“Little Gem”
Reviewed 27 November 2013

I have eaten here four times now and each time the food has been excellent! The staff are attentive and very polite. The food is well presented and seasonal. The restaurant very comfortable with plenty of space between each table. There are no worries with car parking which is a concern in some places. Why have not more people found this little gem a hidden treasure? It is within easy access to Hay-on-Wye, why not make a weekend of it? We will most certainly be back>

My husband and I have just returned from a three night stay at this lodge. It was lovely, very relaxing, great food and the staff were friendly and attentive. The room was cosy and warm. The lodge had great character and made me feel relaxed. Would recommend this lodge and definitely return.

Mix Welsh warmth of welcome and an appropriate swirl of English respect for privacy and you get a sense of what Black Mountain Lodge can offer. The cheerfulness of Wedding Venue preparations in no way detracted from our profound need for quiet, for unfussy decor and for competent cuisine, tastefully served. - And, always an asset near Welsh mountains - a good hot bath!

Room Tip: We loved the quiet of the Barn block.

We have been twice this year already and we will go again in the future. It is an absolutely lovely hotel-a set of barn buildings renovated into lodge buildings and excellently finished rooms. We have had the 'superior' and 'deluxe' rooms and both were wonderful. Even the superior did not leave us wanting, and the deluxe room had special finishing touches like an amazing shower and jacuzzi bath. The location of the lodge is perfect for stuff to do and places to see. It also has an activities company that we have used on both occasions to go canoeing-lovely. The food available from the lodge's restaurant is faultless-a direct quote from my husband who is hard to please when it comes to food! The breakfast provided in the morning and the range and quality of the evening menu is outstanding and not what you'd expect to find from a hotel in the welsh sticks! The top service received from all staff we encountered will also be a factor in us returning to enjoy the Blackmountain Lodge.

Only spent one night and did not use restaurant except for breakfast. Room was clean and tidy with en-suite and tea and coffee making facilities. Nice biscuits. As a real ale drinker, other local pubs offered more of an attraction for evening meal. Staff were friendly. When you first enter it is hard to see where to park.
