We checked into the Club Turban having been reassured by Thomson's rating of 5T. Let me say first of all that the hotel buildings, facilities, grounds and beach were excellent, and would have been very acceptable except for the two major let-downs - the staff and the food.

Let's start with the food. We have holidayed in Turkey before and accept continental cuisine happily, but the offerings at this hotel are poor to say the least. No cooked breakfast except eggs - no sausages(except very hot spicy ones), no mushrooms, baked beans, cooked tomatoes, hash browns, fried bread (we have always had at least some of these in Turkish hotels before). We realise that guests from other countries have to be catered for, but was it necessary for nearly three quarters of buffet space to be taken up with cheese, luncheon meat, salad, and olives at breakfast time? Evening meals were not much better, with offerings such as cabbage soup, fried Brussels sprouts, battered broccoli, lamb stew consisting mainly of bones doing little to encourage our appetite. However, perhaps we could have just about forgiven 2* food in a 5* hotel if it had not been that the service and behaviour of the staff was also 2*.
The staff in the dining room (which incidentally is far too big, and has the ambience of a large factory canteen) never appeared to speak to or acknowledge the guests in any way, being merely concerned with clearing tables onto large trolleys which they then propelled around the room pushing in front of guests who were walking around to get their food. On one night, when we were eating at a table at the outer edge of the room, we were amazed to see someone pushing around a large industrial vacuum cleaner whilst guests were dining. The bar staff were little better - no attempt to offer to get drinks, so that you had to go to the bar and wait for service where often several of them had trouble interrupting their cosy chats to have to grudgingly pour drinks. One member of bar staff was seen leaning on the front of the bar eating peanuts and picking his teeth with a cocktail stick!

Around the hotel, there were other signs of slapdash service - had to phone reception for toilet paper which took over half and hour to arrive, pile of dirty crockery left on the floor by the 5th floor lift for over 24 hours, carpet in our room frayed and torn across the entrance causing a tripping hazard. The room was spacious although dull (all walls in magnolia!) but had very little storage space, and only four hangers in each wardrobe. The safe in the room was also very difficult to use - it is set on a low shelf at the bottom of the wardrobe. I could only reach it by getting on my hands and knees and reaching at arms length.

On the plus side, Thomson's rep, Michelle, was very pleasant and helpful, and she recommended a really lovely restaurant in Marmaris when we couldn't face the "canteen" any more.

I certainly could not recommend this hotel to anyone - the worst we have stayed in during 10 years of travelling.

Just stayed here for the last 10 nights , the hotel is large in size and a little disappointing if honest , the staff are certainly not the friendliest, the food is ok reasonable choice , the restaurant is a bit regimental in its set up , the drink choice under all inclusive is limited, we had a lovely room very clean and large, overall a nice location , was just disappointed overall by the hotel in general

We spent a week in early Oct. so hotel not full to capacity, but the dining room (canteen) was a shambles, I hate to think what it would be like in high season. We had a lovely room in block B, super pool there too. Block B has it's own kitchen and dining room which was far better than the main area but half way through our stay the dining room was closed and we had to use the main one. It is huge with a great choice of food, but the tables are set in rows, the waiters look really fed up, not a very good experience at all. The grounds of the hotel are very nice and the location superb, it's such a shame this lovely hotel is completely spoiled by the canteen-like dining room. There is an a la carte restaurant near the beach, if you are staying a week you can book to go there once, well worth doing, waiter service and nice food. I totally agree with acer57's comments "feeding time at the zoo"!!! Would I go there again? NO!

My wife and I stayed here sept.23rd for one week. The location is perfect between Icmeler and Marmaris. We were situated in B block, an adults only section near the main entrance to the hotel with its own pool and dinning area (you can use all other areas in hotel ). The room was spacious and tastefully decorated through out, it had a double, single bed, fridge,tv and a beautiful 5* en suite with excellent shower, air-con did its job but not the best.

The grounds and pool area's are large and well kept with plenty of sun beds .The private beach with it's jetty are popular for sun bathing so make sure your down by 8-8.30 for the best spots. Towels are supplied each day for a refundable 5 lira each.

The bad points we found were that as the hotel was mostly Russian's most of the food was served for them, you will always find something to eat but choice can be limited at times.Dining in the main area can be a survival of the fittest with a lot of rude people barging their way around it is also very canteen..ish as so many guest's are eating at the allocated 7pm -8.30 dining time so for a more relaxing meal dine at B -block's restaurant.

Entertainment team work hard with day time activities and evening shows, but shows are in the amphitheatre which is not as relaxing as sitting at a table having a drink and shows tend to have same theme just a different name each night). and these tend to start at 9.15 which does give you a long spell of waiting if you dine early.
Entertainment then moves to the Beach bar from 10pm. this being a live band or music.
This is just our view of our week other months may attract different nationalities.
All in all you will enjoy it but a week may be long enough unless you venture out at night to Icmeler or Marmaris which are a short dolomus ride away for 2 lira (bus 100 yards from entrance and every 5 mins )

Nice room, good location hotel spoilt by awful dining area which is more canteen than restaurant. Eating here can seriously damage your health, you need to be agile of foot to avoid the ignorant, greedy and bad mannered people of a particular nationality racing around collecting mountains of food that will be left to go in the bin. While they are busy pushing and shoving to get to the food their children are left to run around unsupervised . There is a small area where adults only can dine but with the amount of guests it is not big enough. Described by Thomson as a 5T hotel eating here is far from a 5T experience. This did not stop us from having a good holiday and enjoying everything else this hotel as to offer. Would I return no, Would I recommend it others no. Even with the dining situation I would still give it a 4star rating for its rooms and grounds.

Our group of two couples have just returned from a Thomson cruise and stay holiday in Turkey and the Greek Islands, the first part of the trip was on the cruise ship Thomson Celebration and I have reported our trip on the cruise ship section. The second half of our trip was a stay at the Grand Turban Marmaris, the hotel is situated at the far end of Marmaris on the way to Icmeler away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre, the setting is first class set away in a pine forest yet at the same time boasts its own private beach with views to die for, the hotel has all the facilities you would ever need and a great area for children known as kids town, you will have to go a long way to find a hotel that covers such a expanse of land, the rooms are well maintained and clean. The food is good with a wide choice, also a selection of places to dine, the main dining room is so big you could get lost in the place, after the first night our group used the dining room at the side of the quiet pool it's the same food without the hustle and bustle of the large dining room . the entertainment was ok but I always feel it's a thankless task trying to please people from all different cultures, the late night entertainment was carried out on one of the piers and a wonderful setting is was, but the entertainment was for the younger set, one evening the adds said it was Oldies Night 70s & 80 music so qualifying for oldies we went, only to find all the music had been revamped into disco style. I have to say our group were a little concerned when we made the choice of hotel but I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.
