“ABSOLUTELY LOVELY”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

We stayed for only one night after my son and fiance announced this was where they were to hold their wedding. Well , Mum had to check it out. We even got a peek of the bridal suite which is amazing.
The hotel is lovely and very comfortable. The restaurant is beautiful and the food fine dining standard. We booked a Sunday night with breakfast ( please don't miss the breakfast) as this was a very reasonable price compared to the Friday and Saturday night.
My son and his fiance joined us for a meal on the Sunday evening and we got the best table in the house. The sun was setting and the ambience and views were fabulous.
The breakfast was very nice, the whole atmosphere is very relaxing and the staff excellent.
I am really looking forward to the wedding as the professionalism showed was of a very high standard.

Room Tip: They are all lovely

Discovered The Moat House on the internet whilst seeking a place for an overnight stay on travelling home to Surrey from Scotland. The room was beautifully appointed, spacious and with a good bathroom. We ate in the restaurant and what a restaurant. The staff were very professional, efficient and friendly. The food was just first class, from the presentation to the taste. Breakfast the next morning was equally superb.
It`s a shame that this place is 2 1/2 hours fast drive away or else we would eat there every week.
A totally fabulous place and a most wonderful experience added to by quality staff in every department.

I decided to book this hotel for my girlfriend's birthday - and what a decision it was! Our stay was made perfect by the very helpful staff from arrival to checkout! We stayed in a superior double room which was fantastic. The room was a nice size with a very comfortable bed and the bathroom was big with clean and modern appliances. The welcome book was very useful and made using all the extras very easy. For dinner we chose the Gourmet menu and for what it was £45 was a bargain! Every course was served and cooked perfectly! The waiting staff where very helpful and very pleasant. It was certainly one of the best dining experiences we'd both ever had! The following morning we had ordered breakfast in bed (which as also easy to do) which was again served and cooked perfectly! Checking out was easy and to complete our stay my girlfriend even "adopted" a teddy bear named Huggie! This was a fantastic hotel which I would definitely recommend!

My husband and I were given a trip to The Moat House for their Platinum Afternoon Tea package as an anniversary gift. We had never visited before, but I have only ever heard good reports about the place and so we were both very much looking forward to it - and we were not disappointed.

We arrived a little early, but the waiter was very friendly and polite, and gave us our table number so we could have a drink in the bar while we waited and put it to our tab. We didn't have to wait long either and within a few minutes he invited us to our table in the Orangery and carried our drinks through for us.

The Orangery is delightful, very bright and beautiful presented. Our wiater, whose name was Elliot, was extremely helpful, polite, friendly and professional. He talked us through the various packages, and when we opted for the Platinum package, promtely brought our Champgane over before retuning with the wonderful selction of Twinnings loose teas. He then talked us through each individual one allowing us time to smell each one and giving us some history behind them. My husban opted for the smokey Russian Caravan, whilst I chose the Lady Grey (although I could happily have sampled each one!). Once we were settled with our pots of tea, we had a minute or two to relax before our sandwiches and cakes were brought to us. Throughout the afternoon we were neither rushed, nor did we have to wait for anything, it was perfectly paced.

The selction of sandwiches was lovely, and each one was tasty and fresh. Smoked salmon with cream cheese, tuna and cucumber, ham and mustard, beef and chutney, egg mayonnaise and cream cheese with cucumber. The cakes and scones were obivously homemade, and absolutely delicious too, victoria sponge, chocolate eclair, meringue nest with cream and fresh strawberries, and choice of three jams for the scones.

All in all we were there for almost 2 hours and had a very enjoyable afternoon. The orangery had a lovely busy atmosphere with people there who must have been for lunch and at least four other tables enjoying afternoon tea.

I would certainly recommend The Moat House for afternon tea, it might not be the cheapest place, but what you get is certainly value for money. We intend to return soon to sample their restaurant.

Please pass on our thanks to Elliot and all of the other staff for a very enjoyable anniversary treat!!

Have been before and went back again it was that good. Did the room and gourmet dinner overnight stay. The food was very well thought out and tasted amazing. There was a vast choice of wines and the sommelier recommended a great Guwurtztraminer to go with our meal. Good value deal as well.

This small (<50 guest room) property is nestled at the edge of a pleasant, rural residential district, edged by a narrow canal and including pleasant tree-lined grounds with a small pond and outdoor relaxation spots. The rooms are well-appointed and the hotel is very well maintained. My room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was modern and well equipped. Sleep quality was excellent. The on-site restaurant (reviewed separately) is an excellent find and well worth a meal during a stay. The property offers a true sense of family ownership and attention to detail. This property is very well done.

Vistied for the day and ate one of the best meals I have had in a very long time, truly outstanding! I will be going back for more, hopefully soon.
The grounds are wonderful and the hotel interior is kept to a high standard, a real gem of a hotel.
