“The best subs in town.”
Reviewed 12 October 2013

Our favorite sub shop in Morristown. Subs 10; location & atmosphere 1. Fresh ingredients, the best roll, made to your specifications. Located underneath the elevated tracks at Morristown train station at Elm & Morris; true diner-style red-laminate tables; tea & soft drinks from the cooler case. True small town urban vibe.

“Comfort Food To Go”
Reviewed 18 April 2013 via mobile

I've been going to Long John's since they opened in the late 60's. It was located down the hill from my grade school and kids could sneak out at lunchtime. Ah, the good old days of an open campus.

Long John's ain't pretty. Don't expect ambiance, decor or charm. Some might call the decor "gritty." It's just real. The food is the thing. They have about a dozen sandwiches. Don't expect fancy cheeses or breads. (You can get those at any supermarket deli.) Long John's have two "signature" sandwiches: the Belly Buster and the Long John. Both are good. They also offer a NJ specialty - the Sloppy Joe. This isn't a hot chili type of sandwich. In northern NJ a Sloppy Joe is 3 pieces of rye, Russian (or 1,000 Island) Dressing, cole slaw, swiss cheese and either turkey, roast beef or ham (or a combination of the two.) Yum. Long John's makes a good Sloppy Joe.

On the other side of Morristown is another newer, sub shop, Longfellow's. They're very similar. Maybe even better. Personally, I prefer Long John's. To me it's the real thing. I think I'm going for lunch now that I think of it!

Long John's is near the Train Station.

“Local mom and pop sub shop from yesteryear.”
Reviewed 31 October 2012

Same as its always been. Big filling delicious Jersey subs on fresh bread and all the traditional toppings. No gourmet sandwiches or panini bread here. No roasted tomatoes. Just good old salami, bologna, turkey breast and roast beef with provalone and American cheese, maybe some swiss. No ambience. There are a few hard booths, but this is really a take out spot.
