We have just returned from a fabulous week at the Mares Hotel. Although we arrived at 4am we sat on the balcony with a bottle of wine, heard the 'call to prayer' and watched the sun rise cover the bay. We knew the room had limited sea views but this meant we were at the end of a corridor and no sun on the balcony - this meant the room was quiet and cool. Perfect!

The rooms were cleaned daily and fresh towels each day. Plenty water and toilet roll.

The choice of food in the main hotel is excellent and we ventured to the pizzeria and Turkish restaurant - both fantastic.

The free booze is all perfectly acceptable and served by lovely, friendly staff. Try an 'orange' cocktail...

The pool and beach were quiet but guessing this was due to the early season. The guys working poolside organising games etc were very entertaining.

Shopping in ichmelar and marmaris was good fun - catch a taxi boat back to the hotel.

Biggest treat was the hotel spa - find Jesus, he is a treasure. We went for a Turkish bath, foam massage, full body and facial. Pure heaven and the gentlemen (you can choose) were very respectful.

Perfect holiday.

Room Tip: 1152 was on the far end of a corridor so no passing trade.

Having never been to Turkey before and then reading all the varied reviews about the Mares Hotel, I did not have a great image in my head especially with 4 teenagers coming as well! However all I can say is, we had a great time.
HOTEL - Beautiful views over the bay, great location, lots of places to sit or sun bathe, very spacey in the main part of the hotel, all Staff were helpful and friendly, our rooms were more than adequate and having a fridge was a real bonus, towels and bedding were regularly changed by a lovely chambermaid. Tea, coffee, water and alcohol available all day!
FOOD - There really is something for everyone and having the choice of different venues within the Mares is something we have not come across before, you could be eating all day! We had a vegetarian with us and it was quite difficult to find something for her apart from salad and rice every night.
TRIPS - Ozan, look out for this man in the Hotel, he was brilliant, we booked 8 trips through him and all were a success, he has done his homework and wants you to have a good time. Any problems with late pick up text him and within 5 min it is sorted, what more you could ask for?

Walking into Marmaris takes about 40mins. It's a worth a trip in at night to have a drink or two looking out over the marina. This was a good time to visit Marmaris as it was not quite ready for the season, which suits us.

They have a great local bus service which costs 90p from wherever you get on.

All the Locals we came across, were all great fun and very friendly.

Our one complaint about the Hotel is the late arrival of guests (2am) and the noise in the corridors at night from all ages going back to their rooms, it felt like your door was open and people were stood in the doorway, it was that bad!

Would we go back? Yes.

When we checked in at 23:30 (warning - it is a 2hr transfer from the airport), we were given a key for a villa in the complex despite telling them we could not walk far. A man took us there in an electric buggy. The room turned out to be like a 1970s 1* type room, dusty and smelly, the bathroom was very tired with gouges out of the surfaces and thick deposits of something on the floor. We immediately complained and were taken back to reception, where we were told to come back in the morning for a better room. We said no and eventually were given a room in the main annexe with twin beds, a bathroom with a huge modern shower and a quiet balcony overlooking the pine trees at the rear. Far better and 4* standard. The room safe, WiFi and satellite TV is free, you get pool towels for a small refundable fee. Food and drink was all good, would recommend the afternoon pizza bar; bottled water is available at all times. Even the beach bar serves inclusive drinks this time of the year.Staff are very friendly and service is good. Toilets are plentiful and well kept.
Outside the hotel, drinks on boat trips and in local bars are expensive (more than London!), so watch out. The dolphinarium looked a very sad site :-(
Overall was a good holiday - the views are excellent, the sea was warm and very clear. The temperature was over 30C every day, very nice in May.

Room Tip: Don't accept one of the un-refurbished villas - they are horrible.

OUR 3RD VISIT AT THE MARES HOTEL

We are a party comprising Grandparents , Parents and children aged 12 and 14 and have recently returned from a week’s Easter break at the Mares Hotel. This was our 3rd visit and I must say we had a fabulous holiday once again. We e-mailed the hotel a couple of weeks prior to our arrival requesting the same rooms which we stayed in last year. Aylin, the Reservation Supervisor, who has dealt with our booking for our last two visits could not have been more helpful/professional and made sure that the request was granted.
We arrived at the hotel at around 5 in the morning tired and travel weary and after a speedy check-in, we retired to our rooms to find a wonderful basket of fruit in each room along with a bottle of wine and soft drinks in the fridge for the kids- a lovely touch.
As well as Aylin, we found the rest of the staff to be pleasant and extremely attentive to our every need. In particular we must mention The Guest Relations Manager, Sineb, who, despite this being her first year in the job was extremely professional and pleasant to guests .
As is usually the case in early Spring, the hotel was not too crowded and the food was of excellent quality and plentiful.
The gardens and grounds of The Mares continue to be very well maintained – all credit to the maintenance crew.
In particular, we enjoyed the variety of restaurants available within the complex in order to provide a change of venue for eating, especially if we wished to eat outside of the normal times at the main restaurant.
Our experiences at the Mares have always been positive at this time of the year but, we would only consider an early season break as we would imagine that the facilities would be very different during peak-times.
Would we go back again? Most definitely YES.

Room Tip: We prefer the main building in favour of the bungalows.

Just spent a week in this hotel and I have to say the family and I loved it! The staff were so friendly and especially good with the kids. The food was always tasty and beautifully presented and with tea and coffee on tap and a 24 hour pastry counter you can't go wrong! . The hotel was a good distance between two towns so it's nice if you want to take a walk along the water. The views are amazing and can be enjoyed on the hotels very own private jetty. The room was clean and in a good condition and the balcony was lovely for some private time away in the sun. If you like quieter hotels and cooler weather (it was 30 degrees as opposed to 40 - 50 degrees which it supposedly reaches in July/August) then I would recommend going around April/May time. All in all I can't fault this place at all and would go back in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main hotel with a sea view.
