“What a tired, shabby old dump.....”
Reviewed 7 November 2013

Having read the most recent reviews I wonder if the reviewers have been to the same building as I have? This place is in a terrible state of neglect and is in need to total refurbishment inside and out. From the outside it has peeling paint, dirty old windows and a look of complete neglect. Then inside it is a scene of peeling wallpaper, tired old woodwork, greasy old tables, years old table cloths gone creamy beige and chairs covered in grease spots, stains, wear and years of hard use. The carpet on the floor is disgraceful..just look at the parts of it near the bar where it is thick black encrusted in dirt. This is the worst kept restaurant premises that I have ever seen. I have no idea of the standard of the kitchens but the parts of the restaurant area I did see make me thoughtful.

The carvery meal was however, better than I expected, served by friendly and helpful staff and thankfully it tasted and looked alright so on that important aspect it works well enough. It is the usual stuff and neither excites nor upsets...it is a cheap dinner that does what it is intended to do..be something to eat.

We had both fruit cordial and plain water to drink but for some reason, the water tasted dreadful and much like that in a swimming pool so maybe it was a problem with the glass or less likely the water supply.

I cannot think why I would ever go back to this place again and cannot recommend it to anybody. The "good" reviews are fortunate for the owners but I think they reflect only that the cooking is not too bad.

Now my message is that I realise that running such a place these days is very hard work and no doubt financially it is a struggle. As I say, it needs a good £50,000 plus spent urgently and much more to correct the years of decay BUT, there is no excuse whatever for the state of the carpets, upholstery, tables and windows. Spend £5 in a supermarket and get some cleaning materials and just CLEAN THE PLACE! Everything I touched was sticky..a bottle of Fairy Liquid is £1 so however tight money may be, it would cost little and just a few hours good work to make a big difference..so do it or close!

I shall never return to discover if you bother to do so.

“Nice food great price”
Reviewed 15 October 2013

Been here several times now, just partner and I and also with the children.
We've only ever had a carvery so can only comment on this......meat lovely, good choice, chap always polite, basic veg (would be much better to help yourself to veg rather than have it put on plate for you) but over all nice especially for the cost hence the reason we've returned fair few times

“Great Carvery”
Reviewed 11 October 2013

We've been here a couple of times now for a Carvery with the family.
Once on a busy bank Holiday and again on a Saturday.
Lovely atmosphere, plenty of families with kids. The staff are friendly.
The carvery is great value at £4.99 Mon-Sat £8.49 on Sun/Bank Hols.
The food is what you'd expect from a pub carvery. It's traditional stuff, choice of meat, plenty of veg and roast potatoes and good gravy. It fills everybody up.
