“Fantastic can't wait to go back next year!”
Reviewed 20 April 2011

This was a brilliant hotel wouldn't say a bad thing about it, staff are lovely, clean and brilliant for kids. It is in the middle of marmaris and iclemer, you can walk or get a bus into both towns right outside the hotel. There is always something you can eat vegatarian or not. The night life is good at the hotel as there is a nightclub in the complex and they have something on for the kids everynight. It is a lovely relaxed hotel and can't wait to go back this time next year with some of the families we met there this year!

We got back last night, and like many people reviewing this hotel, I'm straight on to Trip Advisor to tell people about the excellent time the family had. I travelled with my wife and our 3 & 5 yr olds. Initially booked to go to the Green Nature Resort, three days before we left we were phoned by holiday company to say GNR full and that the Grand Yazici Mares was the only other option. We were NOT disappointed. When we arrived they shifted us into a Suite on the top floor of the block and the sea / mountain views are stunning. Suites comprised a bedroom and a lounge where they had set up two single beds for the boys, (and a toilet /bathroom - obviously). Also 2 tv's, one in each room, one for the kids, one for us - everyone happy. The room was cleaned everyday with new towels, although being on the end of the block meant the cleaner didn't get to us until about 4pm.

The food is good, there is usually a stampede at 7pm when the doors open, so if you wish to avoid the (mad) rush go 15 minutes later. There was plenty of selection, but if you decide to have, for example, all the different meats in one meal then yes it will become repetitive. I'd say have chicken & chips one night, then beef with veg another, pasta, fish & chips, basically keep to one meat a night and you should be fine. Breakfast I just had omlettes freshly cooked by the man in the undercover seating area, but there is everything you'd need at breakfast yog, toasting machine (just make sure both knobs are pointing to 3'oclock and your toast will only need one cycle through the machine), cereals (coco pops, sugar puffs, cornflakes).

There are other restaurants included in the all-inclusive package but are al la carte (pizarria and a Turkish restuarant), you have to book at guest relation a day in advance, but that's no big deal. Go see the perfect English speaking Olga in Guest Relations and she will write your name and room number and you just turn up. If you are sensible and mix your restuarants you will not be bored with the food.

Just a word of warning - the pizarria had a habit of serving stone cold chips and veg with freshly cooked chicken at lunchtime. Saw many people hand food back and go to the main restaurant instead.

As per any hotel, by 8am towels are on sun beds around pool. What we did was go down to the 'beach' in the morning. It is not a beach as you would think, i.e. golden sand in long cresent, it is a concrete prom with loungers on and a couple of jetty's with loungers on, but you looking out at sone stunning scenary. I would say that those without families or those wanting peace and quiet went there, although we had no problems with the boys being on the 'beach' Then back to pool after lunch

They have a main pool with associated paddling pool, and a second paddling pool alongside the upper slide plunge pool (no leisure swimming permitted in the plunge pool). The blue slide is the slow one, the red/orange the fast one. Each time the slides were open a member of the animation team was at the top controlling the time between each person. There was also a lifeguard there went we were there.

Drinks selection is as you would expect. EFES beer, white and red wine, spirits, and fizz fanta, sprite, full fat coke and coke light + cocktail and mocktails for the kids.

So that's the room, the food, the scenary, the pools, the booze, just the animation team left.

If your staff are your assets, the animation team are diamonds. As a previous reviewer mention. These people really bring the children out of their shells. Our 5 yr old wanted to join in but was shy, some gentle encouragement over a few days really gave him the confidence to join in, but still within our eyesight. Painting free t-shirts by the pool, colouring and painting were all brought up from the kids club on the decking by the pool bar. This made many parents feel more relaxed that their children could have fun, but parents could see and watch their children. They all play their part. Some like Chivos (apologies I know I've spelt this wrong) (pronounced Shoe-ee) and Rose were front of house, others made sure all the music and p.a. worked, but all spoke to the children as they passed by. These people work 16 hour days, 7 days a week for the kids. The mini disco, a little short at just 30 minutes, has some kiddies classics - big fish, little fish. To the management of Grand Yazici, look after your animation team, and they will look after your customers (and your future customers). When it was time to go home, the eldest was happy to leave only after giving Rose a hug.

You are a short way from both Icmeler and Marmaris, but bus stops at the top of the driveway for both place and 2TL bus ride ( little kids go FREE if they sit on your lap, so we just offered the driver 4TL each time and they seemed happy) to either makes accessibility so easy. However the peace and quiet that offers you when you are going to sleep is great.

Just a couple of added things. I don't what it is, but when people go on holiday some leave their common sense at home. Many, many parents seemed to find it acceptable to buy their kids, and I mean from 5yr upwards, laser pointers AND then allow them to shine them in peoples eyes in the public areas of the hotel. Why o why would you give a kid something that can blind people? Please if you you wish to let your kids use a laser pointer, allow them to use it in your bedroom, and see how long you let them play with these 'toys'. To the management of Grand Yazici - this should be stopped immediately, Put up signs and walk the lobby in the evening after dinner and stop children from doing this.

You have to be over 15 to play on the refurbished (they were refurbed while we were there) pool tables.

As usual the hotel excersions are more expensive than you can find by taking a walk out side the hotel. Head to the 'beach' walking to the left as you look out at the mountain pass the dolphins centre, follow the prom and in about 5 minutes you will pass a blue diving shop on your right and a shop selling suntan lotion and other groceries on your left. Keep walking for about another 150yds or so, the prom heads to the right and just as the road goes to the left you will find Mike operating out of the Uysal Motel. Actually there is a small 'kiosk' type bench just on the prom, turn around and the Uysal Motel is there. Open early to book your same day excersion, or you can go during the day to book future outings. We did three trips with him, all reasonably price, picked up when and where stated, did the excursion as described and back about the right time. Excellent service, no complaints, and cheaper than the hotel.

So if your holiday company phones you up and tells you you are heading for the Grand Yazici Mares, my opinion is that unless you want to be in 'downtown' Marmaris, this is the best hotel to stay in in the area.

Apologies for typo's

Room Tip: Mix food choices, watch out for shining laser pens

We got back at 3.30am this morning and i wanted to write my review whilst it was fresh in my mind! I was traveling with my husband (aged 30) 2 children (aged 3 and 5) and my in laws (60-65). We all had a fantastic time. We stayed in a bungalow and my in laws in the hotel part, our bungalow had 2 big bedrooms and a bathroom aswell as a big living area with table chairs and a sofa. my in laws room was big and had a sofa and walk in wardrobe! The views from both rooms were breath taking. The animation team made our holiday so special, they were so welcoming and friendly, and fantastic with my little girls. When my children first met one of the team they asked him to do ring a ringa roses with them and then by the end of the week everytime one of the team saw my children they would stop what they were doing and come and do ring a ring a roses with them even in the dining room!! The mini disco was great and again they encouraged my shy little girl to join in. When my children wanted to leave the kids club one of the team walked back with them to ensure they got back to me safely. They made sure that all the children knew it was free ice cream time and came and collected the kids from around the pool and walked them down to the club to get their free ice cream.Rose even asked what time we were leaving and met us at reception to say goodbye to my little girls. The animation team always had a smile on their faces and got everyone involved with the different activities throughout the day and evening. The food was great with lots of choices each day although it did get a bit repeatative after a few days but that was fine as we just went to one of the other resturants and had something to eat there which again the waiters were very friendly and the food was lovley with lots of choice and looking out over the sea and the mountains was beautiful. The swimming pool and kids pool are very clean and the water slides were great. The whole resort was very well kept and clean and there is also a little park for the children to play in. We all had an amazing time and we all agreed that next time we come back to Turkey we will be staying here as it was perfect in everyway thinkable.

Room Tip: the on site shop is very expensive

We have just returned from a very nice week at the Grand Yazici Mares. As the pictures show it is located right by the sea with some stunning views across Marmaris Bay.

The hotel is kept very clean although it could do with a little bit of TLC in a few areas. It is not the 5 stars it advertises, but anyone that books a “5*” in a European tourist resort and expects the Ritz or the Dorchester is either very naive or an utter fool.

We were there for the first week of the season and half way the hotel seemed to fill up very quickly, the pool area became very crowded during the afternoons but we always managed to get a sunbed each. The Animation team get a lot of praise on this site and rightly so, they are brilliant with the kids try very hard to keep everyone entertained both by the pool during the day and throughout the hotel in the evenings but in fairness all the staff are very nice and all seemed to love the children.

The food was very good and fairly varied, the only complaints I heard were from typical Brits abroad, complaining that there was no Bacon for breakfast (in a Muslim country!) and a lack of chips with every meal, we certainly did not have to queue for food at anytime.

The onsite photographer is very good and relatively cheap when compared to a professional photographer in the UK if you want to get family portraits done by the sea in the sunshine. The hotel has its own spar which my partner enjoyed very much, it is more expensive than you would find in town but you pay for the convenience of it being next to the pool.

My one warning/bit of advice would be to make sure of you check the type of room you are booking, both type of villa’s are advertised as having 2 separate bedrooms on the website, whereby in reality only the “Family villas” have and the “standard villa” is a single room.

If you have an open mind and don’t have your head firmly rammed in your own backside you will have a fantastic holiday.

We were booked into the Green Nature Hotel but on arrival were told they were full. We were transferred to the Grand Yazici Mares (both supposedly 5 stars). The Grand Yazici is a bit more expensive and was only half full so was probably better in that it was less crowded and it is right by the sea. However there was no indoor pool at the Grand and the outdoor one was cold - but we braved it.
It's not 5 star but there aren't any true 5 star hotels in Marmaris. It was a bit worn around the edges but the staff were very friendly and the food was quite good. We had two rooms. The air conditioning did not work in either - but it was fairly cool weather. The room safes and the mini bars did not work but we got them to fix them. The only restaurants open were the main one (buffet style) and a Pizzeria that was a lot less inviting for a main meal but was a great place for an afternoon snack. It's one of the better hotels in Marmaris but don't be too fussy.
After here we went to the HIlton in Sarigerme - an amazing true 5 star that put this hotel in the shade.

After moving from the Elegance hotel due to renovation work - what a god send.
The room that we had was ok - a bit tired with the decor but the room was a standard room and the sea view made up for it.
The food was very good - unfortunately we did not realise that it was a school holiday so there were queues to get to the food!
The animation team were top notch - Engio was a star in keeping everyone busy and was very welcoming ( at a cost of 10 lira ! ). But no seriously they were brilliant and kept everyone's spirit high
The location of the hotel was great as it was on the beach front and at a cost of only 2 liras each transport to Marmaris centre or Icmeler was very cheap

Hotel very good; good location, food, service, friendly staff, value. Flight times and cramped seating were tortuous. Flew with Thomas Cook. I'm not outsize and I was very uncomfortable for 4 hours. Also being forced to vacate room 8 hours before transfer which was then 4 hours before flight was not pleasant. But otherwise an enjoyable holiday.

Room Tip: Swim in the sea.
