“Highly recommend this fabulous Hotel”
Reviewed 17 September 2013

This is in a perfect location just on the edge of the town centre down a quiet street. The Virginia Court is very clean, very welcoming and all the staff are extremely pleasant and helpful making our stay a real treat.
The rooms are very comfortable, nicely decorated and offer good quality facilities. The breakfast menu caters for all tastes and it was really nice to have a cooked English Breakfast that wasn't greasy, but beautifully cooked, and the sausages.......yummy! The Hotel offer a wonderful evening meal menu which is also cooked to a high standard, and the best Crème Brulee I have ever tasted!
I took my elderly Mum for a few days break and she enjoyed it just as much as me and we would both be happy to visit again.

Room Tip: Room 24 - Above kitchen so a little noisy at times and unfortunately I could hear when the neighbour...

We spent a great week at the Virginia Court Hotel (7th-14th September).
Shaun and Martin are excellent hosts, taking the trouble to chat to their guests. They are happy to make recommendations for places to visit, not just in Cromer, but across Norfolk.
All the other staff are also friendly.
Attention to detail features highly as well - my wife used the two room cushions to provide additional pillow support. The following day a third pillow appeared on the freshly made bed!
The wi-fi service is good, despite the rooms being spread around a few nooks and crannies.
The food is very good, enhanced by generous portions at every course. Oh yes if you stay don't miss the home made jams served at breakfast!
A really good place to stay.

After a serious argument with our Sat Nav, we finally arrived at Virginia Court a good half hour later than our booking time. We fully expected to be politely turned away. Far from it. We were warmly welcomed and treated to super service and a really delicious meal. Thank you Virginia Court!

Cliff Avenue, Cromer, was a road gated for the privacy of privileged guests, to the side of the Norwich Road at Cromer, where Georgian and Victorian architecture charmingly meet the 21st. century with a gentle nod, and a wink. Shaun and Martin are hands on management,. and lead a team of enthusiastic and tireless staff.
Food is fresh, locally sourced, served from a menu of very English style of cookery, rather than 'cuisine', and a cellar which can challenge the pocket, but with reason.
A locally smoked kipper is a treat, and is worth the time needed to enjoy it at breakfast, which can otherwise be any variation of a 'full English'.Interesting. Memorable servings of crab as a starter, will tempt further exploration of crab dishes which can seldom claim their flavour, by comparison, at an evening meal served from 6.00pm.

The lounge and bar is simply comfortable, with low slung couches and armchairs in leather, where families can gather, or business discussed without the embarrassment of feeling crowded out, or the intrusion of media. Summer evenings in a mild sea breeze should be sampled in the simple but spacious garden, where cushions for the loungers are kept dry and taken from the summerhouse on request.

Rooms are comfortable, some with lead glazed windows, -but not spacious. Level access at ground floor level is available in three rooms. Wifi is free and easily accessed. The television signal in Cromer is received from Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

The care and conscientious service from staff is so much appreciated, we will always want to return to be assured of their welcome, and the enjoyment of walking to the cliff and beach from the hotel.

Room Tip: Book early, and be honest about stairs, if they do not suit you!

Location:

Set in a quiet tree lined street and within walking distance of the beach, promenade and the pier. The hotel has its own parking (free).

Welcome:

A very cordial welcome by Martin and Shaun who own and run the place with a passion. All staff are a pleasure to meet and our sincere thanks to the entire team.
The hotel information provided in the room is very well written and user friendly. We have stayed in over a 100 hotels and can say with confidence that the information provided is very good.

Rooms:

There are about 25 rooms and three are located on the ground floor. Suitable for wheel chair users.
Our room was of a fair size with adequate furniture and ample storage for a short stay. Good quality bed and bed linen (made for a very good night's sleep). The bathroom is practical and basic toiletries are provided. Good quality towels. A powerful dual shower head with plenty of hot water. Please remember to bring your own shower cap. As one has to get into the bath to have a shower a hand rail for those who are not too steady on their feet would be welcome.
Well-aired and very clean room.

Dining experience:

Breakfast was a fine experience. Fruits, juices and cereals (absolutely the BEST muesli) are buffet service and hot breakfast (vegetarians catered) is served at the table in a pleasant dining room. Do not forget to taste their home made carrot and cardamom jam - memorable! One can also buy jars of these at reception.

Dinner experience on two nights was even better (reservation necessary). We opted for the dishes of the day (as much as is possible local produces are used) and these were well-prepared, well-presented and delicious. The Cromer dressed crab served with boiled potatoes, vine tomatoes, lettuce and fruit salad (£14.00) was an absolute winner. Choice of wine is good and the Chablis we had (£27.00) was perfectly chilled. The Norfolk cheese platter served with home made oat cakes was also a favourite.

Facilities:

In addition to the free on site parking there is free wi fi (better connection on the ground floor; a little hit and miss in the room).
There is a comfortable lounge/bar area and a variety of magazines and games are available. The hotel boasts a fair-sized, pleasant, secluded garden with attractive furniture.

The whole place is clean, airy, well-styled and most welcoming. Management presence (not intrusive) ensures this place remains a gem

We were also impressed with the measures this hotel takes for recycling, towel policy, no bottled water and Fair Trade tea and coffee.

Martin and Shaun also offered many suggestions for nearby visits. Many thanks for making our stay so enjoyable.

We have just had a lovely stay at this hotel, which we found was immaculately clean, with a relaxed and relaxing atmosphere. Perfectly situated in a quiet avenue, yet near North Lodge park with access to the promenade and beach and also a stone's throw from the town centre. We had a huge, very comfortable bed in a double aspect room which was bright and light with modern décor. The staff, (including the owners!), were delightful - friendly and warm, without being intrusive, all of them attentive and giving excellent customer service. Our tariff included dinner, bed and breakfast. Dinner was fabulous, with the best pannacotta this side, or the other side of the Channel! (this from someone who has previously lived in France for 9 years and who expects excellent food as a matter of course!). Breakfast also consisted of high qualify ingredients, perfectly cooked. A very good experience all round and a successful first trip to Cromer!
