“Pay extra and have a 3rd floor room with balcony!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

The staff were very helpful and there is 24 hour coffee in the reception area. Nice touch in our room was a coffee thermos pot that we could fill with coffee and drink on the balcony. Balcony has a view of Mount Rushmore - take binoculars for a better view. We were unaware that there was an evening program starting at 9pm at the monument before the lighting ceremony at 9:30pm, so we just sat on the balcony and relaxed. Our room had 2 queen beds, ceiling fan, microwave and fridge. As kids stay free in the hotel, the pool can get crazy busy and we were awakened around 11pm with kids running down the corridor and yelling. When we arrived and checked into our room there was no facial tissue in either of the holders, so I called reception and within 5 minutes max the person who checked us in showed up with a box. What great service!!!!

While we were staying the entire town of Keystone lost power so the AC and lighting was out. I am so glad we could open the door to the balcony to get fresh, cool air. Worked to our advantage as the power came back on around 6am so we showered, had a quick pot of coffee and a breakfast bar and got up to Mount Rushmore early. So peaceful and we could look around and take our time viewing without all the crowds we had been warned about!

Room Tip: Third floor with a balcony without a doubt!

After driving for several hours we checked into Presidents view resort. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. In fact they were overly helpful, which was a nice surprise! Getting to our room I was so disappointed in the size. We had a two queen room and both beds were up against the walls with a small open area between the beds. My husband and I had to sleep in separate beds to keep from having to crawl over each other to get out. The rooms need to be updated, so outdated! No toiletries were supplied in the bathroom but adequate towels were supplied. On the positive side our room was clean and the bed comfortable. I would choose a different place if returning to the area. Also parking was atrocious.....

Website for hotel only shows one type of room available when you book. I called and asked if all the rooms had a balcony with a view since the picture didn't look like it. Was told all the rooms had a balcony with view of Rushmore. NOT TRUE. Only 3rd floor has balcony and view. Room smelled like mildew and beds are NOT queen beds, they are full size. Wife and I had to sleep in separate beds as they are against the wall so you have to crawl over the other person to get out to go to the bathroom. Website said queen beds. Coffee was not ready until about 8 a.m. at front desk and nobody there until then. I do not recommend this hotel unless you get a 3rd floor room. I do not know the rate for the 3rd floor rooms. Guy got stuck in elevator while we were there and elevators were out of service. Don't know how the other hotels in Keystone are, but I won't be going back to this one if I ever make the trip there again. I do recommend Keystone as the shop owners were great and the breakfast buffet downtown was excellent!

Room Tip: Get a 3rd floor room if you want to see Rushmore from room.

The rooms at this hotel are clean but small. Works well for a couple, but if you had kids, you may want a bigger room.
One drawback is the driveway and parking. The driveway in goes at a steep incline and then turns sharply to the left for registration at the top. Not bad in a car, but tougher on a motorcycle, or when walking back home from being downtown. Parking is all at a slant except for those behind the building for the third floor rooms which is flat.
It is convenient to restaurants and other stores.
The wifi is limited if you have a room further away from the office.
By the way, you will only see part of Washington's head, and only at night.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with good wifi service.

When we arrived at the hotel, and entered our room, we were met by a horrible smell. The room was very small. We had two queens, but in order to fit them in the room, they had both beds against the walls. Then my children and I went to hook up the the internet. No internet. We talked to the front desk multiple times and they were 'fixing' it. When we checked out the next morning, they were still fixing it.

This by far was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at. I would highly recommend you find another place to stay.

Motel was clean, however the room was barely bigger than the two beds, and the sink was located in the bathroom- difficult to get ready if a family. Parking was difficult to maneuver but close to shopping!

This was our second visit here . From the first visit I knew it was clean and I didn't want to have to hunt around for a room . It gives me a feeling of a time share presentation at check in . Their sign advertises rooms from $49 single and probably there is only one available . The girl at the front desk was fabulous . She was very friendly and had a terrific smile . We all have accents also , but hers was so cute we couldn't concentrate on what she was saying . We felt sorry for her because she seemed to be doing all the work and the other employees were standing around .
Their M.O. is to offer higher rates and then work down in price . $189 for 2 beds and view of Rushmore . From the parking area you can barely make out George Washington and Jefferson . Plus the lights are turned off at 11 , so spending more on the Rushmore view isn't worth it . Next offer was $159 for same room without the view . We said we only needed a basic room and got one for $99 .
The room is clean but crowded with not much room to place your luggage . Space between beds is very limited . Minimal TV channels and wifi for our room was spotty to non existent even though we were close to the lobby . Both vending machines I tried didn't work . No breakfast is available .
This property is part of a group of at least 2 others . One of the other places we stayed at in the past and had the same experiences .
