This extraordinary hideaway 20 kms from the main north south costal route in Spain is very different. From individually styled bedrooms to homemade bread, cakes and jam for breakfast this is a special place. Andres the proprietor oversees every aspect. From a welcome greeting to suggestions for time spent in the locality or the best onwards route it's worth the drive!

Once in awhile, you come across a hotel or inn that makes you feel like more than just a customer, but a valued friend. The Hospederia Bajo el Cejo was exactly this. When we were driving there, we thought our navigation had gone awry, but the windy roads eventually led us to a lovely inn located in a valley perfumed by orange blossoms and surrounded by a scenic mountain view. Bajo el Cejo was quaint and felt like a fairly large but quiet boutique condominium. Our welcoming host immediately invited us to a delicious four course dinner, one that even probed us to ask for the recipe of one of the dishes. It even included various fruits picked off the trees at the hospederia. The breakfast was equally superb. We never got to use the swimming pool or hike the scenic trails, but we were still satisfied at our stay because the host went the extra mile on every facet of our stay: the flexible times, the freshly squeezed juice, upmost consideration to our wellbeing... We yearn to return and stay for a much longer period of time. You have to visit this place!

We visited this hotel after reading all the great reviews, we weren't disappointed! The views were amazing from up there and we saw more wildlife in that one day than we've seen in our 10 years of visiting spain.

Andrés greeted us with a big smile and friendly handshake and showed us to our room. The room (jr suite) was charming with a terrace. The bed was very comfortable and large which is just what we needed after sleeping in a tiny lumpy bed for the past few days!

But, the thing that made the trip so enjoyable was the food. Droooolll. All the food was homemade and better than any food I've ever tasted in Spain before. Very simple but beautifully cooked. The pork tasted like steak, amazing. The friendly English waitress made things very easy and even more pleasant! Andrés also spoke good English (although he said it wasn't good, it was much better than my Spanish!).

We will definitely be visiting again but next time for more than one night. There are lots of walks in the woods which need exploring.

Everything about this hotel has been well thought out and I couldn't fault it. Thank you for our lovely stay, we'll be back!!

Room Tip: I'm not sure that all rooms have a terrace. We booked the Junior suite because we wanted a balcony.

My husband and I visited this hotel in April without a sat nav I don't think we would of found this wonderful hotel. Andreas the owner and Pippa are very friendly and nothing is to much trouble.
The rooms are comfortable and the views are amazing.
Dinner is a five course meal left to the chef's imagination once again we where not disappointed.
We will definitely visit this hotel again.

Room Tip: Mountain view rooms

We overlapped with the previous reviewers(Peter and Julie) and agree with all they say. We also stayed over the weekend when the hotel was quite busy - quite a change from earlier in the week when we basically had the place to ourselves. You might want to consider this when booking.
Another thing to think about is the fact that the premises are on a very steep incline and the short hike up to the village would'nt suit elderly or infirm folk.
A final word about our hosts, Andres and Pippa. You will go a long way before you meet two more genuinely helpful and pleasant people. They made our stay extra special.
