“Beautiful hotel and excellent service”
Reviewed 1 March 2010

My husband booked this hotel for a surprise weekend away.
We both found the hotel charming and the staff friendly and helpful. We stayed in an executive room with lovely views over the front. The room was warm, comfortable and the decor was pleasant. The room and en suite were spotlessly clean and all items in the room worked perfectly.
We ate in the restaurant for two evening meals and two breakfasts. All were perfect.
The food is of a very high standard and the chef(s) know how to cook exceptionally well. The flavours in the meals were exquisite and the food was presented beautifully.
Breakfasts were of an equal standard to the evening meals. The service was prompt and courteous at all times, even when the restaurant was very busy on the Saturday evening.

I don’t know what hotel Pinguthegreek stayed at, but it cannot have been the Cliftonville in Cromer. My wife and I have been visiting this hotel since stumbling across it 10 years ago in 2000. We have made every effort to stay there at least once a year as the atmosphere and relaxation to be found there is exactly what we look for and this place NEVER fails to deliver.

The Cliftonville has always advertised itself as “Edwardian elegance” so anyone seeking minimalism or an over modernism of décor can readily Google the word Travelodge. It is like comparing a city centre Wetherspoons club to traditional English country pub… each fulfils their role. Also, look at the review “Best customer service in Norfolk”, we could not agree more. The staff of the Cliftonville operate the business like a well oiled machine, their customer service oozes old fashioned values that blend perfectly with the ambience of an Edwardian hotel. We do not receive customer service even bordering this standard anywhere else we stay and our employment sees us travel all over this country. The staff across all age groups here can be seen year in and out and that is a great compliment to the owners and the team alike.

On the Saturday night we just stayed, there was a wedding reception with a disco in the evening… and without even trying to avoid parsimonious begrudging, there was genuinely no disturbance to our meal, our room, or our enjoyment of the hotel in any way at all.

The food in the hotel itself is fantastic. In 10 years we have never had a bad meal (or wine), nor had to wait more than a few minutes for it’s’ arrival. The beds are good, the room service to match. Look at all the other reviews here, they are so positive.

Could never recommend this place enough.

I stayed in room 43, on the top floor. In a single room with a bed that was only fit for a child under the age of ten. I am an adult. The decor appeared not to have been renovated for quite some time and the same seemed to apply to the bedding. On arrival, we were greeted by the cacophony of a pre-teen disco, for the owner's daughter. In my opinion, if the owner wishes to have a business next year, he or she needs to take a good look at his or her decor and consider carefully if it meets modern standards of hospitality. I saw my room and another double room, which had to be heated by two electric heaters. The shower was abysmal and I did not leave the hotel feeling clean. I would caution anyone considering visiting this hotel to bear in mind that the decor is outdated, room facilities basic. A further point is that the lift is not operational between the hours of 11 pm and 7.30 am, ostensibly because nobody would hear the lift alarm if anything went wrong. And if you have a keen sense of smell, you will not like the cooking odours that hit you as you enter the building, particularly should you wish to return after 11 pm, when you will need a special key to enter through the side entrance. So don't book if you like a comfortable bed, good food or if climbing three flights of stairs would be a problem.

This seafront hotel has lots of old fashioned charm and has retained its Edwardian features.
Views from the rooms are great and the food is excellent.
We love North Norfolk and its walks so it was great to be able to take our dog with us. The hotel allows dogs and caters for them well.
This was our third visit and it wont be our last!

A hotel where the staff are friendly and will do anything to help. We stayed in one of the executive rooms- overall very nice, bathroom has lots of space, the bed was comfortable- the only issue was the tv was far too small for the size of the room. The hotel itself is charming although the decor along the corridoors is abit tacky.

We had a an evening meal in the restraunt and it's one of the nicest meals i have had for a long time, £52 for 2 x three course meals, bottle of wine, 2 x pints of coke and cheese & biscuits.
Breakfast was served hot and quickly, the waitressess were always on hand and very cheerful. I would stay here again.

What a fabulous hotel. From the moment we checked in (and this was our 3rd stay there) to the moment we left we were made to feel welcome. The atmosphere and the staff are warm and friendly. The rooms comfortable and clean and everything you need provided and comfy beds and pillows which should not be taken for granted! We ate in Bolton's Bistro and my husband commented that it was the best meal he'd had in years (and he takes some pleasing!). We've booked in for New Year's Eve and consider it a home from home.
