We were told by friends to be sure and take the kids to the Alpine Slides when in the area. They also had a ropes course and zip line attached but we did not participate.
For a family of 5 we bought enough for each person to take the ski lift up and ride the slides down twice...it was $80. Pretty pricey and only tourists would pay for this but when in Rome....
You get a view of Mount Rushmore on the way up the chairlift. I shared a slide with my small 7 year old daughter so we went pretty slow. My husband and boys went faster and really enjoyed it. It was nice to go twice because you get a feel for how fast or slow you need to go after the first slide.
There is a restaurant type area at the top which we did not visit but that may have made the price a bit more acceptable by spending more time there. However, I would guess food up there isn't cheap.
All in all, it was a fun memory to have with the kids. I just wish it wasn't so expensive for a slide!

We based ourselves in Rapid City for a week while exploring southwest South Dakota. This meant more than a few scenic drives (Badlands, Custer State Park, Devil's Tower in Wyoming) involving several hours in the car. This was a great way to add activity to the day. The ski lift ride up was peaceful and the alpine slide was fun. We did it twice. The gardens and cafe at the top actually reminded us of a similar place we'd been to in Interlachen, Switzerland several years ago. Lovely spot with a great view. Can't comment on the food as we opted out because we were craving french fries as a snack, which they don't offer.

This is a fun slide and we wish we would have bought more tickets to ride. The view from the top is amazing and it was a relaxing place to sit for a minute as well. If we had more time we would have tried the other attractions, it looked like everyone was having fun.

Our family of 6 loved our time at the Presidents' Alpine Slide. The cafe at the top offered great views of Mt Rushmore; food was mediocre. The slide was enjoyed by all from the smallest (4) to the teenagers, and even adults. Highly recommend riding the slide.

We has a great time with everyone from 4 to 62. We actually enjoyed it so much we actually did it twice. Also enjoyed the views and the facilities on the top of the hill.
