Reviewed 14 February 2009

This is a small three star hotel set in pleasant grounds just off J13 on the M6 motorway. Some traffic noise can be heard from the M6, which is only a mile away, it's audible, but not deafening, so I wouldn't let that put you off staying here. At the back of the hotel is a canal which is scenic and ideally suited for pleasant walks when the weather is suitable. The restaurant food is excellent, in preparation, presentation and quality. It was a pleasure to dine here. The service all round could not be faulted. I would thoroughly recommend it as a one or two day relaxing stop-over.

We stayed at the Moat House as a base between Wolverhampton and Uttoxeter Racecourses,(both are about 20 mins away). The staff were very helpful and the Hotel extremely comfortable. We had a slight problem with our hot water but this was quickly rectified.
The food in the Hotel was excellent .. The restaurant certainly deserves its reviews and two rosettes, as everything was delicious!!! Would certainly recommend this Hotel to family and friends and would definately stay there again.

Stayed November 17th for just one night. It was the wifes birthday and we often do this i.e. have dinner out and stay over.

Bedroom was very nice, nothing fancy but modern and clean.

Lovely position just alongside the canal,in a nice area of Stafford.

The service that we loved was the Conservatory Restaurant. We had the Gourmet menu.
A little bit more in cost than a 3 course.2 extra very small course's to make 5 course. 1 to start, and another between main and dessert but inclusive of coffee.

The meal was excellent and I mean excellent.Certainly one of the best steaks I've had(Staffordshire Rosette) medium rare.It was delicious. The wife had a souffle of goats cheese and it too was excellent.
It was one of very few restaurants in a 4 star hotel that we've seen full,on a saturday night.
Not overly expensive £110.00 for 2 including wine.Worth a treat at times are'nt we.Waiting on staff were worth some of the money alone.

Would stay again without any question.

Stayed for 1 night between wedding and honeymoon.

Booked the 4 poster Paget Suite. Lovely room with beautiful views of the canal.

Room spacious and clean.

Food fabulous as ever in the restaurant.

We have dined in the restaurant before but never stayed overnight. We felt the stay enhanced the trip somewhat.

We had a family room which was spacious but dusty in places (TV unit etc). No mini bar despite a space for one
No hairdryer either

Food was excellent - we had dinner, breakfast and lunch

Staff all very friendly and helpful. We requested additional towels and they appeared within minutes.

Only negative they had run out of duck food which disappointed our toddler

  • Liked — Great service, large room
  • Disliked — Lots of open water outside - major child hazard

The worst weekend ever.

Friday we arrived the rooms were booked as all inclusive and were put down as room only so had to get that changed. Booked dinner in the restaurant at 9.30pm ordered 4 starters only 3 turned up and 15 minute later the other one turned up. The belly pork dinner turned up and the fat was soft and the meat was soaked in fat. Bedroom was nice and clean.

Saturday Booked a table at the resturant for 8.15pm ordered the food an hour later the starters turned up. For main I ordered steak asked for it to be blue was well done and the pepper sauce was so salty I couldn't eat it.
4 am I was woke up with people shouting outside the door. I phoned reception the porter came up and the shouting continued for about another half hour.

Sunday In the morning I complained to reception about the incident and was told I had made racist comments to the other party first and I had called the man a dog when he held the door open for me. I was then informed that the porters had convinced the asian gentlemen not to call the police out to me for making racists comments to them. I told her I was a seperate customer to the two rooms that were arguing. She then said staff can't get involved in arguements beween guests. I was extremely upset being called a racist in front of my four year old daughter when I had nothing to do with it.
Sort the staff out and get some training done.

Only good thing was your chamber maids were good very friendly and the rooms were lovely. Perhaps reception should take a leaf out of their book.

I have stayed here several times now.

The hotel is in an attractive setting. You can see it as you drive along the M6, and it is just out of a small village, next to the canal with its own lake.

Rooms are generally OK. I find the best ones are on the 1st floor, away from the M6. I stayed in 1 once where the window would not shut properly and it leaked in noise.

Building works are going on to build new additional rooms.

Staff and check in is generally fine.
Bar is nice, good service.

Breakfast has always been good, nice cooked items, sometimes service can be slow.

Quite a good choice to stop at in this part of the world.
