“Great Location and excellent staff”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

My wife and I used the hotel as a base to explore the wonderful sights in the Black Hills. We spent 7 nights at this hotel and the staff was very accommodating and allowed plenty of parking spaces for a group we were travelling with.

We used the hotel as a gathering place for breakfast and again in the evening to relax.

Very good and would stay there again in future trips to the Black hills.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the backside of the hotel to view the scenery. Backside is away from the road also.

Good location for seeing the SD sights. A short drive to downtown Keystone. Fine dinner choices close by. My wife and I enjoyed our six night stay. We found the hotel and staff comfortable and accommodating. The morning breakfasts were a convenient way to start each day. We too were there during the Cobra car event. I found the car folks to be very adult and respectful of the other guests.

I was there for the small classic car enthusiast gathering aforementioned, and the hotel staff was gratefully accommodating for our small group of 12 couples in which we reserved our stay 6 months in advance. Due to these 50 year old automotive relics requiring to be trailered, the vehicles could not be safely parked on the steep hill and the staff suggested the small, level part of the lot for both safety, and as to not bother the other patrons around them. They coned off a small section of the upper lot for that purpose.

However, there were a few very rude guests staying at the hotel who use the term "reving their engines" to describe motorcycles and cars entering and exiting the lot to make their way up the steep hill on the highway in front of the hotel. They complained at 4pm in the afternoon (!) when everyone is normally out hustling and bustling in this well known tourist area. I can only assume they were trying to listen to MSNBC's "noise" during that time. Other complainers were apparently biased against white, elderly, successful people who drove cars by calling names as they walked by in their tightly fitted bicycling outfits and foam helmets scowling in utter disgust with the fossil burning devices before their eyes.

While most of the hotel patrons enjoyed the camaraderie of everyone in the lot as the elderly car guys gave out rides to the kids, we are grateful that the hotel did not go too far out of their way to appease the very few people who were unrealistic in their ridiculous complaints, although the hotel management did tell us to help them out by reducing traffic, which we eagerly did for them without hesitation. And for the record, no handicapped spaces were used other than by a few other hotel patrons who clearly did not need a handicapped space as much as they could have used a years membership to Jenny Craig.

All in all, the hotel was GREAT, the staff GREAT, and the location was GREAT!!!!

Room Tip: To avoid noise from the road, just ask for a room facing the backside of the hotel. Nice and quiet!

My wife and I stayed 8 nights at the property and enjoyed the location. Very clean, great beds and very quiet at night, never heard a thing. Great location to visit all the sites in the area, Crazy Horse, Custer national park, Mount Rushmore, mountain drives. Staff was very nice and handled things very professionally. Breakfast was good and will stay here again.

A dingy hotel with a very disinterested staff other than the general manager and one night manager. The breakfast was of poor quality, eggs and potatoes were served lukewarm to cold. Our room was lees than clean. Visible mildew in the shower, and it just didn't smell the greatest. Everything in the hotel smelled musty, and it looked like it had seen better days.

Greetings. Thank you for taking time offer your thoughts. I am very perplexed though, with your experience at our property. Please see the other great comments about our customer service.

Travelers' Tip: If you are in need of an early check-in, have reasonable expectations. If the
hotel is 100% full and regular check-in is 3:00PM, do not expect the
hotel to get you a room at 7 AM. Also, be polite to the hotel staff. They almost
always will do all they can to accommodate your request.

Happy Travels,

The hotel was nice and the staff friendly and helpful but we were disappointed in the "overruling" factor that a car club was allowed halfway through our visit. They were given the right to close off half the parking lot - the upper half convenient for patrons, especially handicapped. During the day they were allowed to wash and work on their cars. We came back one afternoon tired from a busy morning, wanting to get a little R and R in before we went out for the evening. The "club" were all sitting outside in lawn chairs, having their cocktails and showing off their cars, reving their engines right under people's windows. After awhile, we called the front desk and asked if they could stop but it continued :-(. All we got from the desk was sorry :-(. We chose this motel because it was "out of town" and we figured away from the hub-bub. Apparently their money was better than my four days stay worth :-(. When people came home late, they had to park almost in the road because of the "club's" cars and trailers. If a motel is going to cater to a group such as this they should inform other people.....I would have chosen somewhere else !

Hotel looks great from the outside and the reception staff are exceptional. We had a lovely big room, the beds were comfortable, the furniture in good condition and it was kept clean by the housekeeping staff. However, the rooms could do with some TLC. The television was an old fashioned set, the bathroom shower curtain could do with being replaced, two of the four towels were grey rather than white, there was no ironing board in the room and we had to ask for the iron to be replaced as it was leaking and potentially dangerous. The A/C unit was an old model and it was difficult finding the right setting. The fridge is an older model and froze our drinks until we had got down on the floor and located the thermostat right at the very back. I would also recommend you get down early for breakfast (before 9 am) because when it’s gone, it’s gone, and that included knives one morning.
