There's not a dish on the menu you haven't had in another Italian restaurant (although sometimes under a slightly different name) and there is neither the finesse to the dishes nor the ambiance to the premises that the finer Italian eateries have but it's one of the easiest places to return to...and by choice. They flaunt many slight variations to the veal, chicken, and fish that makes up most of the menu entrees. You eat well, with generous portions in homey comfort. The staff, usually young, is eager to please, and avoids the fashionable cliches tossed about by glib cohorts at many other restaurants. These entrees are preceded by standard Italian appetizers but done with notable care, The calamari, zuppa di clams, and eggplant rollatini shine in particular. After those appetizers and main courses, you'll probably be too full for the pedestrian desserts. That Portofino's is a BYOB is another winning feature , at least to this diner, as is the fact that they now accept credit cards

It's off the beaten path a bit, but this is an outstanding restaurant. Decor is not much to look at and sometime the wait staff is a bit slow, but the food is great. The pasta dishes are very well made and the marinara sauce is wonderful, as are the meatballs. Try the Rigatoni Formaggio.

We live in Morristown and this is our family restaurant. The diners you see there are locals that know if is good food are relatively good prices.

While some reviewers on this page are apparently more concerned with the decor or landscaping, I go to a restaurant to EAT! The italian food at Portofino's is authentic and excellent, the service is great and since it is a BYOB you can have a great meal there without breaking the bank.

Why is this place ranked so low compared to others in Morristown? The other reviewers must not know what real italian tastes like.

There's nothing special about this place. If you go expecting to sit down and have pizzeria-level food, you'll be fine. But don't think this place is any more than that. Everything about this place says "not interested in details': The decor is uninspired and dated. The landscaping is overgrown and weed infested. The wait-staff is inattentive. The pizza and pasta menu seems fine. But the entrees seem to follow a repeating ingredients list that lacks much variety. The food is fresh though.
