Checking in was very organized and friendly. The setting is outstanding. However the facilities that house the house the accomodations are in dire need of renovation. Furnishings are rather basic, the bed was very comfortable. However i was awakened at 5:30 AM by the roar of the adjoining room's shower. In addition most of the porch lights were burned out or not in operation making it rather difficult to see the room entrance and a definite challenge unlocking the door. Really too bad, this could be an outstanding facility, but it seems the company that operates this lodge for the park service puts profits before basic services.

The Far View Hotel is located in and is the only hotel in Mesa Verde National Park, making its location excellent to seeing the cliff dwellings in the park. The visitors center is no longer located near the hotel, so be sure to get your tour tickets at the visitors center prior to driving into the park.

I had a Kiva Room which was good with a nice outdoor balcony, It also had air conditioning but it wasn't really needed, even in july. The bed was a bit on the soft side for my taste but after a long day of touring the national park, it was welcomed.

The hotel grounds sit atop a hill and hence the name of the hotel, since from the hill there are far views into the distance This hotel is really more like a motel, in several buildings scattered along the hilltop. While some of the rooms may have that far view, many, including the one I had, had a view into some shrubs and the parking area and backside of another motel building, not exactly what I was expecting from the name. Still, it was very quiet and the balcony was enjoyable.

The lobby for the hotel was nicely furnished and the restaurant was exceptional. Staying at this hotel will cut travel time to the sites in the park and therefore should be seriously considered.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a view.

Just spoke with the reservation staff about booking two rooms in July. I booked online for the standard room. She said the standard does not have A/C, are older, in a separate building. Kiva for $60 more is in the main building, has AC and newly renovated with nicer views. Just came back from Mesa Verdes. The hotel is very relaxing on the top of the hill, it being the only lodging in the national park. The restaurant food is good, but service very slow (we were told by the waiter after waiting 45 minutes that that's the average wait time for prepared food). Rooms are small old but clean, beddings are comfy. Our rooms did not have views since it was blocked by trees, and all rooms are in separate buildings. Turns out we did not really need the A/C after all since the temperature was low when we were there. Had a lovely stay. Staffs are friendly and helpful.

We were on a 10 day trip and this was our favorite stop along the way! We stayed in a Kiva room and it was very clean (can't say that for every stop we made!), beautiful view, great food. Let me say it again...great food! They have board games available and my kiddos and I played all night and laughed ourselves silly. We will be back!

We have been traveling out west for 2 weeks and staying in a variety of lodges in the National Parks. On our way back from visiting the Grand Canyon, Zion, and Bryce Canyon, we were looking foward to a tour of the cliff dwellings at this park. After reading the reviews on the Far View Lodge, we upgraded our original room two weeks prior to our stay to an air-conditioned Kiva room with two Queen beds for one night. Yes, it was quite small and tight compared to other rooms at the park lodges we have stayed in, but this had just what we needed. It was clean, comfy and quiet with nice views from our balcony. The fresh mountain air was just wonderful, but after coming off the porch, we were glad to close the door and have ac because of insects. We did not have neighbors on either side, so we did not hear any noise.
When we arrived, we did not get to the main gate until 730 pm, and the half hour drive up to the lodge meant that we did not make it to the cafeteria- style eatery until closing. Being on a budget, we were not prepared to eat at the other fancy, expensive restaurant, so we opted to eat in the more reasonably priced lounge upstairs. We ate outside on the deck and enjoyed great food with a beautiful sunset view.

As part of a 15 state cross country trip we spent one night in Mesa Verde NP at Far View Lodge. I wish we could have stayed for a few days the place was that relaxing. We were in room 141 which was an end room at the front of the ridge. The views from our balcony were amazing. The room was on the small side but contained everything one needed especially a fridge. There is no one under you or above you which was a nice change. The walls are a little thin but with the air conditioning on we didn't hear our neighbors at all. We just spent two nights at Yavapai lodge ag the Grand Canyon and paid more money and no balcony so I think Far View is comparable to other National park with lodging. One should be aware that the 14 mile drive up the mountain is winding and long. Be sure to get your tickets for tours before you come up. For some inexplicable reason you can not get tour tickets at the lodge. The restaurant is a short walk from your room and is excellent. There is also a café up there too for more economical meals. although with a fridge in the room and the balcony with table and chairs I suggest hitting the grocery store before you go up. Also, put your do not disturb sign up the night before. The maid was knocking on our door at 7:45am. In her defense we were the only ones still in our room at that time as most people are making the most of their time in the park.

Room Tip: Room 141 or any in that row are in the front and have the best views.

Expected significantly more for a $175 a night room. If built correctly, the room would have masked the noise from all sides - walls too thin, hear everything next door - talking, toilet, wash basin, doors to balcon, walking etc. the floor moves when your neighbors walk. Food great at the onsite restaurant but hotel a major let down.
