“Great hotel with nice staff”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

Really nice, cheerful staff here in this informal hotel with great sea views and a nice bar. Fantastic breakfast, lovely room with a fabulous sea view. We stayed a Sunday night and got a good deal too.

we stayed as a family in this hotel during the summer holidays. we had a fantastic room (master bedroom plus living room with 2 beds). it was newly furnished including the bathroom, with an amazing view from the living room window: the sea. the sea is literally on your doorstep, you just have to go down a few staircases and you're in the water.
the restaurant downstairs was good, the breakfast was great.
the only thing i feel the need to point out is the noise from the pub downstairs, but it never disturb us.
we hope to be back next year.

From the minute we walked in the door to reception, we were treated fabulously. The room was spotless, the staff were polite, caring and very friendly. Food superb. Breakfast such a choice, and the views, what can I say, such a relaxing break, really didn't want to leave. Will certainly be back. Loved the honesty box (we were honest). Thank you all for making our stay so relaxing.

Room Tip: Pay little bit extra for the Sea View - FAB.

Things I liked:
+ location - on the cliff edge overlooking The Pier
+ the food
+ my room (I didn't have a sea view but the rates reflected this)
+ the honesty box in the room - it contained a huge bar of Aero, Kettle crisps, wine... and other things to tempt
+ onsite car parking restricted to residents
+ staff.

Breakfast is served in the restaurant but one morning I was given a table in the bar area. I was able to eat my breakfast whilst looking out to sea. The music in the bar was Michael Row the Boat Ashore; very relaxing and memorable. I'd like to of had breakfast in the bar area more often.

On site car parking is restricted to about a dozen spaces and these are on a first come first served. If you arrive later in the day at busy times you may have to park off site and walk a few hundred yards. Not a problem for the able bodied, once you've found somewhere to park and worked out the one-way system. The nearest on street parking seems to be Cliff Drive.

I like The Red Lion and think that they make quite an effort to get things right. I hope to go back some day.

We are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are pleased to offer breakfast to all our guests in the lounge area as it does have an exceptionally beautiful view. The car parking is limited but we strive very hard to get everybody parked so they do not have to go off site, as you rightly point out Cromer is difficult with its one way system. Thank you again and we hope you will return some day.

We were heading to Cromer for the weekend for a wedding and a room was booked for me without my choosing so I didn't know what to expect when we got there.

When we arrived we were checked in quickly with information given about the hotel and meal times and a table was booked for us that evening in the restaurant. The hotel itself is a beautiful victorian building and as our party had about 6 or 7 rooms we had a little wander round all of the them. The nice thing about the hotel is that most if not all rooms are different which adds to it's quirkiness. Our room which was 17 was a lovely size with a partial sea view, a particular favourite was the large comfy chair infront of the window that spins around.

We ate in the restaurant that night and couldn't fault the food or the service. The pate starter was a highlight as it was lovely and rich and the sticky toffee pudding for dessert was a standout. We were never waiting too long between courses and there was always somebody around to take drinks orders. We never felt rushed and after a couple of hours wandered through to the bar. We found the prices pretty reasonable and generally what we were expecting. There was never too long a queue at the bar and were served fairly quickly most of the time.

Breakfast in the morning was great with a good choice on the menu and not just your usual full english. I would recommend the eggs benedict which always came out nice and hot and both the eggs were cooked perfectly. There was an option of toast as well as a cold buffet with a choice of juices.

There is free wifi at the hotel which also works in the bedrooms.

The hotel is in a great place for exploring Cromer and the car park at the back is particulalry handy.

Room Tip: As we were a large group we had a nose round everyones rooms and my personal two favourites were 7 w...

called in for dinner at the red lion as it seemed to be the only place to eat in Cromer after 8.30 pm.
We managed to get a table in the window over looking the sea which was lovely.
The staff were friendly and helpful
The food was very good but a bit pricey.A good choice of real ales at reasonable prices. All in all a great evening.

It is always so nice for someone to take the time to write a review, we printed this one for the staff who all work very hard. We are glad you enjoyed the real ales we source locally and try to use the micro brewers as well as the better known. We hope you will visit us again.

On 'Street View' this hotel looks like an old factory or worse, but that's because it only shows you the rear entrance to the car park. Go round the front (another beware - that's where your Sat-Nav will take you and it's a dead end) and you find a nice Victorian facade right on the sea front overlooking the pier. Perfect. Rooms are offered on a standard and superior basis, the main differences being a sea view and a bathrobe in the latter. My standard double room was spacious, modern and clean with an enormous bathroom. A minor grump - the tea making facility was inside the wardrobe, which is surely not the best place for it, Drinks and nibbles were available in the room via an honesty box system - how refreshing. The Breakfasts were excellent, with a wide choice and good coffee. We ate one dinner, which was good value - top of the range pub grub. You can also eat in the bar. Like the rest of Cromer, the bar closed at 1100, which was a bit of a surprise for a group of residents from a sports club, but never mind. I would happily go there again.

Thank you for your review, Sat Nav takes all our customers to the front of the Hotel for reasons we cannot explain most probably because of Cromer's strange one way system. The building is one of the most unattractive in Cromer and very difficult to photograph but how lucky with all the sea views. The AA insist on Tea making facilities being out of site something we do not necessarily think is either practical or right and perhaps a rule we will have to change. The bar will stay open if there are customers but we tend to be prompt so our residents are not disturbed, but are always happy to do a late bar. We hope you will come and visit us again.
