Had a great 4days at this old mill the rooms where very modern and clean just wish we could have stayed longer the owner paul wadkin was very nice and helpful as he took us round Slovenia, places you could not imagine,we was picked up and dropped off at the airport.
We was asked every day if there was anywhere we wished to go ,but we always said we had no idea and could he just surprise us as he knew Slovenia very well and he knew the best places to eat or drink. You could always say when you would like to go out and what time and it was never a problem, it felt like we was treated very special .i would definitely recommend this place and paul as a host and tour guide.cant wage to return but for much longer the next time
We had a couple of nights at the mill while touring around Slovenia.
The Mill has obviously been a labour of love for the enigmatic Paul, who must have invested everything in it. Still not 100% finished but very impressed by our two very cheap nights near Ljutomer.
Communication beforehand was excellent we arrived after a trek across the country to be greeted by Paul, and 5 bikes waiting for us.
Route set for the following day, thanks to local knowledge, kids happily playing ping pong and with the large array of games available.
We only used one floor, but the house would be excellent for a large family of a few generations.
Property definitely delivering well above its nightly price.
We had a wonderful stay in this 100+ years old mill house which was fully renovated by Paul himself. Even though the rooms are freshly finished you can sense the history all around the house which provides a very exceptional feeling. The house is fully equipped, we got everything we needed for our stay.
We stayed only one night but I would really come back for a longer stay.
On arriving at Slomskov Mill and Mill House our first impression was how pretty, well presented atmospheric and unique this location is.
This mill is a combination of everything that is great about not staying in typical tourist hotels or indeed multinational hotel groups….it’s everything good you would expect from the personal touch of the owner who is actually a builder; a Yorkshireman from Harrogate who has taken the project on as his life’s work!
It’s obvious there has been a massive investment in money and time and indeed love and the dedication by the owner and the regeneration is an absolute credit to his professional input.
Slovenian isn’t an easy language to learn or use and as the owner is fluent he is of great assistance in translating etc.
If you visit the mill as we did you will find a modern and recently refurbished interior which is both clean and functional?
Its location is idyllic! It’s both near the river and in a small Slovenian village near the town of Ljutomer which has all the 21st century mod cons you would need.
I also guarantee that a totally serene night’s sleep!
This is the base for travelling the area especially on bicycles which can be provided by the mill so you dont need to bring your own!
The Slomskov is perfectly located to facilitate seeing and experiencing the real and to many the unknown Slovenia as everyone it seems automatically goes to the Bled area in the west of the country.
The nearby famous wine lands of the Jeruzalem hills and beyond needs to be visited to appreciate its raw beauty and countryside and the mill’s location also offers easy access to Austria, Croatia and Hungary.
All in all our visit found proved a massive success and for those who want a unique contrast from corporate hospitality then stay here, not least it’s not expensive and the continuing additions the owner is making such as electric gates, landscaping and making the mill into a functioning heritage centre it will only get better.
All in all a great little highly recommendable find!
