Well kept, beautiful grounds. Holds so much history. To see families all together, and the dates back 300 years. Author's Ridge was breathtaking; wow. Must see!

“Author's Ridge”

This beautiful cemetery graces us with the presence of some of the great, Emerson, Thoreau, Louisa May Alcott, Hawthorne and their families are buried here. Peaceful and beautiful. Get an online map of the cemetery as it is quite large but wonderful to navigate. Another great reason to visit Concord!

How to rate cemetaries? If one thinks of them as sculpture parks, then there are others more elaborate - Mt. Auburn for one. But this does have some variety including the stones of the Alcotts, the Thoreaus, the Hawthornes, Waldo and Lydian, etc. For those interested in just paying respects to certain folks, signage could be better. But to get a sense of the town and the place where some of those buried here once played and mused, this gets high marks. We visited after visiting the Orchard House in the early evening - quiet, uncluttered, capping a great day in town.

Had a good wander around here and even found the Louise Alcott plot (Little Women), which brought back some memories for my wife

SO beautiful! Hard to find some sites but spending time here is tranquil and interesting and it was awe inspiring to see the final resting place of some of America's greatest resources....
