“Pleasant, friendly and comfortable Sea-Side Hotel”
Reviewed 3 September 2012

I stayed at the Sandcliffe most recently in August, although I have stayed three times previously. There's a reason that I have returned; the Sandcliffe represents quality and good value. The rooms are comfortable, all the staff are friendly and welcoming, and the cooked-to-order breakfast is the ideal start to an enjoyable day exploring Cromer and the North Norfolk coast.

The rooms are clean and spacious; some with amazing sea views of the North Sea. Free Wi-Fi is provided which is a nice touch.

This place is a real gem, located at Cromer, known as the gem of the North Norfolk Coast. Overlooking the sea the location is perfect for short or long breaks. Just 5 minutes from the town centre it is perfectly loctated to walk into town. Yet just far enough out to avoid any noise from the town centre pubs late at night (Perfect with young children) A slope nearby gives easy access to the beach. The hotel benefits from parking in front and at the rear. The breakfast was cooked to order and the full english was superb and kept us going all day! Plenty of fruits, cereal and fruit juice available too. Could not fault any aspect of the stay, perfectly clean and wonderful helpful staff. Will most definately recommend to family and friends, and we will certainly return.

Good grief... it's no wonder that British hotels have such a terrible reputation with dumps like this around. I can only think that the AA rating is based purely on the fact that it was at least clean. Starting with the frostiest welcome imaginable, it all went downhill from there. Neolithic practices such as a 8-9.30am breakfast slot and a 10am (yes, 10am!!!) checkout time reinforce the joylessness of what is ostensibly a HOLIDAY destination. The room had the number written on it in felt tip. The 'seaview' was acheived by lening out of the window. The TV remote (lovingly velcroed to the TV) did not work. A reading strip light above the bed burned the back of my head. No shampoo in the bathroom. And the soap was Holiday Inn branded, so obviously pilfered. A hateful, sinfully overpriced experience. Avoid at all costs.

Excellent position of Hotel with Room 20 with a sea view and plenty of room, good working shower with fluffy towels. We had to reschedule our booking on two occasions and when we arrived our rooms were rearranged to suit our family better and which turned out just perfect for our one night stay. Breakfast lovely and plenty choice and all staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We couldnt believe how clean everything was. We would definatly recommend this hotel.Good value for money. Not sure if i could stay in Cromer itself for too long as not much to do.

Room Tip: Room 20 excellent, good working shower, loads of room. Could have done with a bigger bed as room is...

Attracted by its location and lack of availability at the time elsewhere in Cromer, we chose this hotel for a party of 8 people (inc. 2 children), 2 X double rooms + 1 family room.
The welcoming was very frosty, even as we were parking at the rear hotel car park, a lady came out to practically tell us off for not parking at the front (only one slot left), which would have been fair enough, except that with multiple cars we wanted to stay together.
My first impression was "where is the luxury?", I think that word should be taken out of the hotel description.
Things didn't improve when two of the people in our party, over 60 and, not in great physical condition and with obvious difficulty to climb stairs were not offered the stair-lift as it's only offered to wheelchair users. Again, fair enough.
However, things got from bad to worse when after midnight, the fire alarm went off, everyone gathered in the corridors except there was no fire.
The fire alarm went off again several times over a period of about 2 hours, waking everyone up every time, again, no fire at all.
You would think a malfunctioning fire alarm would be fixed as a matter of urgency, or at least a hotel owner who cared about his/her customers would.
The second night was a carbon copy of the first, repeated fire alarms at about the same time window (half past midnight till about 2.30 am).
When checking out, we wanting to speak to the person in-charge, the deputy manager was apparently powerless to do anything other than offer a quite frankly a pathetic explanation of what happened and his words were "would you prefer a fire alarm that didn't go off at all?", we would prefer a fire alarm that works as it should!.
After admitting that the fire alarm was indeed faulty, Mr Tony (dep. Manager) was authorised to offer complaining customers 1 night stay during the Winter season, that's it; even though some of us reside in the USA and we explained that this offer was worthless to us. The owner of the hotel was conveniently unavailable to deal with customers directly; two weeks later, no replies to email.
At £85 per double room and £105 for family room per night for 2 nights (= £550), it was our worse value for money experience in the UK in a very long time.
On the plus side, the staff serving breakfast in the morning were very friendly. If you get a sea-facing room, the view is very nice.

Room Tip: If you're carrying medium to large cases, avoid the upper floors due to awkward and narrow stair...

We stayed here with our 20 month old baby for a 2 night break, the room (Room 20) was lovely, comfortable, clean, spacious and all organised with the baby cot in place. The views from our room were excellent over looking the pier and sea views. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was great with excellent choice and the high chair was already placed at our table ready for breakfast. The location is great and only a 5 minute walk into Cromer. Overall we were really pleased, a real child friendly and accommodating hotel and a lovely place to stay, we will definately be returning.

Room Tip: Room 20 had a great view, nice and spacious

The booking was easy and staff were very helpful in getting us the right room. Front of house was friendly and helpful such as helping with local bus times. Room matched our needs and was very comfortable.
Breakfast was great with helpful staff and lots of choice from cereal, fruit, toast and cooked.
Would I go again? Of course!
