There's not a dish on the menu you haven't had in another Italian restaurant (although sometimes under a slightly different name) and there is neither the finesse to the dishes nor the ambiance to the premises that the finer Italian eateries have but it's one of the easiest places to return to...and by choice. They flaunt many slight variations to the veal, chicken, and fish that makes up most of the menu entrees. You eat well, with generous portions in homey comfort. The staff, usually young, is eager to please, and avoids the fashionable cliches tossed about by glib cohorts at many other restaurants. These entrees are preceded by standard Italian appetizers but done with notable care, The calamari, zuppa di clams, and eggplant rollatini shine in particular. After those appetizers and main courses, you'll probably be too full for the pedestrian desserts. That Portofino's is a BYOB is another winning feature , at least to this diner, as is the fact that they now accept credit cards
