The hotel is well located but the staff is unfriendly and not helpful. The rooms look nice, but the shower doesn't.
We stayed there just because we arrived late into town and had no other choice. The wifi hardly worked even in the lobby. Avoid.

Room Tip: Rooms in other hotels are nicer, but if you must - rooms on the top floor have very small windows.

Nice hotel in good location but we were checked in by someone who spoke no English (why allow bookings through UK websites if you can't have at lease some basic help for guests). She tried to explain something to us but had to 'phone a friend' who told us an important message about the breakfast (which we did not order) being served elsewhere. Not sure what would have happened if we had anything else to communicate. After that, we did not see another single member of staff. When we came to check-out, no one was around and we even tried to use the hotel phones to call but no avail. In trying to use the phone, we had full access to the reception desk and could even see the booking details of other guests. Eventually, a maintenance worker appeared and kindly phoned someone who explained that my credit card had, in my absence and without my permission, been used for the hotel bill. As I had intended to pay with cash, I found this very annoying. We were in a room designed for disabled guests- who knows what would have been the consequences if an emergency had happened as there were no staff on site to help any guest let alone someone who might have extra needs. Customer service non-existent and wouldn't stay again. Restraunt area looked dingey and shower very complicated and instructions in English were total nonsense.

This hotel lovely from the outside. The rooms are very passable, aircon, great views and unfussy. Besalu is a town I visit regularly. Sadly, this hotel could be so much nicer without much effort. The reception staff are 'cold' but are untrained and don't know better. The rooms are furnished with the fake antique nastiness of a 70s Marriot. The lighting is severe. But, the owners are very proud of their blingy taste and am sure couldn't give a fiddlers for any of these reviews. In way, this is part of the charm of here. The breakfast room is stuffy, functional and utilitarian. The food is adequate... Will someone just tell the owners to stop doing the place up themselves and get a half decent designer in? Please?

My husband and I just returned from a trip to Spain and we stayed at this hotel in Besalu for part of our trip. At first, we loved the place. We had a very nice, spacious, clean room with a/c on the second floor with a balcony overlooking the cute square. But . . . by morning we were totally disgusted. First of all, I discovered around 6 am that we had no water. We repeatedly called and visited the front desk to report the problem, but no one showed up until a little after 8:30, even though we were told breakfast would be served starting at 8:30. Good thing we hadn't planned on checking out early, because we would have been outta luck. When the young woman did arrive to work the front desk, she couldn't speak any English and was, frankly, rude and dismissive. She even walked away from us grumbling in Spanish because we had the audacity to ask for milk for our coffee. I wouldn't stay there again if I had to.

We spent one afternoon and night here before catching our flight from Girona. The hotel was well situated and clean but there was a definite smell of drains in the lobby. However, the whole town seems to suffer from this unfortunate problem. Our room was small but that was fine as we were only sleeping there for one night and it was comfortable enough. The bathroom was clean and everything worked properly. The breakfast was disappointing but I think that was because it was a Monday. Overall for the price we paid it was perfectly adequate for an overnight stay. It would help to speak some Spanish though as the staff do not speak english.

Stayed here for two nights late December. Catalunya was hit by very bad weather, very low temperatures and non stop rain. This hotel looked fine, it was well located, but I am afraid that we didnt have a good experience. There was no heat in the room both nights, and I asked staff several times to fix it. I eventually just gave up, because I knew that nothing was going to happen. I asked for the manager the next day and was told that he was away on holidays until 6th January. We paid 110 a night, and when I asked a couple next to me at breakfast if they had heat in their room, tney told me they were staying at the sister hotel nearby for 60e per night, where they had head, and breakfast in our hotel. I ended up complaining to the tourist board, but all this was to no avail. Maybe this is a great place to stay in the summer, but if you are looking for any appearance of professionalism, customer service, interest in dealing with any problems, forget about it

After three days in Barcelona this was our day in the countryside before heading into Girona...unfortunately by the time we made it through the traffic heading out of the city we had lost part of the day...and also Spain had been hit by very unseasonal weather bringing snow to most of the north of the country and cold rain to Besalu.
The hotel though was warm and welcoming, although trying to find a member of staff that spoke English was not easy. Like the previous reviewer we were given a room in the roof..which we could not fault..Yes, noise from the adjacent room could be heard and it was fun the next morning to try and work out which of the other couples having breakfast had enjoyed their romantic workout the night before!
Had a great breakfast with plenty to choose from and no limit on how much.
We got the impression this hotel also owns the inn on the main road (the same staff showed at at both), we went there for lunch, at the same time as a coach load of OAPs...great value and good food.
