After a rather long wait main course was served. Terrible is a very kind statement. To make matters worse the server had recommended it as one of their"best". In that case i would hate to sample the other menu selections.?

good restaurant in mesa verdes. great view overlooking a road and the park. the only onsite restaurant connected to the hotel. the pork is their signature dish, told to us by their executive chef. the service was very slow. we were not warned. after waiting for 45 minutes, i asked the waiter what happened to our food (was a weekday), he said 45 minutes were the average wait time for prepared food, and he forgot our salad. the salad quickly arrived and was tiny in a french fancy restaurant way. dessert was the best! the pork i asked for medium, and it was overcooked. favor was still unique though. Overall i give it 4.

After a long afternoon exploring Mesa Verde we were looking for a nice dinner and decided to give this a try given the good reviews. Service was good and the view was very nice, but that seemed to be what you were paying for...given its price, we were not blown away with the food (good, not great). Probably worth trying once to see for yourself, but we would likely not return, mainly because of the steep prices.

We stayed at Far View Lodge in Mesa Verde. After a full day we decided to walk to the Metate Room. What a wonderful surprise awaited us! The view was beautiful as the sun went down. The ambience of a classy restaurant in the middle of nowhere was totally unexpected. The children's menu provided some healthy choices for our granddaughters. The chef consulted on lower sodium choices with my husband. Both of our meals were top notch. Our waiter, Colby Stanton, completed the scenario for a perfect dinner. He was very attentive to all of us. He must have a photographic memory: no notes on our orders, and they came out perfect. Our granddaughters were enthralled by the special attention. To top it off the prices were quite reasonable.

Our trip to Mesa Verde was part of a 3 week cross country trip hitting among other places: Arches NP and the Grand Canyon, Grand Rapids Michigan, Duluth Minnesota and Denver CO. A lot of planning went into the trip and after reviewing the menu I budgeted dinner at Metate. It did not disappoint. My daughter got the wild salmon and I got the duck breast over chile polenta. My husband got the steak medallions. All fabulous. Big portion of salmon and since my daughter is allergic to tree nuts it needed to be specially prepared without. Not a problem at all. We started with the queso and it was very good as well. Everyone around us seemed very pleased with their meals as well. Our server was Colby; a very gregarious young man who knows his job well and does it with a great attitude. We started with drinks in the lounge because there was a bit of a wait for a table. they were a little overwhelmed so service was slow but understandably so. The waitress was unbelievably patient with the international visitors at the next table.
