My wife and I have visited this beautiful area around Begur on the Costa Brava for the last ten years. Sa Rascassa is owned and run by Oscar and his wife and they serve the most wonderful simple food, probably the best in the area. It is locally sourced and prepared with care and passion. So much bland cooking is disguised by presentation. At Sa Rascassa it is all about the food and friendly service. You can lunch or eat in the evening and take a great walk along the coastal paths. Do miss this little gem.

took the taxi a while to find but we were very impressed when we arrived for our 2 nights, very peaceful and magical eating outside under the fairy lights. Oscar is one of those people that you feel you have known all your life. we will return.

Stylish and comfortable rooms situated metres from the sea shore. There is no common area for sitting in the winter time aside from the restaurant area when open - it didn't affect the experience but something to bear in mind. Oscar's attention to detail, helpfulness and style combined with excellent food - both dinner and breakfast made for a great stay. Thank you!

This really is a superb location - where in the world can you find an affordable hotel two steps away from a beautiful uncrowded (at least in Sept) cove? The restaurant is simple with great food and Oscar is warm and informed host. However we were a little disappointed with the rooms which were quite small and didn't live up to the promise of the website. Still as long at the weather is good, you really only need to sleep there. Also thought they could do a little more with the terrace outside the rooms, some more comfortable seating etc.

Our time in Begur was a highlight of a recent trip to Spain that my wife and I took to initially attend a friend's wedding in Barcelona over the summer. We stayed 2 nights in Hostal Sa Rascassa and loved every minute of it despite the summer heat and lack of air conditioning. The location is a bit quirky and secluded but, for us that turned out to be just perfect.

All the staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful. Oscar, the manager, has very high standards and really seems to want the guests to enjoy what this little gem has to offer. We certainly did. Especially the food! We had several of the best meals of our entire trip at Sa Rascassa and still talk about a few of the dishes to this day.

I booked here on the strength of reviews. I travelled with a friend. I thought the rooms were lovely, beds comfy and the bathroom more than adequate, in fact the shower was very powerful. Staff were great, Oscar arranged that we could have an early morning tray of tea and coffee in our room before breakfast, the lady who manages breakfast (sorry I've forgotten her name) was very helpful and friendly. Lunch and dinner was excellent.
BUT the it was very noisy at night, the restaurant tables are right below the rooms. It was nearly 1 am before I really had to lean out of the window to ask if people could possibly keep the noise down. There are NO facilities once the restaurant is closed, not even to get tea or coffee so a tray would be very welcome in the rooms with a kettle.
Sa Tuna is very picturesque, and we loved Begur.. lovely town square. We were bothered by flies and were bitten to death.
A car is essential. We loved the peace and quiet. Would definitely go again.. but would take a travel kettle.
We were sorry that we didn't have time to go to Girona..Cadaques was horrible!

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same..but take a travel kettle..

My husband and I stayed here for four nights during our honeymoon and absolutely adored it. The rooms are simple but beautiful with nice beds and linens and great bathrooms with waterfall shower heads. Everything has been recently updated, and they keep them sparklingly clean as well. The location on a small private cove is private and quiet. We loved taking the coastal path in different directions every morning - you are an easy drive or good walk from several beautiful beaches like Sa Tuna and Sa Riera. Breakfast every morning was hearty and delicious, with the best croissants I have ever had along with strong coffee, meats and cheeses, and fresh-squeezed juices.

The location of the hotel was great. It was an easy drive from Barcelona. We dined in Begur a few nights and also took day trips to Begur, Figueres, Pals, Palafrugell and some of the other beaches.

Oscar, the owner, is a fabulous and entertaining host. The restaurant is his pride and joy, and it is fabulous. We kept canceling other reservations so we could eat at the hotel. We got through most of the menu and specials - everything was outstanding - the food, the wine, the service, and the ambiance. I can't say enough about what a special place this is - we heartily recommend it and plan to return.
