If you are considering this hotel, you'd be better off choosing one of the much nicer, slightly more expensive hotels in the area. This is such a cute little town, we saw much more charming accommodations as we drive through the next morning.
We chose this hotel because of the price and it's proximity to Mt. Rushmore. We arrived late, about 10pm, after the lighting ceremony at Mt. Rushmore. When we opened the door to the room, we were overpowered by a strong cigarette smell. I immediately called the front desk to see if there had been some mistake, as we are not smokers. She said that her computer showed we had booked a smoking room, and that there were no other rooms to move us to. I went back down to the front desk, and asked for some air freshener. She was happy to supply, but only had a nearly empty bottle of smoke neutralizer which didn't help much. We ended up opening the coffee packets in the room and placing them in front of the air conditioner to try and help with the smell. None of us slept well, and all of our belongings smelled like cigarette smoke the next morning when we checked out. Blech.
This is a motel-type building, no interior corridors. The breakfast room was tiny and had very limited selections - no waffle maker.More
