“Many happy returns to the Virginia Court Hotel”
Reviewed 1 September 2010

We stayed at this hotel last year during Cromer's Carnival Week and so much enjoyed our stay and the Carnival that we decided to return again this year. It was comforting to return and find that all the familiar staff were still there, this must say something about the hotel's management that they retain such a loyal team.

We stayed in room 2 which was above reception and the kitchens. I cannot say we were bothered by either noise from reception (this hotel does not attract noisy clientele) or the extraction fan from the kitchen, which was switched on just before breakfast and switched off long before we went to bed at about 10.30pm. The room was beautifully furnished in a boutique style and there was plenty of room in both the bedroom and the bathroom. There were generous supplies of tea, coffee, biscuits and shower requisites.

The food, as before, was outstanding, and I would say even better than before. The chef is to be congratulated on his skills. We particularly enjoyed the variety of fish dishes that were served, of particular note was the salmon with lime and chive sauce (I asked for the recipe!).

My thanks go to all the team at the Virginia Court and I congratulate Martin and Shaun on running such a successful establishment. We hope to return again and of course, we shall be recommending the hotel to friends and family.

We found this hotel last minute and they were very helpful in accommodating our needs. The room had everything you could want and was large and clean, nicely decorated and comfortable. The weather got a bit warm and the room stuffy - the staff immediately responded to our request for a portable fan which shows great customer care.
The breakfast was well sourced/cooked/presented and was delicious. The dining room is very welcoming to look at but we found it too quiet despite there being 6 other full tables, we could hear all the other conversations (think that was true of other guests too as one table reverted to speaking Welsh to circumvent eavesdropping!) as well as cutlery scraping the plates, cups clinking on saucers and other guests speaking with their mouths full of food - very off-putting. A little background music would have enhanced our experience and prevented us from having a very stilted, whispered conversation over our hurried breakfast.
The location is in a very pretty sideturning, though only about 5 minutes walk to the front, so very peaceful. We were also very glad of the large car park.

Welcoming, comfortable traditional 3-star hotel. Brilliant food. Nothing was too much trouble.

We stayed at The Virginia Court for a long weekend break. It is well situated, close to the sea front and with it's own parking.
The food is superb and the hotel has high standards throughout. Service was excellent with capable, friendly staff who went out of their way to make sure that we had a great stay - including coping perfectly with my wife's gluten-free diet.
Highly recommended.

We had to find somewhere to stay in the area to deal with a family bereavement, and as members of our family had stayed here before, we didn't hesitate to book.
That was a mistake. Our room was immediately above reception, and as there was a function on when we were there, it was rather noisy.
But that paled into insignificance when the extractor fans started in the kitchen just underneath our window. They started in the late afternoon and went on until well after 11pm both nights we were there. I fully appreciate the need to have extractors in the kitchen! However I would suggest that people are at least warned about it if they are going to have this particular room - better still use that room for something else!
On the plus side - and there was one - the public rooms are very nicely furnished and there was no problem parking.

We stayed 2 nights at the Virginia Court Hotel and had a thoroughly pleasant stay. The staff were all friendly, helpful and courteous. We don't usually have dinner in hotels but Cromer seems to be a gastronomic wasteland. The only half decent looking Italian restaurant was closed and we weren't fancying Indian, Chinese or fish & chips, which apart from dodgy pubs seemed to be the only options. We ended up eating both nights in the hotel dining room and were not disappointed. The food was quite simple but very nicely cooked and presented, using quality ingredients.(Likewise breakfast) The locally sourced steak was especially good. We were disappointed that the famous crab was not in season. The dining room and lounge areas have been recently refurbished and we found them tasteful and comfortable. Our room was immaculately clean, with modern decor although some of the furniture was a little "tired" and an armchair would have been a welcome addition. The mirror in the bathroom was too small and too high on the wall for me and some additional surface/ storage area would have been useful (not even a hook on the back of the door). Other than that, we were very comfortable.
