“The Best Kept Secret In Mount Rushmore, Keystone, SD”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2013

We are so impressed with the quality of this little gem. Not much to look at if you don't look closely but the accommodations are extremely clean and comfortable. The Powder House Restaurant is fabulous! The food is the best we found in the surrounding area. We took the dining special with the room reservation (which we never do) and were gainfully rewarded. The abundant menu variety, meal presentation and portions, the wine selection and pricing was better than I would have ever expected. I thought the accommodations would be loud as they are located near the busy street but they were not at all. The General Manager, Ben, is a good businessman and very professional. He went above and beyond to insure our comfort. BTW, the pool was very nice, clean, and refreshing! We stay in top end hotels and have travelled extensively but Powder House was above our expectations especially considering all the options in the area. I highly recommend it!

Room Tip: Book early and get a room toward the pool area if available but if not, you will still love it!

We tried to rent a cabin but they were all full so we stayed in the motel which turned out to be great. Big, nice clean room. The swimming pool was very clean and never crowded. Overall this is a great well run place

If you are looking for a place to stay near everything, look no further. The cabins are beautiful, clean and peaceful we stayed in a single cabin #28. The property had a beautiful heated pool everything about the lodge was awesome, except for one ignorant group that did not watch their children who thought soda bottles and towels were appropriate to leave in the pool and the parents watched, sadly this type of disrespect is everywhere. The staff at Powder House were exceptional. It also has a restaurant on the property and the food was magnificent and the restaurant staff were equally impressive as the staff at the Lodge.

We stayed in one of their duplex cabins with a king bed cabin #43. Comfortable size room, make up counter, desk. Was worried when it stated shower stall only because we had our toddler with us but it was fine as it was not a small square shower but a larger rectangular shaped one. Bed was comfortable with many pillow options including feather. Heat/AC in room worked great. Cabin was clean and up to date, did not seem aged. There was another family in the cabin attached with 2 kids, but didn't even hear them until morning when they walked across the porch (good sound barrier between duplex). Pool was great and clean, slightly heated but not too much for the hot summer days. Even though they were busy, overall property was quiet. Kids loved the playground. Only had a muffin and tea in the restaurant so can't really comment on the food but the service was excellent. Everyone there was really accommodating and friendly. Will definitely stay there again if in the area. There are also some "gluten free" items on the menu best options were during lunch and dinner.

We were going to be arriving around midnight, so we called ahead and informed them of our arrival time. This was no problem and check-in was completed the next morning. Very accommodating! There were four of us in our group, one being my 93 year old grandmother, and her walker. We stayed in one of the "hotel" rooms, on the ground floor. She had no problem getting in or around the room. We found our room to be clean and comfortable. The room had 2 queen beds, mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The beds were so comfortable, not to soft or firm, just right. The towels and linens were excellent, very good quality! The only noise were heard, while in the room, besides the room air conditioner, was foot steps coming from the room above. While we did not eat at the restaurant on site, we were told they give a 10% discount on breakfast, for Powder House guests. If you need a bag of ice before heading out for the day, ask for a complimentary bag at the office. Check out was easy. If I were ever to visit the area again, I would most definitely stay here.

Room Tip: If my grandmother had not been with us, I would have asked for a room on the second floor.

We stayed in cabin 56 from June 28th - July 2nd. We had a GREAT time here and very much enjoyed our stay. The cabin was clean and spacious enough for 2 adults and our big black lab. The staff was VERY friendly and are very accomodating. In addition, the onsite restaurant makes things even more convenient. The food is excellent. Great staff and great service. I'd definitely recommend this place to others visiting the Black Hills and hope to return someday. You will not be disappointed.

When traveling West, we made a stop in Keystone. Using our trusty TripAdvisor App, we found the Powder House Lodge. It was adorable. We staying in a private one-room cabin and our friends stayed in the cabin next door. Although we did have a view of the road, rather than the woods, it was a great find. The staff were accommodating and the rooms were quite clean and well decorated, with nice linens and adorable woodsy decor. The next morning we had an amazing breakfast in the lodge diner and were well pleased with our meals. Upon leaving we drove a very short distance to Rushmore. This was a great find!! I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for the most secluded cabin available and take a short morning walk along one of the trails. Th...
