“Excellent base for Black Hills visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2008

We stayed here for five nights with our children while visiting the Black Hills area. It was a great location, within walking distance of several restaurants and close to the Alpine Slide and Wax Museum.

We stayed in a fairly large room, with two doubles and a pull-out sofa. It had a refrigerator and microwave. There was no free breakfast, but there is a little convenience store/grocery close by where you can pick up some breakfast items.

The kids enjoyed the pool, although I thought it was about five degrees too cold for my liking. The hot tub was nice.

This was just a drive by find by us. We wanted somwhere close to Mount Rushmore, and it is that. Its tucked away a little off the main road and is a pleasant looking hotel.

The room was a 2 queen room and had a small fridge, a microwave and a coffee maker in it. It was quite a spacious room and had a seat outside the room on the open walkway. The only downside to this hotel was that it's right opposite the helipad and if you want a quiet stay in your hotel room between 9am and about 8pm you are not going to find it here. The helicopters didn't bother us as we were out most of that time.

They don't have a continental breakfast here but they give you a voucher for a cheaper pancake breakfast at the grill across the road.

All in all this is a reasonably good place to stay if you want to be close to Rushmore.

My parents and I stayed in suite 134 at this upscale motel and couldn't have been happier. I later learned this was originally a franchise of the Kelly Inn, but the property was bought by an independent who did some major remodelling to the facility, adding about 40 rooms and refurbishing the old ones. It was very spacious, beautifully decorated, and had all the conveniences of home. There were two LED televisions, a gas fireplace, fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, wet bar and hairdryer. At $219 per night, this suite was a good value for three people and could've easily handled six. In San Francisco, this would have run $500–$700 p/n.

The staff was friendly. The place was clean. It also has a function room, lounge, indoor swimming pool, and laundromat. There is no restaurant on the premises, but plenty are nearby. No pets or smoking are permitted in the rooms.

Also extremely convenient to Mount Rushmore. Since we went there for the Independence Day celebrations—which occurs on July 3rd—the short drive was so much easier after waiting more than two hours in the parking lot to leave.
