Grand Yazici Club Marmaris Palace
Ranked #20 of 77 Hotels in Icmeler
Reviewed 8 August 2014

Stayed at the hotel from 22/07/14 for 14 nights fifth time in Turkey. Hotel is in a good location for families, lots of activities for all the family. The rooms are a little small and dated, and the restaurant and pools very busy and noisey. But it is very reasonably priced in a very scenic setting

All the staff we encountered were helpful polite and professional, the food was good and regularly replenished, could do with candles on the tables to keep bees and wasps away.

All areas kept very clean, pier and beach beautiful, sea warm and very clean. Life guard at beach very attentive

Good value for money for families.

We took advantage of my son finishing his GCSE's in June and got a good deal for this hotel. This was the 4th time staying at this hotel and it just gets better and better. I am not one to write reviews especially bad reviews for any of my holidays, but having read some of the ones for this Hotel, I needed to let you all know how good this hotel is.
Over the winter there have been loads of improvements all for the better, it was good before, but even better now, new shopping area, new area for massage and beauty treatments.
We have always been in a bungalow, which are all lovely, this time we were in the main hotel, again was lovely, clean, tidy, spacious, we only sleep in them. Clean towels and beds made daily with beautiful shapes made with the sheet.
We arrived in the early hours of the morning and was checked in quickly and with no issues.
It was very busy round the pool, but you could get a sun bed, but we prefer to be on the jetty, all with new sunbeds and you get the breeze.
Food at this hotel was the best it has ever been, with loads of choice for all needs. Service is brilliant and when they get to know you, your drinks are waiting on a table for you.
Entertainment is really good and all the staff are excellent, speedy is one of the best, and makes you feel really welcome, making sure your drinks are filled up before they are finished.
There are foreign people in this hotel, that dont know what a Que is, but that would not put me off coming back time and time again, just push them back, they soon get the hint.
We have just booked again for 22nd September and are now counting the days down - one brilliant hotel.

We arrived as a party of 4 adults and a 2 year old child during the very early hours of 23rd July (3am!). We had issues as soon as we arrived. Firstly, they put me and my husband with our toddler in a double bedded room in the main hotel and our friends in a room in a bungalow at the other end of the complex! Immediately we went to Reception to sort the matter (mainly because our 2 year old had no bed!) and we were rather rudely told that they were doing us a favour by keeping us close to amenities. I said distance from pools and restaurants wasn't a problem - we had legs (and a buggy!) and could walk but most important that my child had a bed and would be nice for a party of 5 to be kept close together. So off we went to switch rooms with or friends as it seemed they were given OUR room originally but even then, it wasn't suitable. A very tall 2, nearly 3 year old would NOT sleep in a portable, collapisble travel cot for 2 weeks! So we bedded down for the remaining early hours and vowed to sort it the next day. They did deliver and by 1pm, we were both in a bungalow only 2 rooms apart and my 2 year old had a bed!!! (Rooms 751 and 754)

The complex was very well spread out. For a hotel that catered for hundred of people, you didn't feel like you were on top of each other and it was a nice walk past the playground, through the pine trees towards the main hotel. There were 2 main pools, a toddler pool next to the kids club and playground with a 'mini' tube slide, a smaller pool with little islands of trees and plants that housed the wide slide that was quite popular with the kids and of course the bigger tube slide. They had various bars, an ampi-theatre, a buffet restaurant, food court, italian/turkish restaurant, spa, various shops, hairdressers, ice-rink, volleyball/basketball/tennis courts - plenty of amentities inclusing mini golf and a high ropes. The high ropes was expensive for what you got - half the price of Go-Ape but the time on it is a fraction of what Go-Ape is.
POSTIVES:
Evening entertainment - my 2 year old LOVED the shows. They were show at 10pm, at a time little ones get weary but they were 5* nevertheless, especially the 'dancing girls' and the acrobatics (Chinese were AMAZING!). Another show that deserved credit was the kids club version of the musical CATS. The children (all nationalities) ranged in ages from 4 years up to 12 and were in west-end style costumes and had obviously put a lot of effort into the 45 minute show.
Pine Bar - A lovely, quiet bar below the food court next to the promenade. We went here every evening before and after dinner. We found the bar staff polite, helpful, cheery and chatty and adored my 2 year old who 'helped' with the barrel rolling and 'pulling pints' (he didn't really - just pulled the tap to pour himself a soft drink which he called 'his beer'!)
Staff - Most of the staff were lovely. We came across the infamous Speedy (NOT THE SPA Speedy who is a pain in the bum) who tended to be by the Stone Bar and could see why he is well liked. Our housemaid (bungalow that housed apartments 751 and 754) was lovely.
Food - Despite being nauseous due to being pregnant and not eating much, the other members of my party absoultely LOVED the food.
Alcohol - get on well with the bar staff and they will certainly look after you when it comes to alcohol (and virgin cocktails for the pregnant ones!)
Location - Not in the bright lights or noise of Marmaris and only 20 minutes gentle stroll to Icmeler right on the seafront with water taxis outside. It was tranquil (despite Marmaris Park playing loud, booming music at night!)
NEGATIVES:
Wasps - We got stung. I found them a nuisance. If someone spilled a soft drink, they were there. They are not malicious but a right pain. We found eating at 8:15pm meant you could eat in peace. Any earlier and good luck!
Buffet Restaurant - Not really well equipped for the amount of guests. Everyone wanted to eat more or less at the same time and we really struggled to get a table for 5. The inside part of the restaurant was horrendously hot and the children's buffet stopped at 8pm!?!?
Slides - Only operated 11-1 and 3-5. The big slide had a lifeguard all the time but the wide blue slide didn't and it needed to. Kids being kids would slide down on their inflatables and this not only posed a risk to their safety (could smack their heads off the wall straight in front and some nearly did!) but they had absoultey no regard for younger ones using it in the proper manner. In the end, i had to go up top and supervise the kids - stopping the older ones going down too soon before the younger ones had a chance to get out of the way. please don't let your children use inflatables - an accident is waiting to happen.
Ice cream - lovely ice cream, some of the best but again only free between 1pm and 2pm. Really need to sort this as better to have it between 2pm and 5pm - snack time!!
Availability of food - food was very nice but the hours of operation meant that you were very limited in what you could have at certain times. Eg. after breakfast, there was 2 hours of 'no food' available. The food court was only open until 4pm (turkish pastry 5pm) which meant that you couldn't eat until 7pm when the buffet restaurant opened. Despite them stating that the buffet restaurant closed at 9:30, we observed some foods being taken away at 8:30pm!
Pools - Cold. Especially the relax pool. Never experienced a cold outdoor pool before.
Thomas Cook - Very good in speaking too, polite etc but on arrival we received NO INFO regarding meeting times etc for their 'presentation' and it was only by chance that we found out. We asked if there was another and was told no, it was the only one. It was inconvenient as we were in the process of sorting our room changes. I think this was a lie because according to the flight list, there were Thomad Cook guests arriving/leaving every day so they would need a welcome meeting asap - not once a week on a wednesday!
WIFI - Absoultely awful!!! Pardon teh 'french' but it really was. It was free but you had to stand in Reception to get a signal and even then it wasn't great. Many times we kept being 'booted off' because som any people trying to access it. It really was 'hit and miss' and real negative in this 'day and age of technology'.

The Spa was a nice experience. I had a facial but found the spa staff rude and a nuisance. Once I agreed to the facial and she wrote the receipt, she became cold and demanded payment there and then (we were eating ice cream in the Mystic Cafe!) and said it was cash only! They would get a lot more trade and be more popular if it wasn't for their 'cash only' policy and informing guests of payment BEFORE they committed.

As for the Russians, what Russians???? We didn't encounter many and if the yells from the ampi-theatre gave us a clue as to nationalities, the Brits were definitely more dominant in the hotel, not the Russians. Hardly any of them! The second week was a Turkish holiday so there were lots of Turks but found them very polite. if anything, I found many Brits rude. There were some having a very loud domestic argument about their sons behaviour and swearing at the top of their voices - classy!?!?!

oh and as for 'queue pushing' some Brits don't understand Buffet etiquette. At a 'station' there are usually 4/5 dishes. if 20 people are queuing for 1 particular dish and nobody for another, there is really no point waiting behind 20 people to get to a dish that nobody is standing at. THAT is not 'queue jumping', It is merely being observant and not allowing queues to get unnecessarily long. There was one British boy who decided to queue jump for onion rings (very popular). I made a point of handing the tongs to the man behind me and telling him there was a queue. He walked off in a huff but the rest of the guests in the line were pleased. I can't tolerate rude behaviur from anyone, including 12-year-old boys.

So would I return? Probably yes, but not in the near future. Too many places to see and experience and only if there was evidence that the negatives I stated were any better. It wasn't a bad hotel but certainly not the best. This was stated as 4* by Thomas Cook as is Porto Mare Hotel/residence/Eden Mare in Madeira and Porto Bay group are miles ahead of Marmaris Palace when it comes to star ratings.

we had never been to turkey before,so chose this hotel based on trip advisor reviews -
will be back next year -we all had a fantastic time!
arriving @ 5.30 am,checked in quickly and whisked with our luggage via golf buggy to our apartment, which was spacious, very clean, but a bit dated. aircon worked and had a sea view so not bothered by how old the tv and dressing table were (!)
room was tidied every day,bed made and fresh towels -on our last night, housekeeping decorated our beds with flowers, which was a nice touch.
food sources galore around the pools and bars - pizza/burgers sandwiches all made fresh in front of you,a patisserie etc all serve at various times during the day.main upper restaurant food varied every day, plenty of choice- fresh fruit, desserts and cakes on offer in a separate room as so many to choose from! if you have a late night, soup is served from midnight till 1am.all inclusive drinks decent and even included cocktails.fridges are dotted everywhere stocked with bottled water to help yourself to.
both swimming pools great, one even has a flume.if you venture out the back of the complex there is a private jetty, swim up to pontoons, artificial beach all to laze on , and peddalos are also free to use.plenty for all to do - kids club and various games etc organised by the entertaiment staff.chargable pastimes are available - boat trips, jetskis, bannana boat, tree top canopy climb etc all located near the jetty.one bizzare note - the marmaris palace has its own ice rink! great on a hot day!!
the staff here never stop - you will see cleaners sweeping up,emptying bins, gardeners busy
and bar /restaurant staff full tilt all day -they cannot do enough to help and serve- admittedly i got miffed when russian guests sat on their @rse all day had hard working people fetching them drinks and lighting their fags for them - no manners some people! no meal time scuffes tho!
the manager does rounds every day, chatting to guests,to make sure all is well - a nice touch.
the spa was good, indoor pool free to use,my daughter enjoyed her " chocolate massage" (dont ask) and my wife had a massage and turkish bath. hairdresser on site was so/so -my daughters hair braids (thought was cheap - but priced in EUROS ,not lira! )- undid themselves daily.admittedly the staff put them back in without much moaning.
a nice place to chill out with a drink was the main foyer/ reception, nice bar,air conned and rich old decore,it was great to sit and read or use the free wifi.from here you can taxi into marmaris -(30lira) ,or icmelar (20 lira) or it can be walked from the path at the back of the hotel.
as mentioned in other reviews, only pest was wasps,as the grounds are surrounded by trees, although did get stung on the foot, minor issue compared to the time we had.
its been a long time since we all had that " dont want to leave" feeling,as im usually ready for my own bed after a hol abroad - cannot wait for summer 2015!

Room Tip: garden room bungalow bigger than hotel room rooms 600 upwards have sea view.

It is a nice place to stay especially if you have kids. My husband's niblings had a fabulous time so did the adults. I didn't like much the service provided by the reception. First, they didn't explain to us the whole service available for the all inclusive package we reserved and they didn't give us towel cards the time we checked in. We only knew about the towels when I went to get some and the guy said we needed towel cards. Also, the guy at the reception was always on the phone and also picked up the phone while we spoke to him although other staff was available. But rest of thd staff are quite friendly. The use of the free watersports is also one sport a day!!!! You can't do pedal boat and kayak on same day although they did make an exception once. Kids also jumped into pool although it says no diving and no jumping but guard didn't say a thing. It's the parents responsibility as well but if they are not aware of danger then someone should tell them. At night they also had nice shows like china acrobatics and kenya acrobatics and more. Beach is not so nice as it doesn't have a sandy beach but one must descend via a few pool steps. A nice place for kids definitely!
