Really never thought about surviving the winter until you see a root cellar that had to store food for the family for 5 months. Or beams that are 40' long because they had trees big enough to make a 10x10 that long. If this stuff and the history of the families that lived there interest you. You should go. Nice guys telling the stories and nice gift shop.

The time to go is in December during the Museums Tour in Frederick. They decorate it for Christmas and have re-enactors that give a taste of what it was like then. Fire on the fireplace. And the interesting part is that parts of the building is exposed so you can see the craftmanship that went into making a traditional farmhouse. They had kids activities when I was there but it was a special time.

If you are visiting Frederick, MD, don't miss touring this beautiful home built in the German style. Our tour guide, Pat Miller, was filled with knowledge about both the history & architecture of the home. It was fascinating to see the construction of the home, including clever innovations that were used in the 1700's.

A must-see!

I have toured this house many times over the past 20 years and always enjoy seeing the building and introducing out-of-towners to old Frederick history. The people taking care of the house and the tour change from time to time, but are always friendly and knowledgeable. You can't go wrong here. Please leave them a donation to help with upkeep!
