First is the location. Quiet and peaceful location. This hotel is not in town but about a mile away from the center on a straight and level road. There is free parking in town (near the Holiday Inn) and you can get there and back without having to drive through the mad crush of humanity and cars in the city center.

We stayed in one of the Presidential suites which I highly recommend for families. It's worth the extra cash. (Others in our group stayed in standard rooms and they were not generously spacious but otherwise about the same). Our room faced the not-so-scenic weed filled field behind the hotel, but the AC worked fine and we had a mini-fridge and microwave. The suites come with two double beds and a sofa bed and plenty of space to spread your stuff around. Lighting was adequate but we were wishing for brighter bulbs or more lamps. The WiFi was hit or miss but was free. Pets are also welcome at this hotel although there is an extra fee and reservation requirement. We did not have any trouble with noise in the hotel but our suite was on the second floor and was also the last room on the right.

The room was basic, but did not have an odor, sticky carpets or other things I would find unacceptable. The hotel DOES have a free breakfast unlike what some others have noted. It's basic, and not as much variety as you'd see at many of the other chains, but there was toast, hard boiled eggs, yogurt and cereal.

One thing the hotel does not have is an elevator. If you have trouble with stairs, request a room on the ground floor but beware that many of the ground floor rooms appeared to be smoking or pet rooms. Be sure to request what you want.

The pool and hot tub were nice even if they looked as though they had been installed in the 1980's.

The manager of the hotel is a very pleasant and helpful woman. She helped us to locate great, inexpensive and uncrowded restaurants nearby and gave us tips for getting around town and nearby attractions including directing us to the free parking in town. Don't miss out on this excellent resource while you're staying here.

Hotels fill up quickly in Keystone and the town sometimes is a bit of a tourist trap but I recommend this hotel as a great and more affordable base of operations while you're seeing the local touristy stuff for a couple of days.

Our room smelled terrible. I told desk clerk and she gave me deodorizing spray to use but it was so bad even that didn't help. Keystone hotels are expensive and fill this time of year. If things hadn't been totally full I would have demanded another room or went elsewhere, but instead we touched it out. They did have a nice hot tub and pool. The desk clerk promised they would shampoo the carpet in that room the day we left before next people arrived. Don't know if that would have improved things.

If you watched the sitcom "Cheers" and saw Norm's office you will get the picture. Two people could not pass at one time in this room. Air conditioner was loud, no breakfast and it was a high price to pay for this room. I will however say that the room was clean for what we could see because the floor was nearly completely covered with the bed and desk.

Room Tip: I don't think there are any available in this hotel based on my experience.

We stayed in a "suite" with two full size bed. Room was "rustic" and can be considered adequate. Lighting in the room was not bright. No elevator to upper floors. Complimentary continental breakfast was very sparse, with bread, bagels, and English muffins. Fruits consist of small apples, oranges and bananas. Cleanliness of the place is substandard. For the price I paid, $140, it was too pricey. However, because of its close proximity to Mt. Rushmore it can command such a price for what it provides?

The room was tiny, the chairs weren't comfortable. The bed (queen) was fine. The site we booked with said this was a two star hotel, it isn't. There are much nicer hotels in Keystone, and the Hills for the money. The breakfast offered few choices.

The rooms are tiny but clean, the bed is super-soft and crowded between walls and all the furniture is past its prime. Sound-proofing is poor, climate control is good. The smoking rooms are all downstairs and there was no smoke smell in our upstairs room.
Parking immediately outside the building is tight and limited but there are large open parking lots immediately next door and across the road. The main tourist drag is a 15 minute walk away through the old town. It was nice to be out of all that noise and tacky madness and yet still be close to the town and the Monument.
There’s a free, very basic breakfast to tide you over till you can get to somewhere else for a decent meal. Check in and check out took but moments.
I wouldn’t stay here for a long break but for an overnighter why pay more?

Room Tip: Upstairs I suppose is quieter, but there's no lift
