. I would advise bringing something you can secure your valuables in.
There's a large supermarket just round the corner which stocks pretty much anything you could want from fresh fruit to toiletries.

Stayed here with family. Hotel is right by beach with great views. Staff friendly. The area is lovely, and the sun was shining. I paid low price as here for one month so as a result i have got what i paid for, but would not pay nightly rate of 90-160€ as stated on tariff.
Room:
Bed was uncomfortable. There was a mattress protector on the hard mattress which was old a creased up. I asked the maid to leave it off but bed hard. Bathroom had a constant smell of sewage so changed rooms. Hotel requires maintenance. Bedroom doors need a good slam to shut so when others in hotel come or go it makes a loud bang.
Food: the food was not good. It was buffet food on a half board basis which I anticipated, but it was not varied, and poor quality, so I took to eating out instead. There were so many people there that the brightly lite basement room was packed, noisy, and people were crowded around the food queuing to get to it.
Three stars are because it was cheap but won't return.

Loved the location as it was by the sea on a flat promenade. I was there over Christmas and was disappointed with the evening entertainment. The bed was very hard and I did not sleep very well. As there were 2 single beds in my room I put the 2 mattresses together and that was better. I understand they are in the process of upgrading the beds. The food was good and I especially enjoyed the meals on Christmas Eve and Christmas day.

A good hotel right next to a long flat promenade A 15 minute walk into the town centre which still retains some Andalucian character. A good varied buffet for breakfast and dinner. Room is well furnished but the beds were very hard which is uncomfortable for some people. Lovely 10th floor sun deck. A very suitable hotel for older or less able guests.

Room Tip: Depends whether you prefer morning or evening sun.

I`ve just got back from two weeks at this hotel with Saga. We were lucky with the weather (18 - 22 C in December !) and with this excellent hotel. My room was quiet, very clean, the bed was comfortable, the food was really good - a plentiful buffet with lots of variety. The level walk into Almunecar takes 15 minutes and is delightful. As a solo traveller I felt perfectly safe here and will certainly hope to return. The hotel provides a range of activities for those who wish to be entertained. I particularly enjoyed the Spanish dancing and the cultural and historical talks. People come back to this place and this hotel year after year. I can understand why.
