“Hotel Port Denia”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 February 2014

We visited this hotel in January as part of the Spanish Imserso system. The hotel was full of English Saga holidaymakers and Spanish Imserso guests. Hotel was very good especially considering it is categorised 3 star. Food was good with plenty of choice etc for both nationalities.
Several English guests we spoke to had been coming to the same hotel for years - so a good recommendation for it. Also some were there for long stays of up to 3 months.

Room Tip: The rooms without balconies were bigger. Ours had two double beds.

I have previously reviewed this hotel in February 2013. I have revisited in 2014. There have been some changes. Things that have stayed the same are the very helpful and friendly staff.
Not sure what they have done to the wifi but it is now useless. Impossibly slow and confined to a small area in the lobby. Small devices like I phones seem to have particular difficulty.

Food remains very bland and the quality and choice seems poorer than last year. It was acceptable last year to make your own sandwiches if you were going out for the day but now they want you to order a packed lunch by 8pm the night before. They are so poor that many folk give the contents to the Spanish saga rep for distribution to the poor in her community. Fortunately the staff turn a blind eye to you continuing to make your own lunch and smuggle it out.

The biggest downside is the Spanish pensioners who arrive for their free four day holiday each week. Noisy pushy and very numerous. Plus the locals who come in to watch the evening entertainment. Chairs are set out for them..they don't buy a drink they just pack the place out. Why the hotel tolerates them beats be.

The best thing for this hotel would be to refurb the tired decor...and upgrade to four star. Constant cost cutting measures will only see it head further down market

Room Tip: Front have balcony rear are more spacious..higher floors have better views

Just back from a 2 week holiday booked with Saga. Arrived just after 3pm so missed lunch and because of siesta time there was nothing open locally so ended up with crisps from the machine in the bar - if you are arriving between 3 and 7 then eat on the plane.
The hotel is immaculately clean and kept so by the hard working staff. Our room on the 7th floor had a beautiful sea view ( though rooms on opposite side of hotel had no balconies or view), room was large enough with plenty of storage, safe, big bathroom with shower over full size bath and hairdrier.
Plenty of info on Saga board and reps/reception staff available for advice.
Food was plentiful and varied even for picky eaters usually a special at each meal, red wine also very palatable! We never had too much trouble finding a table even at week ends when Spanish families arrive for their short breaks.
Can't recommend packed lunches though, ordering tuna means you get a tin and trying to open/drain/make a sarnie in town is difficult (a tip we were given later, pick up your lunch early and take it to your room to organise).
Saga trips very good, we paid for an extra trip to Valencia, a very pretty city we would like to spend more time in.
The entertainment was fine, the bar downstairs was quieter, cooler and the quizzes were a good way to meet people.
A card room had games and a large library of books.
Public and pool areas seemed well maintained, again staff worked hard to keep standards high.
Denia is a quiet town so the hotel tends to be where you spend the evenings, no good if you want to go clubbing! A local tram is frequent and cheap, the scenic route takes you to Benidorm with stops at Althea, Calpe etc. You could get to Alicante though the return trip takes 5 hours.
At 60 we still felt young on this trip but can still recommend the hotel/area/Saga as we booked for a quiet get away from British weather and feel we got this at a reasonable price.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms have balconies

We recently returned from a family holiday staying at the Port Denia Hotel only to find the travel agent Bath Travel had booked us into a Saga holidays hotel.
We were the only family in the hotel and the saga guests made us feel very un welcome to the point my wife was in tears daily and we couldnt wait to get home
The hotel itself was very good and the staff were great my gripe is with Bath travel or sending us there in the first place and not researching the holiday for us as it wasnt fair on us but also not fair on the older generation as they too didnt want families on their holiday.

its not the hotel if you are under 65 years old and the staff did say families go but in the summer and ainly spanish so avoid it in the winter
We went all inclusive and the one oaccassion i went to the bar i was mobbed by pensioners asking why i was staying there and that my family was taking a room for Saga guests and when were we leaving.
food was good but denia itself gets a bit boring especially if like us you couldnt enjoy the hotel and you constantly walk up and down the promenade day and night
to sum it up dont go anywhere with Bath travel and dont stay at this hotel if you are under 65 athough the staff are great

Let say before i begin that i have nothing against old people, But if your under 50 this is not the hotel for you it is full of o a p s out to enjoy themseleves with a saga holiday, I mean there is not many young people at this hotel and that is reflected in the entertainment, I,m 51 and i was the youngest person there. This is a 3 star hotel and very basic although staff very helpfull booked 1 week A/I when we arrived we were given a room with no balcony and a view over looking the road we complained and got moved to one with a balcony with pool view. Rooms are very clean and done so every day. Food is the same mix for a hotel with 3 stars but is edible but is repedative no bread at breakfast one day no butter for toast the next, the bar is alright but lacked some humour, they say do snacks during the day this consists of crisps and biscuits. The pool area is clean with a nice size pool with sunbeds the indoor pool was closed when we were there so cant comment, a nice beach across the road or in denia. Out and about not much to do although DENIA a nice old town. If u want nightlife and entertainment then i would book a holiday down the road in BENIDORM leave this hotel to the O A P S and the SAGALOUTS.

Room Tip: MAKE SURE TO ASK FOR A POOLVIEW if you want a balcony or above the 4th floor if u want a seaview

My friend and I have just returned from a week at this hotel. We were booked with Saga and had a wonderful time. There is nothing adverse to say about the hotel or Saga. This was one of the cleanest hotels I have stayed in and indeed a credit to all the maintenance and cleaning staff who were busy all day keeping everything in pristine condition. From the minute we arrived we were treated like royalty by the Saga rep and the hotel staff. We were booked on an 'all inclusive ' arrangement and we were very impressed by the high standard and variety of the food. The restaurant staff were very polite and helpful and went out of their way to make sure my friend had gluten free food. The room, number 721, looked out over the sea and the mountain. It was spotlessly clean and had a big balcony where we could sit and relax. The pool area is spacious with plenty of sun beds. Unfortunately, despite many notices saying not to reserves them, many people were out first thing in the morning placing towels on their chosen favourite spot and then going off to do other things. Denia is a pretty peaceful place with a lovely beach and fabulous marina with lots of really of expensive boats to look at. There is large market every Monday where you can buy interesting jewelry and leather hoods. We went on a visit to Simat where there is a very photogenic monastery........All in all a brilliant holiday with fantastic weather!!!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor room overlooking the pool (7th floor)

We went for two weeks and the hotel is suitable for a good average holiday. It is 10/15 mins walk from town centre. 5 mins from Marina Walkway and 5 mins from beach. The hotel is very clean and the staff are excellent, being very helpful and welcoming. Entertainment during day and evening and the Animation staff try really hard. A good range of food available. Bed was a bit hard but room was spacious and had a good sized wardrobe. Excellent shower with plenty of hot water at all times. Effective air conditioning. No balcony in our room but had extra sitting area with armchairs.

Room Tip: Rooms with Balcony are smaller than those without.
