Owner description: Nineteenth-century luminaries such as Louisa May Alcott, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau are buried here.

You can find Thoreau, Emerson, Louisa May Alcott, and others all right next to each other. It is free and you can pick up a free map of all the grave sites at the visitor center. It is a decent walk from the town center and, in retrospect, I would suggest driving to the site rather than walking.

The Author's Ridge, clearly marked, in the quaintly named Sleepy Hollow cemetery is so close to all the other great stops on a fairly small town just called us. It's a lovely old cemetery with old original settlers names, as well as the revered writers. I was surprised Henry Thoreau's stone is just the size of the family members near the family Stone, but it makes sense. Likewise Louisa May Alcott in the family plot. Emerson's is much more enhanced. The Hawthorne family plot is similarly modest.

And something of a shrine to Thoreau, Emerson and Alcott fans, who stack pencils on the headstones. It's an easy walk from the village of Concord.

Easy to get lost looking for the famous graves, but fun to get lost in just the same. Very well-kept and a nice place to walk around in and get some exercise, lots of hills.

Famous families on a hillside just off the center of town. Enjoy the quintessential New England town shopping and eating along with experiencing the gravesides of those who were part of history.
