“Great Holiday........Will be back again for sure!”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

I have never written a review in the past for any of my holiday.but experience at Grand mares made me to write this.we stayed there end of May this year. we have arrived in the hotel 12 at night. reception staff were very friendly. room we stayed in was in main building sea view. view from the room were breath taking. food was lovely plenty of choice.pool could have been bigger.
had to speak to reservation team for minor issue but they have solved the problem professionally and very quickly. reservation supervisor/chief she was excellent lady. dine in the fish restaurant by the sea is must.you need to book through guest relation team.

We travel a lot but never want to go same place twice to stay but will go back to Mares to stay again.......

Thanks

Golam

Room Tip: Please book sea view room in the main building......

Staff are her helpful. Food is lovely. Right on the sea front. Entertainment by the pool daily, family friendly. This is my 2nd visit to this hotel and I will be returning next year. Everything you need in the one complex. Transfer from airport is a little long.

We have just returned from this Hotel and on the whole had a great time. This is the first time I have written a review and it is with the intention of forewarning, in the hope other families do not experience the same negativity that we did. The incident that marred our stay here and will prevent us from returning was due to our interaction with the Hotel Assistant Manager Mr Ulas Yumartas (or something similar as I cannot decipher his handwriting). We traveled as a "family" of four My Partner myself and two children-a boy of almost 13 and a girl of 11. We chose the hotel due to location and facilities. I was confused by room descriptions before booking- options being rooms, villas, bungalows etc without too much description...I did e-mail the hotel for clarification but never received a reply..therefore booked a double Villa and hoped for the best-rather naively .On the Hotel website it described some villas as having a Double bed and a sofa bed for triple occupation (amongst several other options but nothing definitive). We were quadruple occupation therefore assumed this would be taken into account when allocating one of the many various accommodation options. I completed the express check in with ages and gender of our party on-line before travel. When we were shown to our "Villa" at 4.00am there was a double bed and in the same room a small futon/sofa bed-we explained at reception this wasn't adequate, the surly receptionist on duty basically grunted we would have to see the manager in the morning. What a delightful experience this turned out to be! I will award him 5 stars for the most insincere welcome ever experienced.I explained our dilemma politely in typical English well mannered fashion-explaining I had made a mistake and hoped he could assist us in rectifying this-his response? Pure hostility-quote"You book a cheap room and expect me to upgrade you for free?" Well "cheap"is debatable and no I never once asked for anything Free- fully expecting to pay any difference in upgrade to enhance the holiday experience. I accept I could have chosen a de-luxe option initially but as I didn't intend to spend too much time in a room I didn't think this a necessity-but expecting non-siblings to share a bed at the given ages wasn't acceptable. His proffered solution-book another twin room-to cut a long negotiation short, as the only choice offered we initially agreed-then asked the price-bearing in mind we had already purchased all inc for four and whether in one room or two the same amount of linen is used...£150 per night! That's £1050 extra for the remaining 7 days. We politely declined and thanked him for his assistance. As it happens we procured another bed from a more helpful staff member and made the most of staying out of our "dormitory room". Some will say it is our own fault for not ascertaining prior to travel the exact room provisions-but that is easier said than done..allocation appears to be hit and miss...and there were no photos on the internet that showed the Villa Interior. In addition it wasn't just the unhelpful attitude and unwillingness to compromise that I found most offensive-it was the sneering cold manner that the information was delivered. Perhaps Mr U Y should direct his hostility at the more deserving...the vacant sunbed hoggers and the wasters who prepare whole buffets at their meal tables and then walk off without touching a high portion of the acquired food-depriving others of as much choice. Or the Adults who have no manners and cannot grasp please or thank-you in their own language so how would their children learn manners?
All that said the food was better than expected with choice for everyone..the location was fabulous...the children had a wonderful time and yes I would have considered going back with more family members and prior knowledge of accommodation choice but there are many similar hotels around the Med that understand Customer Service with hopefully a more sincere "Welcome".Lastly our room attendant Hafiza was lovely-a credit to the hotel, always smiling and helpful despite hard work in difficult conditions..the management could learn from her example. If you've booked here don't worry the positives well out weigh the negatives and there are some unexpected benefits....but if you do have a problem that requires a solution make sure the assistant manager ULAS is not on duty!

We chose the Mares because we had been before and enjoyed it.We upgraded to a Family Villa as we were taking our 18 year old son and thought it would be better for him to have his own room. When we arrived and were taken to our villa it was awful it smelt fusty and was dirty and the doors were hanging off the cupboard. We unpacked and went to explore and when we got back the room was all wet we saw a cleaner who mopped it up and then we went for our dinner, got back to our room again and the flood was all through the villa we sent for someone and was told it was the air conditionining it was too old to fix so they had to turn it off.We asked for a move and did get one the next day but later found out the villas are a downgrade!!! every one we spoke to had had trouble with their rooms never going there again

Room Tip: The villa rooms get worse the further away from the hotel you get need pulling down

Upon arriving to this Hotel they had a welcome pack from the rep but no room for us. Eventually they found a Villia that was at no more than a 2 star accomodation. There was no cot as requested, so when we asked for one they bought a broken one to our room that was un safe for our small child to sleep in. The Villa was clean but very very out dated. There are lots of steep hills and steps so be warned if you have to like us push two buggies every where. The entertainment, pool bar and restaurant staff were amazing given you every opertunity to enjoy your holiday. The food in the resturants was lovelly with lots of choice but be careful of the chicken as it was not cooked at times. Ice ceams are not free, but however they are cheap and well worth the money, the guy is very good with kids and very friendly. There is no beach but planks of wood, however if you travel on the Sea taxi you can go to Trunc, where it is lovely. This brings me to the hardest point of the Holiday ' The Russians', they are very rude and pushy people. You have to get up very early to get a sun bed by 8am they are all taken and my advise to you is go late for meals as they patrol the doors before opening times. Be prepared to fight for spaces in the lift and at meals times.
A nice surrounding place with lots to do for kids, however we think we will try somewhere else next time. The hotel itself was very good and has lots of good facilities however if you are in the villas sluming it like we were try and get upgraded to the hotel.

Room Tip: Do not stay in the Villas get upgraded to the Hotel

Myself, partner and our two daughters stayed here for 2 wks at start of July. We had originally booked a Villa, however, my brother in law had arrived a few days before us and after staying in a villa for the first few days he asked to get moved and requested when we arrived we also stayed in the main hotel. So glad he did, as almost everyone we spoke to said the villas were awful...dated, smelly, and in need of major refurbishment. The hotel rooms we had on the other hand were modern, and very clean. Food: breakfast was your usual all inclusive options and ok, lunch was very good as there were four eating areas - pizzeria, 2 restaurants on the sea front and the main restaurant. We mainly ate in the pizzeria as the choice was very good...salad, soup, chips, choice of 4 pizzas and about 5 pasta dishes all of which were cooked to order. Evening in the main restaurant was also fine, always something to choose from. There was also a Fish, Turkish and Italian restaurant you could book for evening meals. Fish restaurant was delicious, the Turkish and Italian were also good. The animation team do a fantastic job of entertaining during the day and at nite, there is also a live band on in the Sultan Bar who were very good but you would get fed up listening the them every nite. All the staff we found extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel is in a fab location where you could walk into Marmaris of Icmeler towns within 15-20 mins. The grounds are spotless and the setting is just beautiful. Would I return......most definitely but would request a hotel room rather than a villa, although I think they are due for refurbishment at some point.

Room Tip: request a room in main hotel as Villas are not very good.
