This is worth doing, but I would still suggest going on one of the guided tours.

- Do it in the morning.
- The kids liked climbing into the kiva.
- It was harder to get good photos since this doesn't require a reservation.
- It was nice to go at our own pace, but you miss all the information provided by the guided tour. The guided tour of Cliff Palace was also calmer and you could get a better feel of the place.
- If you have a young child you can take a stroller down the path.
- We ate at the restaurant at the top of the trail and it was a nice break after the heat.

We arrived on our own at 7:00 AM and had the place to ourselves. At 7:00 the trail is not open, but one can view this home from the overlook with great photo opportunities too. Stunning to be here with no other people!!

You can tour this ruin all on your own plus get much closer than the guided tours. In the museum and along the trail there are boxes with guides to this house. Also there are a couple of rangers on site to ask questions. Steep paved path on the way, though, and it is in the full sun most of the way.

Very helpful staff, neat museum, paved path for a not too hard hike to the spruce place, get to explore the dwellings and even go underground, free! Very cool historic site, beautiful views on drive thru park. Must see!

You do not need tickets for this cliff dwelling so that is a major plus. It is a good size. There was a ranger there to answer questions. Hike is pretty easy in and out. If you don't think you can do the hike, you can just look at it from the museum, post office area and it is still super cool.
