Newly refurbed! Beautifully done, lovely beer garden, really nice place to relax and have a drink. Menu is dated, boring and vastly over priced - ham,egg & chips, lasagne, pate, saus and mash, choc brownie etc etc... all done averagely and expensively! You can get the same food, done better at half the price at the Beefeater! We'll return if the menu ever livens up and offers better food. For good pub food try Sawbos Orange Tree or Harlows Dusty Miller.

After closing the place for nearly 3 months for a refurb we hoped this may improve the rather shabby interior and poor food. We went for lunch for a friends birthday a few weeks after its re opening. Beautiful plants surround the building, the interior and garden have had a fabulous makeover. Sadly the same cannot be said for the chef! Food the same poor quality. Oven chips that look like they've been sitting around for hours, stale bread used for sandwiches. Pathetic house salad. Won't be going back again.

Well where to start. Ridiculous size portions for the money. I was so embarrassed to have suggested this place for lunch today. One of my friends gammon wasn't cooked, at all, it was still oinking! Another one of my friends £11 trout and salad was literally a slither of manky dry fish and a bit of posh salad leaves. There was only one poor girl serving a packed pub. She was friendly but over stretched. I suggest they use some of the profits from the overpriced food for more staff and then they may have half a chance. The Harvest Moon is only a little way on, much better food and friendly service. If the Coach and Horses Food and service matched their decor they'd be on to a winner, sadly I won't be back to see if they get their act together.

Having been here three times since the refurb (once to see what it was like, the other two times because friends insisted) I shall not be going again. My first meal (steak) was way below average – the steak over cooked, the chips cheap frozen ones and the salad non existent. The next time I had a burger – obviously bought in and cooked from frozen, rock hard, burnt, frozen chips again and a single lettuce leaf inside the horrible bun (which constituted "salad" according to the menu). The final time I had a roast lamb Sunday dinner – two potatoes, dry, horrible lamb and a dollop of congealed sick that turned out to be cauliflower cheese. Some of the staff were very attentive, some incredibly rude and unhelpful. And really, asking three times if our food was ok (once before everyone at the table had even been served!) was unnecessary. There are many better pubs for food in Bishop's Stortford, most of which I would only consider "average" – which says something about the awful quality of the food here. While I'm being critical I would say that there are too many seats if anything, especially on the crowded outside patio.

It's exactly the sort of place that would feature on Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares – all fur coat and no knickers.

Visited the newly decorated Coach and Horse and WOW the renovation is fantastic! Service polite and friendly sometimes bordering on over-friendly which than seemed to lack being genuine/authentic level of hospitality. We decided to order the Niçoise salads, drinks were received promptly as well as taking the order. The salads were presented excellently however they promised more than they delivered , the tuna steak were overcooked dry and bland. We brought this to the attention of the waiting staff who were sadly not experienced enough to deal with the complaint. We were asked how our lunch was on two occasions and on both instances staff unable to assist. I am hoping that these teething issues will be sorted out in due course as the establishment does have the making of an excellent dining experience !
