Wenallt Guest House
Reviewed 3 January 2008

My girlfriend and I decided on a short and relaxing stay in Wales and I am happy to report this was by far to date the best experience staying in Any guest house, hotel, or bed and breakfast. It was even better than home :-) We stayed in the Blue room beautifully decorated and with amazing views from our window. The bathroom was very good with new fittings and fixtures. We were provided with comfortable dressing gowns, beautifull towels, plenty of drinks for us to drink in our room, and a lovely home made flap jack or shortcake put in your room each day, fresh orange and water was also provided in our mini drinks chiller. Everything was attended to whilst we were away. Our room was kept well stocked with clean towels, drinks etc. Breakfast was just as good with a very good selection of drinks. lots of cereals and fruit juice, water melon etc. the cooked welsh breakfast was also very good, it helped with our mammouth journey up snowdon the first day I can assure you. The bed was simply one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. A perfect end to your day in Wales whatever the weather. Wenallt guest house is a couple of mins away from portmerion village, Castle deaudraeth a nice restaurant on the portmerion estate. 25 mins or so away from llanberis through some of the most amazing scenery in the UK. oh and dont forget the weird road heading into llanberis. a road that makes you think your going downhill but when you stop your car you roll backwards ! totally weird i can assure you. A big thankyou to Sarah and Ian Hartill for making our stay in Wales the most comfortable one so far. I would recommend this guest house to anybody wanting a charming, relaxing, and comfortable time away from it all. We will be coming back here without question.

My wife and I stayed here for one night in Apr 2006. We will definitely stay longer on our next trip to Wales.

We traveled from LLANDUDNO JUNCTION to BLAENAU FFESTINIOG by train and took the FFESTINIOG RAILWAY (we sat sipping hot chocolate in a lounge coach just behind a wonderful steam loco) to PENRHYNDEUDRAETH. From our stop, it was a short walk downhill to the Wenallt, sitting high above the town and church. The house was formerly a rectory. Grey sky, black hills, flowering yellow grouse. Be careful you are not overcome by the view and miss the gate.

Wonderful welcome and settling in after a visit with the Hartill's who own the house. The only thing they might have overlooked in making us more comfortable in the upstairs room was a luggage rack. Everything else was provided in a large bedroom with seating, and a large bath. Views of the town from all windows.

From the house we walked further downhill, again watch your step, to the Griffin pub for drinks and dinner -- I had the grill with lamb, my wife had a steak -- and a few more drinks because it started to rain and we decided to wait for it to slack or stop.

Wonderful, bountiful breakfast by the front window, at a table spread with cloth. Only one other couple at breakfast during our stay. I found myself letting my eggs get cold because I just kept staring at the black mountains. Homemade jams, strong coffee, perfect eggs.

We will stay here on our next visit, and tour many of the places we did not see on our first. I will post some photos.

A delightful B&B overlooking the black mountains and the sugar loaf mountain. Trip up the winding lane from the village seems never ending, though well worth it when you arrive for the views and the welcome. Evening meals excellent, which is a good as it is a long walk to the local village pub.
