“Charming and elegant!”
Reviewed 22 October 2013

We stayed for one night on 11th October and absolutely loved its faded charm and elegance! No it's not an uptight, over chic, overpriced, so trendy it hurts, boutique hotel and yes it could do with a face lift outside, but I would go again and reccommend it without hesistation. It is a beautiful old Edwardian building with so much character and amazing sea views! The staff were lovely and friendly, the breakfast was fabulous and our standard double room (room 10) was very clean, neat and tastefully decorated. I couldn't have asked for more!! There was quite a storm during the night but even though the windows rattled a little it was still warm and cosy! Bliss!

We held our wedding reception at The Cliftonville Hotel (14.09.13), with an overnight stay for ourselves and a number of our guests. We were over the moon with the quality of the food, the friendly, proffessional service and the standard of the accommodation. Many of our guests have commented about the wedding breakfast as 'outstanding', and 'the best they've ever had'. We continued our celebrations with breakfast the following morning, which was as everything else was supberb. We would definately recommend the Cliftonville to others, and we can honestly say that they helped to make our special day PERFECT! As already stated, the staff were wonderful, but a special thanks to the owner, Belinda who advised, guided, supported and hosted and big part of the day, from the day we first approached her about using the Cliftonville as a venue, to post celebration necessities (clearing up after everyone!!).

Stayed here for one night only and Im so glad it was only one night. The Hotel Inspector would have a field day - the owners really need to knuckle down and redecorate the hotel inside and out - there were heavy cracks in the ceilings throughout the hotel especially the bedroom. The colours were awful and looked very dingy. The shower was terrible - boiling hot one minute and cold the next. The hot water tap in the bathroom sink struggled to pump water out as if this room (in the Turret) had not been used in years??? The room itself was a good room though and had excellent views to the sea. Wi-fi would not work in the Turret - be warned !!! Food - although my steak was cooked to perfection, the whole plate was just overloaded ! It was far too much and there was no finesse about it whatsoever - couldnt even see the plate. The waiter said 'we would rather overfeed than underfeed' - totally wrong to be honest - it was overfacing and not what most people would want. Chips were astrocious and salad was inedible - I have no idea why it was so bad but I couldnt eat either. The starter was deep fried Brie which tasted of heavy handed pepper and over cooked together with a so called cranberry sauce which was more like a poor version of jam. Very disappointed indeed. Oh, the plates were scorching hot which mean't the fish my husband had ordered overcooked on the plate which resulted in very dry fish. I think the food needs alot of tweaking to make it look refined and classy. The food was no better than everyday cafe food so for the price charged for dinner, bed and breakfast, it failed miserably. Breakfast was ok. I did say that I wouldnt stay there again. Staff were very attentive though and couldnt do enough for you which was good. The lift cannot be used between 11pm and 7.30am which is ridiculous - there is nobody there during these hours who will hear the alarm if there is a problem - not good for those who want to stay out and come in after the doors are closed and have a room higher then the 1st floor!!! All in all, very disappointing - if for some reason we had to stay again, I would not consider eating here at all. We stayed in Hunstanton the previous day/night - what a contrast !!! I wanted to turn back had it not been that we were going to a wedding in Attleborough so thankfully, we moved on. So no, not for me/us at all - unless radical changes are made - sooner rather than later! Sorry.

Thank you for your recent review. I am so sorry you were unhappy with your stay. This room is our most popular room and is booked up year on year by regular guests. The views are spectaular. As you quite rightly say the decoration is in need of repair and we are currently undergoing a full renovation programme of the Hotel which, being an old building, requires full time care. We do tell our guests that wi fi is available in the Hotel within the bar and downstairs lounge. We are unable to provide wi fi in the rooms as we cannot install cables etc. We were very disappointed and surprised with your comments with regard to the food served in our Restaurtants as, as you can see from other reviews, the food is always praised and our guests are continually complimenting the Chef. I can only apologise that you were unhappy on this occasion. The lift is closed between the hours of 11.00 pm and 7.30 a.m. because of the Alarm. We close the lift because if something should happen the alarm would not be heard. We do have a member of staff always on site but in order to keep our guests safe we feel it is best for the lift to be closed. This is the first complaint we have had on this issue. We are sorry that you were disappointed with your stay on the North Norfolk Coast.

We have just returned from a completely relaxing 3 night stay at the welcoming Cliftonville Hotel and wanted add our recommendation for this quiet, friendly seaside Hotel. The staff were attentive, the accomodation was clean and fresh and the room spacious with unspoilt sea views. We dined in the restaurant for 2 of the 3 nights and the food was extremely well presented and the choice was varied catering for all tastes. The reception area has comfy sofas which provide a quiet and relaxing environment to read papers and enjoy a coffee. Would definately want to go back again.

My husband and I have just had the most wonderful short break at the Cliftonville Hotel. The staff were polite and approachable and the food was lovely. The room had a sea view and was reasonably priced a good size and was clean. Even though the weather was stormy the hotel was warm and cosy. I would recommend this hotel. If you enjoy good food in a friendly atmosphere you have to try this hotel. Many thanks for making our short break a relaxing time. Parking is also easy with plenty of space.

Room Tip: The Double room was a good space for a couple

We ate and drank at this hotel and enjoyed it very much. The variety of food offered is great and the prices are very reasonable. It is a nice old building with many original features. The staff are helpful and kind. Parking is easy in the hotel's own car park or in the road opposite. Well done Cliftonville. Food is available in the restaurant, bar or The Bistro. Try the Elderflower Presse for a good refreshing sparkling non alcoholic cold drink.

Room Tip: We did not stay only ate.

This was the first place my now husband took me to when we first met and we have returned time after time, even coming back for our honeymoon.
The family run hotel which welcomes dogs is wonderful at all times of the year. The staff are always welcoming and cant do enough for you. We visit several times a year and at Christmas the ambiance is fantastic with great decorations and a log fire, its like sitting in your own lounge....but with waiter service :)
Our visit last week to go to the 40's weekend in neighbouring Sheringham saw us in a newly decorated room with a wonderful sea view, bliss to wake up to!
This place serves one of the best breakfasts, all day food and has a restaurant with great grub too!!! I cant recommend this place highly enough.

Room Tip: We have never had a bad room here but the views from the corner turret rooms are fantastic.
